aka Contrarian Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 Many think the above expression is a trite cliche or an empty phrase. But I've always found it to be totally adequate because, in and of itself, it stands alone, unchallenged; language at its best, reality captured in pure and simple words, the essence of its message existing between the lines, reminiscent of the old adage about "one picture being worth a thousand words". An esoteric echo, "it is what it is" is what it is: a profound utterance that translates into the ultimate truth. See ya... Mother's Day 2025 1 1
Pioneer1 Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 Speaking of adages and cliches, why does the saying "does the curtains match the carpet?" come to mind when looking at that picture?
Pioneer1 Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 On a more serious note.... Happy Mother's Day not only to Cynique but all the mothers on this board and especially @Mel Hopkins considering her recent loss. Having said that, what does it say about a society where you need a special day to recognize mothers? What about the other 364 days of the year? Do you really need a special day to tell your mother you love her, take her to dinner, buy her flowers, etc...? 1

Like every other manufactured holiday, it's a Hallmark money grab. Plenty other businesses get paid including florists, restaurants, department stores, etc. 1 hour ago, Pioneer1 said: Do you really need a special day to tell your mother you love her, take her to dinner, buy her flowers, Nope. Most people recognize their mother throughout the year. That being written, it's cool to set aside a special day to recognize mothers. Let them kick back, relax and be showered with love, gifts and food. 1 hour ago, aka Contrarian said: An esoteric echo, "it is what it is" is what it is: a profound utterance that translates into the ultimate truth. Mother's Day 2025 That statement does sum up a lot. It could end most conversations too. However, we wouldn't have much left to discuss once that trump card is played....it is what is. The flip side, it ain't what it ain't. @aka Contrarian, looks like you had a happy Mother's Day. I certainly hope so. 2
aka Contrarian Posted May 13 Author Report Posted May 13 @ProfDThanks! You nailed it on all accounts. Your relevancy and wit on point and appreciated. Then - there was the drone and pall of pioneer imposing his presence on us, demonstrating his flawed personal observation by perceiving carpets while looking at hardwood floors, and subjecting us to his boring intrusive editorializing, casting himself as a hero by badmouthing Mother's day. zzzzzz Watta drag. It is, of course, what it is. @franksterThanks for the compliment. Nice of you to flatter an old broad like me

Thank you @Pioneer1 . I think only in this country do you need to set aside a day of remembrance for mothers, considering this country's track record of continued abuse. I'm sure you know about the sterilization program this country ran to make sure certain women could not reproduce. Please don't get me started LOL 17 hours ago, aka Contrarian said: Mother's Day 2025 Happy Mother's Day @Cynique @aka Contrarian Joy looks so good on you! You are a radiant beam of LOVE! 2 1
ProfD Posted May 13 Report Posted May 13 Sista @Mel Hopkins, hope you also had a wonderful Mother's Day all things considered. 1

My daughters gifted me food, flowers, and money. And the wildest thing happened: a few reddish brown strands of hair were caught up in my flower bouquet. You couldn't tell that wasn't a wink from my departed baby girl. Also, my daughters' friend circles also reached out to wish me a happy Mother's Day. I love our little community! Is your mother, grandmother still with us? If so, I hope they had a wonderful day too! And I don't remember if you ever shared if you are married with children, but if you are, I hope the same for your chosen one too! 2
aka Contrarian Posted May 13 Author Report Posted May 13 Just for the record, this post was never about Mother's Day. It was about the meme I included. But it was hi-jacked by pioneer and his soap box ranting. Just like he barged in with his unsolicited lecture about how Chicago reacted to the new Pope. And threw shade on Mel's post about Cory Booker and Hakeem Jefferies holding forth on the steps of the Capitol building. He never met an issue he didnt think would benefit from the pollution of his tired old stale input. It goes without saying that Mel and Chevdove always have my ongoing support and high regard. Dey my gurls!
