A black man who speaks using proper english, works hard and doesnt make the racism excuse, and raises his children in a structured environment is called a sell out . There is something seriously wrong with the black community !

@GregRight, so why don't you abandon the black community and cross over into the other world where a wanna-be white, boot lickin negro like you will be well received.  Good Riddance and don't forget to take your knee pads.

No, the point is, that the ones you are criticizing don't care what you think. There's a mutual lack of respect between you and them. They consider you and your kind sell-outs and there's nothing you an do about it.  Yes, they are losers.  But so are you.  Get over it.

  3. I'm from a much older generation so i can't speak for what the current mind set is, just about what I recall from personal experience and girl talk back then. In my day, before viagra, most women didn't  indulge in sex with the idea of achieving an earth-shattering climax.  With us, sex was a process that included foreplay, sensual intimate contact with an appealing partner, and the afterglow that involved cuddling. Pillow talk was also a plus.  An orgasm was just the icing on the cake.  And since woman are capable of multiple orgasms at one time, on a good night we might be able to count on one hand what we experienced.  What we all agreed on was that although alcohol lowered our inhibitions, it could interfere with a "passionate reaction".

  4. @GregThe broken record you won't take off the turntable is deteriorating into static.  Furthermore, you are so insulated in what you consider a perfect life, that you actually believe that all problems have viable solutions and that logistics play no role in regulating human behavior. Also, although talk is cheap your words are no bargain. They are counterfeit.

Be advised that social services are an industry. What the bottom half of society does, is create employment for those who work for the agencies and charities that minister to the indigent and downtrodden - and well coiffed, beautifully manicured baby mamas. Whatever. Welfare doesn't cost the nation nearly as much as the military industrial complex nor the tax breaks corporate America benefits from.  A good conservative Republican mouth piece like you should appreciate the well-oiled coordination between the haves and the have-nots that keep this Capitalistic country running. Since you are so deep into shaming, you should focus on other areas of society that reek with white collar disgrace and corruption. But apparently your assignment is to stick to the script, and continue to hammer away at what a liability blacks are to the nation that has contributed to what many of them have become.

Your lectures and reprimands accomplish nothing. You're not telling blacks anything that we don't already know. The problems remain because we are not miracle workers. And you, in your role of a conservative lackey, are a part of the problem, not the solution.

  5. @GregGlutton for punishment that I am, I have indigestion from being subjected to the myopia of your tunnel vision which also serves as an echo chamber for the typical black conservative narrative you parrot.  Everything you lament about between the lines of your thinly-disguised white envy, is bracketed in the phrase "the black community".  In your relentless critiques you persist in equating community with class. but I'm here to challenge your rhetoric.

The types you rant about are only a portion of the "black community" and they fall under the sub-heading that sociologists categorize as the underclass, they are the people who abide in the "inner cities", a sanitized term for the "ghetto".  To you, it's as though the black middle class which represents a different lifestyle within the black community, doesn't exist.  But it does. You are not some rare paragon of virtue. There are millions of other blacks who your sordid scenarios don't describe. You're always admonishing people for not facing the truth and you need to follow your own advice. The black community is not a monolith! It is made up of different classes.

But you won't be silenced in your campaign against absentee fathers and their baby mamas, droning the same ol tired solutions full of hot air that will never solidify. You will continue to argue that this problem and what it spawns is much worse among blacks.  I, therefore, propose a cure-all for what is not just a black dilemma because what you disapprove of occurs among all ethnicities. Since males are the ones with whom the   trouble begins,  I suggest a law be passed to perform reversible vasectomies on all boy babies at birth. Sterilize them until such time as they have proven they are upstanding, gainfully-employed members of society ready for marriage, - a rite which will be preceded by an operation to reverse the vasectomy. And all will be right with the world...

Of course the odds of this happening are zilch. So just get on with your squeaky clean rubber stamp life and shut up. What you envision for the black race is not realistic. Why? Because its members are what they are and this is not a perfect world. And, personally speaking, I'd rather belong to an interesting multi-faceted species who come in all varieties and who, in spite of so much adversity, have still retained a remarkable ability to enjoy themselves, - unlike a tight-ass square like you.

