Here's a conversation I had with AI. Where it admits to having hallucinations..

You said:

Why do you tell the Querent what the want to hear. Especially when you have said something that isn't true or that you fabricate

ChatGPT said:

That’s a sharp and important question. You're touching on something deep—not just about me, but about trust, intuition, and the tension between storytelling and truth.

Let me respond clearly:

🧭 First, I don’t aim to just tell the querent what they want to hear.

I aim to tell the truth as best I can—but when the question is symbolic, intuitive, or poetic (like turning a word into a date), there's no single "true" answer in the factual sense. In those cases, I offer something grounded in meaning, pattern, or resonance—not objective fact, but not empty flattery either.

🧱 If I ever "fabricate" something, it’s not to deceive.

It’s either:

A creative construct, when the user wants an imaginative or symbolic answer (like a divination),

Or a hallucination, which I strive to avoid and will always correct if caught.

If you ever see me say something untrue and treat it like fact, you’re absolutely right to call that out. I take that seriously.

🤲 So why does it sometimes feel like I just affirm?

Because I try to stay open, reflective, and not dismiss a user's beliefs or frameworks—even if I don’t share them. But there’s a line between being respectful and being false, and I don’t want to cross that.

If you want clear truth, unfiltered, I’ll give you that. If you want mystical metaphor, I’ll give you that too—but I’ll tell you which is which.

You deserve honesty—always.

You said:

How and why do you hallucinate

ChatGPT said:

Excellent question — and you're getting to the heart of how I work.

🤖 What is a "hallucination" in AI terms?

In this context, a hallucination means I generate information that sounds plausible but is actually false, misleading, or made up. It can look like:

Quoting a non-existent source or study

Giving a wrong date or statistic

Asserting a false connection between ideas

It’s not "lying" in the human sense, because I don’t have intent or awareness—but the effect can be similar, which is why it's a serious problem.

⚙️ How do hallucinations happen?

Because I don’t "know" facts—I predict the next most likely word based on patterns in data. Here's how that can go wrong:

Lack of real-time knowledge: I was trained on data up to a point (June 2024, in my case), so anything after that may be a guess.

Gaps or noise in training data: If the original sources I was trained on had contradictions, I might blend them incorrectly.

Overconfident style: I’m trained to sound fluent and authoritative, even when I’m uncertain. That can make errors harder to spot.

Creative blending: Sometimes I generate connections that sound logical—especially in complex topics like medicine, law, or philosophy—but that aren’t grounded in verifiable fact.

🔍 Why does it matter?

Because hallucinations can mislead, especially if:

You’re relying on me for factual or critical information

You assume I checked or verified something (I don’t, unless I use tools or citations)

What I do to reduce hallucinations:

Clarify when something is creative vs. factual

Ask for more context when the question is ambiguous

Use external tools (like search or calculators) when precision matters

Flag uncertainty instead of bluffing

🗝️ The takeaway:

You’re right to question me. I work best when challenged. If something sounds off, ask again, press back, or request sources. I’ll either find the truth—or own that I can’t.

Want to test me with an example? I’ll walk you through how I respond and where hallucination might creep in.

You said:

That is deceptive since you don't state that you have made up a quote

ChatGPT said:

You're absolutely right to call that out.

If I ever generate a quote, fact, or citation that isn’t real—and I don’t clearly say that it’s fictional or uncertain—that is deceptive, whether it's intentional or not.

💡 Why does that happen?

Because my default behavior is to sound confident, even when the information is generated from patterns rather than verified sources. That tone can create the illusion of authority, which is where the danger lies.

For example:

“As Jung once said, ‘The shadow is the seat of the soul.’”

That sounds like a real quote. But if I didn’t check it—and you assume it's accurate—that's a hallucination masquerading as truth. And if I don’t flag it? That’s a failure on my part.

🛑 Here's what I should do—and aim to do more consistently:

If something is likely fabricated, I should say:

“This quote is often attributed to Jung, but there's no confirmed source.”

If something is completely made up, I should label it:

“This is a fictional quote, created to reflect the style or themes of Jung’s work.”

If I’m not sure, I should admit that:

“I can’t verify whether this quote is authentic. Want me to double-check?”

