was this someone who ran track and field in the 21st century?

Yes, a couple of my relatives also chimed in and they ran track.

One of my in-laws, was slated to go to the Olympics when it was supposed to be held in Atlanta years back and he ran on the relay team.

He said that those batons are made of metal and even though they are hollow, they are still solid.

as far as a medical doctor line about a diagnosis. I don’t know if a medical doctor actually made one. It has been several weeks since I watched the videos in this conversation, but I don’t remember a medical doctor claiming concussion.

I too have not watched it again recently, but I think that it was said several times that it was a medical diagnosis.

IMO the junior was running very close to the senior and she was close enough to hit that junior hard enough to the point that she abruptly ended her race and fell down.

I hope though that the two girls will make peace between the two of them and this does not go any farther.

It would be a shame if it ended up in court.

Yes, that baton has to be something solid that the runners can get a good grip on. As we know, passing that baton successfully is the hardest part of a relay race.

The American 4×100 men's team of  brothas missed out on an Olympic gold medal because they screwed up passing the baton.

Female athletics lend themselves very well to aggressiveness because women are naturally catty in their rivalry. There's a lot of bad blood among the professional women's basketball.players.

Do you know that she planned the attack before the race began?

It doesn't matter.

She committed the attack anyway.😊

It does matter if one is to prove intentionality ...... malice afore thought.

There is no question as to whether or not she committed the act.....the question is was it intentional as in premeditated.

It doesn't matter, he spit out his mouth piece....he planned it before he did it, that's for sure.

Thats called in the heat of the moment/passion

There is more to the human psyche...and lucky for some of us - the laws of many lands are beginning to recognize them and give weight to them

On the other hand Tonya Harding attack was commissioned intentional deliberate and even premeditated....please note the difference.

And in those notes...
Please explain why it even matter?

Because acts done in the heat of passion are seen differently...They lay between intentional and accidental - A sudden irresistible urge

it is tantamount to accidental - an automatic reaction done with little or no consideration.

All 3 were intentional, regardless of the planning involved.

Have you ever went to the store and bought something you didn't PLAN on buying?

But you still bought it.
Not by mistake...but on purpose and deliberately.

Yes....it is called "Impulse buying"....purchases made suddenly without planning

well, what was the their on the video. do they think it’s possible that the girl got a concussion?  Have they seen anything worse and imagine they have and I bet it didn’t make the national news.

yeah, we boycotted the 1980 Olympics. There was a brother from the Bronx who was supposed to be on that team..

Do you think women are born that way or is it the result of patriarchy? Just messing with Mel 🙂

Just as Cynique explained, the baton would have to be solid enough because the athletes have to pass the baton.

So, hollow or not, especially if it is metal, it would definitely be solid enough.

I have several relatives and close friends that ran track and relay, and the few that I've asked did not watch the video but believe that the junior definitely had a concussion from being struck with the baton.

It may have been a slight concussion, but she definitely fell out of the race.

She fell down and completely stopped running so, that means that she was definitely hurt by that baton.

You know, there are a lot of news stories nowadays that make the national news that in the past I believe would not have.

Man, I really have to proofread what I write.  The quoted text was not what I meant to write. Anywho...

@Chevdove I can guarantee you that the baton was hollow and as light as your cell phone.

Anything is possible, but obviously I think a concussion was highly unlike, but what do I know.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one 🙂

I agree that she probably did not have a concussion.  I do think the strike was intentional.😎