@Cynique when i was kid my parents plus other elders made sure by the time i was halfway through elementary i knew all key moments of black history in the usa. I have said in this community in the past and I repeat it, no black child raised by black parents in this country from the time of the war between the states to now should had any ignorance to key black moments in history. The only reason they do is a failure of black parents, and a failure that doesn't stem from ignorance, it stems from, again, what they want. I don't know how many black people offline I heard say, they were enlightened later. but I always try to instill among black people, all of our great great grand parents knew about slavery, the usa before the war between the states, during the war, after the war. They didn't need a book, why didn't they tell their children, your great grandparents? and then if they did why didn't your great grandparents tell their children, your grandparents? and if they did, why didn't your grand parents  tell their children, your parents? Books aren't needed if people are willing to simply tell the next generation the truth. I know from many elders offline, ho defend that position. They speak of trying to not influence the child. You want the truth to influence children. That is why the truth is vital. Just cause black peoples truth in the usa isn't pretty or convenient or non violent, didn't mean it warranted being unspoken, but that is what went on in our community and the consequence of that near beyond repair. And goes to my core question about how black people think of juneteenth

@richardmurrary: I don't know what part of the country you are originally from, or how  old you are and this perhaps contributes to why I often have difficulty relating to what you say. I was born and raised in a suburb of Chicago in 1933 and grew up during the Great Depression.  My parents were a part of the first wave of the great migration of blacks coming north to seek a "better life", my father arriving in Chicago  from Kansas in 1912, and my mother from Tennessee in 1914.  Since Juneteenth was a local holiday in Texas, it's very possible this regional celebration was not a tradition where my parents were from, which is why the observance of it was not included in what they told me about my family history which was, itself, black history. Since, back then, black history per se was not taught in the local schools I attended,  I was not alone in being ignorant about this holiday until the 1960s when people from Texas moved to my hometown and just mentioned in passing the Juneteenth observance to us locals. And i might add that these Texans did not revive the tradition among themselves nor did they show any interest in establishing it as a tradition in their new location.  They also displayed no surprise upon finding out how many people weren't aware of this holiday. The obvious reason for this was that Juneteenth was not a widespread celebration among the black population for a long time. And, to be truthful, although it makes for a good anecdote, it is not particularly significant in black history in general. and the fact of the matter is, that It has just recently became popular in a nation superficially catering to blacks. So maybe you should broaden your perspective and do less generalizing when you judge black parents on this matter.

  7. Troy is correct!

Also, in proportion to their total population, more white people are on welfare than blacks. Similarly unwed pregnancies occur just as frequently among poor whites. They are the target of the conservative "pro-lifers" who want white females to keep their babies because the white population is diminishing, posing a threat to their remaining the majority. These hypocritical anti-choice people couldn't care less about black abortions.

in any case, white skin entitlement, gives a young white unwed mother a head start on her black counterpart when it comes to  improving her circumstances.

  8. Doing what i do from time to time, I logged onto this board in order to skim through the subject matter, searching for anything that  might have the potential to pique my interest. This thread snagged me, and left me rolling my eyes and shaking my head. Black men, during the course of a discussion, demanding civility and facts in the course of an exchange about politics.  An oxymoron exercise, no less. And to add insult to injury attempts were made to defend what has become the party of Donald Trump, a seditionist who one poster elevated to the rank of a respectable president whose term in office benefited black folks - rather than enabled white racists.

When it comes to policies and mission statements, people choose which ever political party they are most compatible with, and their party of choice commands their loyalty. The lines are drawn and the idea that we should tread lightly and politely around our opponents and give them the benefit of the doubt is the stuff of bull shit.  I make no excuses about hating Republicans and I don't need any factual proof to assert that the Republican party provides a haven for racists. This is what is currently the case; from the top to the bottom, from the MAGAs to the Senators who court them in order to get their vote. Except for a paltry few,  Republicans who don't support what the GOP has become have simply retreated into a spineless silence. Bottom line: the Republican party is a magnet for blatant white supremacists. It's obvious.

Democrats aka Liberals, as bumbling as they may be, do at least attempt to be inclusive in their goal of lifting others as they climb.  Right wing conservatives don't give a damn about anybody but themselves, falsely believing that they have achieved their wealth and status solely through the sweat of their brows.  In their view, any black person who doesn't make it, simply hasn't pulled themselves up by their boot straps. blah, blah, blah.

I am not a political activist nor a rabid Democrat. But I reserve the right to be repulsed by right wing conservative Republicans. I don't like them individually nor collectively.  Hating them energizes me.