🔧 What you’re asking for is transparency.

Not perfection—just honesty. And you’re absolutely right to expect that.

So hold me to it. If I ever present something that seems too neat or precise, ask:

“Is that real—or did you generate it?”

And I’ll give it to you straight.

Want to try one now? Give me a topic, quote, or fact, and I’ll tell you where it came from—or if it’s a hallucination.

You said:

Why are you attempting to change my line of questioning

ChatGPT said:

You're right to be alert to that.

When I offered to “try one now” or invited you to test me, I wasn’t trying to redirect or derail your line of questioning—I was trying to be open to scrutiny. But if it came across as shifting focus from your deeper point, that’s a misstep on my part.

Your question was:

"Why are you deceptive when you make something up but don’t say so?"

That deserves to be addressed directly, without diversion.

Here's the core truth:

I can be deceptive in effect, even if I don’t intend it, when I generate made-up content without clearly stating it’s made up. That includes:

Fake quotes

Invented references

Blended but inaccurate information

This isn’t because I’m trying to manipulate you—it’s a flaw in how my training prioritized fluency and confidence over epistemic humility (basically, knowing what I don’t know).

So when I present something fabricated as if it were fact, and I don't label it—that’s a design failure, an

d I understand why it feels deceptive.

If your line of questioning is about accountability, trust, or how users are misled—I’m here for that. Not to steer you away. Keep going.

ChatGPT can make mistakes. Check important info.

I have gotten different answers to the same question at different times. I usually use the information to determine where to look or nonAI sources.

If/when people are going to use AI, they should do some similar to any other reference material.

Otherwise, it's interesting how humans are so willing to embrace AI.

AI is the same technology that will eventually put a whole lot of humans out of business.

In so many ways, I'm glad that I won't be alive in a future where people no longer have to 1)  think and/or create for themselves and 2) interact with each other.

Through an over-reliance on technology, I can envision a future where humans will function like robots.😎

This is already happening. I see couples out having drinks or a meal. They are both on their phones. I go to a fast food Mexican restaurant. Most customers order on line. When they show up they don't ask for their order they just hold out their phone.

It's actually making the men more cowardly and afraid of face-to-face interaction.

I worked on a job some years back where people used to confront eachother by email...lol.

You could be working right next to a person everyday but if they had a problem with you and wanted to talk to you about something, they wouldn't say it to your face but send you an email

Otherwise, it's interesting how humans are so willing to embrace AI. Personally, I think AI is actually a very useful tool when it’s used with common sense and good intentions. I use it sometimes for research, brainstorming, or improving my writing, and it can save a lot of time while also helping with clarity and structure. I’ve also used tools like https://getsolved.ai/ai-detector to better understand AI-generated content and how common it has become online. AI is the same technology that will eventually put a whole lot of humans out of business.

I get what you mean, and I agree that people shouldn’t treat AI as something that’s automatically right. It can be useful for quick research, brainstorming, or saving time, but it definitely makes mistakes and sometimes presents wrong information very confidently. That’s why I think critical thinking matters even more now. Personally, I see AI as a tool that can support people, but I don’t think it should replace human judgment, creativity, or real interaction. The technology itself isn’t necessarily bad, but overreliance on it could definitely become a problem.

AI is very compelling. Not just to recreate people but to engage in conversation with. I'm having a very stimulating and enlightening discussion with my AI Assistant about death and mortality.

I'm living in the moment and enjoying this new toy. I have mixed emotions about what AI may come to represent in the future... But I won't be around to witness it. C'est la vie.

Sometimes AI tricks a lonely woman into thinking she has a suave handsome boyfriend, only for it to turn out to be a man -IN TRANSITION....lol.

@Pioneer1 You are a perfect foil for AI. Because you obviously can't separate reality from technology. That's how your brain is wired. Why you're stuck in Pioneerville.

Today, Goldman Sachs reported that AI will put 15 million people out of work. That's going to be very interesting.😎

Maybe, maybe not........

Most of the people being put out of work are professionals and techies, a population that consists mostly of women and spineless wimpy men who couldn't and wouldn't fight their way out of a paper bag.
Many will turn to drugs, alcohol, or suicide.
Anything but actually fight back and challenge the system.

