Pioneer1 Posted September 28, 2024 Report Posted September 28, 2024 I hope our brother @Troy is safe and sound if he's down there in Florida. I believe Miss Helene brushed passed the Tampa area and caused a lot of flooding and power outages on her way to Northern Florida. Knowing you, you usually pack up and FLY OFF to another location when a hurricane is coming.
Pioneer1 Posted September 28, 2024 Author Report Posted September 28, 2024 Florida is one of the last states in this nation I'd want to live in. Hot and sticky most of the time. Huge pre-historic bugs and shit swarming around. Lakes and ponds all over the place. You can't dig a hole in the ground without water coming up out of the ground. Alligators and lizards crawling all over in the roads and in people's yards. Not to mention racists White Cubans and other groups who've carved out little regions of power and make it clear that they don't want anything to do with Black Americans. On top of all of that, it's just a narrow strip of land pretty much in the middle of an ocean that constantly gets hurricanes. EVERY year! ....I'm good. I'd rather stay in California than Florida....and most of yall KNOW how I feel about bruthaz living in Cali, lol.
ProfD Posted September 28, 2024 Report Posted September 28, 2024 Definitely hoping all is well with brotha @Troy living on the peninsula. Every year, Floridians have to be prepared to evacuate during hurricane season. Almost reminds me of relocation according to NF Jr. If available, home and auto insurance has to be higher than giraffe snatch. Florida is still a nice place to visit. I'd never want to live there though.

Man you better cut that "snatch" shit out.....I get horny just reading it now, lol. Make me think of all those years even back in highschool when I could have just.....ahhh....never mind, lol. Seriously, why haven't we heard from our brother since the Hurricane though???? ...and our sista @Mel Hopkins too! She lives down in the ATL, right there in the path of it. If North Carolina is getting socked up like that....imagine what's happening in Georgia. 1
ProfD Posted September 29, 2024 Report Posted September 29, 2024 It's not uncommon for some of the family to go radio silent for days and weeks and months. @Troy checks in often enough considering he keeps the lights on around here. I'm claiming he'll chime in soon. Hope all is well with everyone in the storm path and aftermath. 1

We did get high winds, and some branches and trees took a hit. I know we were at risk of flash flooding, but the creeks are a distance from my subdivision. Our water plant failed, so we have a boil order in place. And get this... Effing Bio Labs in Conyers, GA, caught fire... and these folks installed water sprinklers that respond to fires, including chemical fires, so we are at risk of chlorine poisoning tod . EPA is testing the air - and we just got a notification that our air is a "janky." Hi All!!! 4

Troy Posted October 1, 2024 Report Posted October 1, 2024 Yeah, I went off the grid for a few days attending the Melanated Campout in Cordele GA. I've been a homeowner in Tampa since 2011 and lived in West Palm Beach for almost two years. I have never been seriously impacted by a hurricane -- never even lost power (our lines are underground). Now I have been impacted by storms in New York City -- one was so severe it shut down Wall Street for days flooding subway to the ceiling and damn near wiping Far Rockaway off the map. @Pioneer1 I think Florida is a great place to live--despite our wacky governor 3

Great. Reads like you were already out of dodge. Still, thank goodness all is well on your end.
Pioneer1 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Report Posted October 5, 2024 Troy Glad to see that you're upward and mobile and doing well, lol. It seems as if the storm when NORTH of the area you lived in and it the pan-handle area of Florida and traveled through eastern Georgia on up the coast. North Carolina is still reeling from it's effects. Hundreds are still missing. This storm may actually turn out to be more deadly than Katrina Mel Yeah, I heard about that fire down there and saw clips of smoke billowing and authorities issuing all kinds of "stay in place" alerts....lol. Looked like something out of a Zombie Apocalypes movie...lol. 1

Hurricane Katrina death toll was very close to 1,400. So far, hurricane Helene has a death toll of 225 and counting. Helene still has a long way to go in order to surpasss Katrina in body count.

I was in the woods of Georgia for several days during the time of the storm and the weather was beautiful. Damage from a hurricane that far inland is unusual... It seems no one is really safe from the effects. I guess we are doomed, as we are not ġonna do anything to mitigate our impact on the environment and the resulting impact on climate change.