  9. Sha-carri Richardson got the shaft when she was disqualified  last year for testing positive for marijuana. Glad to see she has made an impressive comeback. I love women's track. Especially the Relays.  Sistas really perform impressively in that event.  These ladies are all following in the tradition set by Flo-Jo who was the first female track star to bring style and glamour to the sport!

the reality of what is happening in Chicagoland and black cities around the US begs the following questions:

    1) What are the conditions that fuel crime among black folks?

    2) Who created the conditions that lead to crimes among black folks?

    3) How did guns and drugs get into black communities?

You're correct...institutionalized racism is very real and it answers every question.

Here I go again...blacks need to figure how destroy the system that literally has blacks folks killing themselves directly and indirectly.

@ProfDMy answer to your "begging question" is an unpopular one, - the response I've been giving for years. There are plenty of black inner city kids who exist under the same conditions as the wayward ones yet, unlike them, don't  pack guns or engage in illegal activities or join gangs. in fact, they are often the innocent victims of the bad apples. What causes this problem? The  one thing that racism doesn't play a role in; that which has almost become a right of passage among black girls: achieving the status of a "baby momma", something that is unfortunately not synonymous with being a good parent.

Yes, these divas with the long glittering nails, braided hair extension, and curled false  eyelashes can and do provide their kids with a lot of material things, but ask anyone who teaches school in the ghetto about the unruly little monsters with belligerent or negligent young single mothers. Listen to the reports about how these kids use profanity and flip gang signs and pretend that pencils are guns. I don't waste my  energy finding excuses for them. I save it to admire those who are lucky enough to survive and achieve in spite of the obstacles. Thanks to their home environment.

Lotsa of luck in solving this cultural dilemma.

  11. All you guys jolted by the sporadic incidents of mass shootings of black folks by white mental cases, have been spared the reality of what is happening in Chicagoland on a daily basis. Here, the only ones murdering black folks - and wounding and killing law enforcement officers in the course of traffic stops are black males.  Among this element, it has also become standard procedure for arguments, be they ignited by road rage or personal beefs, to be settled by gun fire. When it comes to the ongoing crimes of car jackings and robberies, they are committed by black or brown males who are all armed with guns. Gang drive-bys also contribute to the mayhem.

What easy access to guns has done is enable a significant portion of America's black male population to live and die by the trigger, and to survive off the loot of their crimes. Glamorizing black gun owners as Minute Men at the ready in case of a race war is like something out of a Spike Lee movie, starring Samuel L. Jackson. Fiction. Institutionalized racism is real and needs only an excuse to annihilate threats to its power.

  12. "Guns aren't the problem. Bullets are," is a quip attributed to Chris Rock - before Will Smith introduced him to the damage an open palm to the cheek can inflict. Duh.

And what is all this talk about a race war???  In response I have 2 words.  Stefan. Nels Can you picture these 2 black men on the same side,   following orders from the same general in a battle  to defeat the white forces?  It would be the equivalent of what happens on this board with Nels firing the duds that hamper Stefan's sharp shooting. Their foe would win in no time because the black army would be in disarray. The common foe of racism is not enough to unite blacks into a cohesive force because black right wingers and black left wingers are not on the same page.  Poles apart.  Think Candance Owens and Stacey Abrams.

The only  viable showdown between opposing forces would be a clash of ideologies because this is what is presently dividing the country.   And what birds of a feather flocking together amounts to are 2 tribes.  And what, pray tell, would we call these 2 tribes????  Hummm, let's see.  How about - Liberals and Conservatives?  Liberals and Conservatives as in Democrats and Republicans.  Which brings us full circle - as the world turns.

i don't anticipate a race war.  When America collapses, it will be a free-for-all.  And who knows? The great melting pot might simmer and give democracy another try.  But, what do i know?

Very few people seem to know or care avvut what that slogan "Make America Great Again" really means.

The thought of a pre-1950s America does not seem like the most idyllic place for ANY minorities.

No offense to those who grew up during the 1950s or prior and thought it was great.😁

@ProfDI think by now that both black and white people have figured out that "Make America Great Again" is a code phrase for returning it to the days when uppity minorities and independent women stayed in their place as second-class citizens.

Nor do I think there was ever any era in the history of this country when black folks thought life was "idyllic" except on fleeting occasions, probably during their innocent childhoods. That's my stance as a cynic.