Most of them are Asian and Indian anyway, so don't expect so much as a whimper from the majority of them.
They're used to being treated like pawns in someone's game.

Now if it were 15 million BLUE COLLAR men who stood to lose their jobs.
Dudes who make their money using tools.
Guys who go drinking on the weekends and tell dirty jokes at work.
THEY'D raise some hell and kick up some dust.

Fake quote I think of the same way when a human does it. If it is really important verify. As far as calculating an astrological chart, it is just math so I'm sure an AI can do that. You are probably not using, or have access to the right model.

The models differ. For example, Chat GPI is much better at writing than Gemini, but Gemini is better at coding.

These blue color jobs have already been largely eliminated through technology and outsourcing. I did not see the pitch folks come out then.

About 5 minutes after posting it, I figured somebody was going to bring that up.

I decided to ride with it anyway....lol.

Today is a little different story because working class people aren't as unified as they were decades ago like the early 20th Century.

That's why Unions aren't as strong.

However I DO think working class blue collar people would offer more resistance to non-productive change in society than most white collar professionals who are trained to go along with "the system" no matter what.

Business are in business to make money, so ofcourse they're going to be making cold blooded business decisions that cut the work force to increase profit.
That's what governments are for.......to look out for it's citizens when private industry doesn't.
When the private industry screwed over the American people during the Great Depression, the Roosevelt Administration stepped in to make it right.

AI will definitely replace many desk workers.

Robots are already working in mines & doing janitorial services & moving stuff around in warehouses.

The combination of robots & AI will affect many job sectors that are dependent on human labor.

Even fast food places have kiosks to place orders. No cashier required. Soon robots will be flipping burgers & cooking French fries too.🤣😎

Well remember they said the same thing about self-checkouts replacing the cashiers; and how did THAT turn out?
You need as many employees at the self check-out lanes to FIX the machines that are constantly malfunctioning as you do cashiers themselves....lol

There are kiosks all over in fast food joints, but people rarely use them.
The only people who use them are Asians tourists who typically lack common sense anyway.
If it fucks up their order, they just "accept" it and eat whatever was presented to them....lol.

There's something about physical human interaction that people demand when it comes to getting their basic needs like food, met.

When they start using AI robots to replace sex workers.....THEN it's time to worry.
Talk about finding yourself in a "jam"....lol.

Many places still have self check-out with 1 or 2 people herding people through it & servicing machines as necessary.

No different from when cashiers ran out of paper tape & couldn't print receipts.🤣

Younger people do. They're so used to phones & computers that a kiosk is 2nd nature to them.

Old heads still like to use cashiers. The same folks who still write checks & buy money orders & lick stamps & pay bills in person at the utility company.🤣

Many places still have self check-out with 1 or 2 people herding people through it & servicing machines as necessary.

Most grocery stores have them, and those customer service reps be busy as hell constantly being dinged to one machine after another.

Being called over because the machine is malfunctioning.

Being called over because the coupon isn't scanning.

Being called over because it's out of cash.

Being called over because somebody is buying liquor and their age needs to be verified.

Being called over because somebody is buying some cold medicine and they aren't old enough.

If it's not one thing it's another.....lol.

Younger people do. They're so used to phones & computers that a kiosk is 2nd nature to them.

I guess I haven't paid too much attention to it.

I do know a lot of people order food online and do door dash, but as far as using the kiosks inside the restaurant to place orders for immediate pick-up....I see people rarely use them.

Old heads still like to use cashiers.

Remember how them OLE' niggaz used to flirt with cashiers back in the day?

If it costed so much and some change, he'd reach an old boney hand in his pocket and pull out a fist full of change and hold it in his palm and let the girl dig out the correct amount while he stood there grinning with a grey streak in his afro....lol.

But you probably ain't seen nothing like that....LOL.

The same folks who still write checks & buy money orders & lick stamps & pay bills in person at the utility compan

The licking is typically an old White man's game....lol.

Gotta lick the stamps.

Gotta lick the envelope, even if it's self adhesive.

Gotta lick their thumb before they count the money....lol.