Well, remember that the vast majority of Katrina's death toll was NOT from the actual Hurricane itself but from the flooding in New Orleans. Katrina didn't hit New Orleans, it hit the coast near central Mississippi. Those levees being destroyed and the city flooding out is what added to the high death rate Helene's death toll so far is from her DIRECTLY. ...and they're still finding and counting missing bodies over a week later.
ProfD Posted October 6, 2024 Report Posted October 6, 2024 @Pioneer1, natural disaster death toll numbers aren't broken down for the public by direct and indirect impact. Same goes for catastrophes. For example, a bridge collaspes. Crushed and cardiac arrest prople get counted together.

I understand, however at some point we must decipher the REASONABLE from the UNREASONABLE when tallying the death count of any disaster. Most of the deaths in New Orleans...in my opinion...shouldn't be attributed to Katrina although they wouldn't have occurred if Katrina hadn't occurred. Only deaths from the immediate and near immediate impact of the storm should be. I had a couple of cousins down in Mississippi who committed suicide (actually murder suicide) as a result of living in one of those FEMA trailers over an extended period of time, but the reason they were in the trailer was because of Katrina. This took place MONTHS after Katrina....but their deaths were an INdirect result of the storm. So should THEIR deaths be counted in the Katrina count also?

We don't try to figure out which cigarette did it or whether it was 1st or 2nd hand smoke.

We did get a weather alert on Wednesday to expect the air to smell like Chlorine, but the rain showers didn't last long enough to come our way. I'm just so sick of our state government allowing these caustic corporations to continue with a lacksaidaisical approach to operating.

We don't try to figure out which cigarette did it or whether it was 1st or 2nd hand smoke Then if THAT'S the case.... We might have to blame EVERYTHING bad that happens on this planet on YAKUB...lol. Everything White folks are responsible for..... Cigarettes Liquor Weapons Even the bad weather....from White folks who affect the climate with their technology. Trace it all back to it's source....lol. Mel I would've thought it was AI if I hadn't seen it on our local news. Well I'm hearing conflicting reports about it. Some say they have it under control and the fire is out, others say that the shelter in place order has been extended until next week. ....but just as long as my sista is relatively safe and doing well. Hopefully Troy will take your advice and either prepare or just move himself and his little girl to a safe spot this week. * Now this is a time when you actually NEED a White man at your house , to make some gas masks and fortify the home so that toxic air won't seep in. Also to make those little ham-radios to communicate with the outside world while yall are sheltered in place. ...they're good for shit like that...lol.
ProfD Posted October 6, 2024 Report Posted October 6, 2024 @Pioneer1, Garrett Morgan, a Black man invented the gas mask. 1

Keeping an eye on Black students so they can monitor future "threats" to their society 2. Close proximity to Black creativity so that they can STEAL ideas in their inception and capitalize on them as well as get the credit. 1

I hope no one lost their lives in this storm. 1
ProfD Posted October 10, 2024 Report Posted October 10, 2024 According to news reports, hurricane Milton made landfall as a category 2 storm. Not the category 5 that would have been much worse. Mother Nature has an interesting way of playing with scientists. Their models and predictions sometimes fall flat. Better to be safe than sorry though. I hope everyone remains safe throughout the hurricane season. 1
Chevdove Posted October 10, 2024 Report Posted October 10, 2024 I think that they predicted it would lessen to a cat 3 but they said that was not the actual danger. They said the actual danger was the storm surge.

Troy Posted October 10, 2024 Report Posted October 10, 2024 Well, this was a much more damaging storm. I thought the retention pond behind my home would reach my house. It would have with a couple more hours. The preserve next to me was completely flooded. The winds were as strong as I’ve ever experienced. I risked becoming “Florida man” to see what I felt like outside 8-) I a the tree roof tiles and a shutter. Other than that I faired pretty well. I never lost power and today is a beautiful day. 2

ProfD Posted October 11, 2024 Report Posted October 11, 2024 Glad brotha @Troy is safe and sound down there in FL. Saw a few folks on the news who were in the path of the hurricane and determined to stay put anyway. I wonder if any of them ended up in the death toll.