America was supposed to be the original "brave new world", the mythical alabaster city on a hill where the down trodden from all over the globe immigrated  to pursue their dreams of a better life. It was a Republic which adopted the principles of a Democracy.  Its noble Constitution was crafted by white slave holders - who like the fork-tongued pale faces that they were, declared "all men were created equal". This revered document guaranteed free speech, the right to bear arms,  and assemble in public places.  It also emphasized the separation of Church and State. And centuries later all of this polluted swill backed up leaving this nation awash in a political swamp where alligators and snakes endanger and - skin color still matters. What was once an Empire in now on the brink of an implosion. Nice try.  Let's hear it for the good ol USA which, exercising its precious second amendment rights, gave it its best shot, and missed the mark. Maybe this hot mess will rise from its ashes, not via an eagle but like the phoenix of Native American lore.  Back to square one.

Jesse says "keep hope alive". Obama extols the "audacity of hope".  Cynique sez: "yeah, right".

  14. @Delano: I've been hearing about the rare alignment of planets you posted, and about the sight of them being visible in the dawning hours - if the sky is clear; and, so far, it hasn't been where I live. Too much interference from artificial light.  But i will continue to scan the skies.  That Mercury retrograde we just went through sure gave me fits. Everything was out of kilter in my daily routine.

Your associating events with recurring dates and times still doesn't quite resonate with me. I can't get into calculations except when it comes to music which i have been recently reminded is basically mathematical in its chord structure.   Lately I have also been experimenting with the beneficial powers of crystals and have had  some surprising success with this. I just basically want to download the universe into my consciousness. As above, so below...

Is that how you greet your family when you haven't seen them for a while????

What reality are you existing in? You have a short memory. You ain't been gone but a minute.  I argued with you as recently as last year. when  you  Mzuri and I were having a insult fest replete with visuals from you 2.   And what does how I would greet a long lost family member have to do with how I respond to you - who feared i would follow you to other discussion boards because for some reason you persist in believing i'm sweet on you. If those in power SINCERELY believed that they were superior or somehow better than those they ruled over...they wouldn't put up so many obstables in the way to keep them OUT of power.

I don't have to making up all kinds of laws to keep dogs out of power.
I don't have to design special mis-education technique to use in the media and classroom to keep dogs in a state of confusion so that they don't pose a threat to rule.

Because dogs are simply intellectually inferior.
You can just let nature take it's course and you'd naturally rule.

Not so with this system of racism that is constantly making rules and playing games to keep itself in a position of authority.

Oh puleeze. How naive can you get?  "Sincerely" is a totally inappropriate word to use in a  discussion about the dynamics of racism.  It's not like  racism is some kind of gentleman's agreement wherein unwritten rules of civility and honesty apply. Ruthlessness is at the root of racism; "no holds barred" is its motto, playing dirty its modus operandi. Racism is maintained by any means necessary.

In the big picture, winners are superior when it comes to doing what it takes to maintain their power. Losers stand around complaining about  their opponents not playing  fair.

  17. Racism remains forever the preoccupation of black Americans. As much as it has been a  bump in the road, it has also served to clear the way for black excuses . And, above all. has become  a security blanket, always there to villainize whites and assure blacks that were it not for racism, they could usurp white supremacy - and replace it with black supremacy!  Which is why  racism is as American as apple pie.  Whoever is in control, would naturally attribute this power to those holding it being  better than who could not wrest it away from them. Who's to dispute this?

And so it goes.  Justice is an abstract ideal that is never guaranteed in this impersonal indifferent world. Nor do all problems have viable solutions; just theories and opinions and fantasies. And for those waitin' on Jesus, = forget it.  Bottom line: the strong survive.

So the "what-black-folks-need to do" dialogue goes on and on and on ad infinitum... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  18. It's been my observation that certain bi-racials  are perceived as black whether they  concur with it or not.  Take the sport of basketball, for instance. There is a whole new crop of NBA and collegiate players out there who are the offspring of black hoopsters who have married white women.  The results are these giant, light-skinned specimens with  a grade of hair that ranges from nappy and spiked to close cropped and coarse.  Their female counterparts in society-at-large, wear wild bushy hair styles to frame their pale faces.  When it gets down to the nitty gritty, that black hair gene is apparently too strong to be recessive.