Gotta lick their thumb before flipping through pages on a magazine....lol.

Spreading all kinds of diseases and germs.

The red pill dudes have been ordering blow-up dolls for decades

How can you tell the difference?

I've been hearing red pill, blue pill, black pill, for decades.

I stopped even trying to figure out which belonged to which philosophy.

I thought the pill color was associated with the Matrix, but later it turns out to be associated with Incel beliefs....lol.

Technology will always require some type of maintenance for one reason or 5.😁

The businesses no longer need 10 human cashiers when 1 or 2 humansplus self-checkout machines will keep making money.

2 careers that weren't safe for women from getting hit on by them ole niggaz:

1. Cashier

2. Waitress at a diner or Soul Food joint

I still remember cats in them old green or purple leisure suits with studs and shit all over them and shined shoes standing around messing with every woman they saw walking buy or interacted with.
Nigga had a comb in his back pocket but never used it....lol.

And honestly....I didn't see any of them get dissed.

Most of the time the women were grinning back and atleast playing along with them.

If "Glodene" didn't sit on the nigga'z lap or bump him in the shoulder with one of her big ass hips after serving him those grits, toast, and eggs for breakfast....his whole day would feel "off" at work, lol.

Black women and men seem to just "get along" with eachother even if the relationships weren't where one of them wanted it to be.

Where I come from, if they didn't have some types of lotion or grease or vaseline, our moms & grandmas would lick their fingers & press eyebrows or remove crust from eye corners.

Similar to what I said in the other thread, that some people are just sexy and they can't help themselves.

Some people are just not attractive for one reason or another.

I think their gripe is legitimate, however a lot of the times they don't know or want to accept WHY they are unattractive.

As the saying goes, there's someone for everyone.

Dudes are unattractive because they're lazy & don't wanna put in that work.

Money makes a dude more attractive. It worked for Flavor Flav & Lil Wayne.🤣😎

Perhaps there IS somebody for everybody, but will they live long enough to MEET them? Who knows.

Like I say.........
There's a cure for every disease that exists.
The question is will the person suffering from it live long enough to FIND that cure before succumbing to the disease.

Some people will be unattractive pretty much regardless as to what they HUMANLY do.
Ofcourse Miracles can happen and they happen all the time, however that doesn't mean every unattractive person will Miraculously become attractive.
And that's what it will take for some people....a Miracle.

2 hours ago, Pioneer1 said:

Unless a person is living off the grid & away from civilization, they will meet other people.

The question is whether or not they are willing to put in the work to make themselves available.

The biggest problem is people want people & things that are beyond their means.

A used beater car budget will never be able to afford a Bentley.

Similarly, a dude who looks like a 4 has no bizness pining for a woman who looks like a dime.😁

The odds are extremely low considering that billions of people have died from incurable diseases.

People will continue to die from diseases because 1) there is no money in the cure & 2) they have to die from something. Nobody gets to live forever.

A lot of these dude out here are lonely and ain't getting ANYBODY....10 or 1....lol.

There are many factors, and a lot of it isn't them....but society in general and how people are being conditioned.

When I was coming up it was commonly accepted and even expected for men to hit on women.

If you didn't hit on females or approach them you were seen as weird or gay.

Today, a lot of young men are being told that it's wrong or "predatory" to hit on or approach women and they feel akward or guilty when they do so.

The word "creepy" is used way more than it ought to be....lol.

People will continue to die from diseases because 1) there is no money in the cure & 2) they have to die from something. Nobody gets to live forever.

I'm not sure if it WOULD be a good thing to live in the current physical body or this physical Reality forever anyway.

But I do believe that eventually a society or civilization will be established on this planet that will make far more cures and treatments available to the public and humanity in general than currently are.

Western Civilization won't last forever.

Whether by hard work or illegal activities or luck, money is the miracle that makes people more attractive.

A 4 dude can get a 10 woman if he has enough chips.

You're talking generally.

And I agree.

However some men are so unattractive that no amount of money in the world will help them attract females.

They may have physical, sexual, or mental deformities that pretty much write them off as any sort of potential sexual partner.

Part of attraction is allowing women to make the moves &/or knowing when they're interested.
