Join the #readingblack movement and Enjoy Sunday Spot Video for Books

Sunday spotlight

The Sunday Spotlight is new video feature where I share information about interesting new and upcoming books, in short videos I think you will really enjoy. In this video I share information about 5 terrific titles— there is something for everyone.

These videos are produced in partnership with The Tea; a web series where, “books are the topic and women are the voice.” Each month a new book is discussed and videos are published every Thursday. The conversations are intelligent, informed, and engaging. Even if you have not read the book you’ll enjoy the conversation and maybe discover your next great read.

The #readingblack Movement encourages readers, of all colors, to read books by Black writers and to buy those books from Black-owned bookstores and websites. If you are interested in helping to promote the movement please:

? Use the #readingblack hashtag when sharing information about Black books, authors, and booksellers on social media.
? Encourage others to visit the newly created platform readingblack.com. There we will share information and strategies to raise the profile of #readingblack and to help booksellers meet the needs of readers, authors, and publishers.

In the almost 20 years I’ve been tracking bookstores, 2017 is the first year that I added more newly opened bookstores to my website, than closed stores that I’ve removed.

As part of #readingblack I’m providing free code that allows anyone to easily share a list of websites focused on Black books and Black-owned bookstores on their website or blog. Both lists are automatically updated, work over HTTPS, are optimized for mobile, and may be styled to suit your website’s design.

Dear Reader,

This will be the last eNewsletter I mail in 2017. But that doesn’t mean I’ll be taking any breaks.?

I’m really excited about the prospects for the coming year; the #readingblack movement is building momentum; our printing arm, AALBC.com Prints Books, just completed our first job; Edit 1st, our manuscript edit service, continues to grow; and the AALBC.com website redesign is coming along very well—expect a homepage face lift in the next few weeks.

Our partnerships with What’s the 411 TV, The Tea, MahoganyBooks, The Sacramento Black Book Fair, Go On Girl Book Club, The Kingston Book Festival, and others continues to grow an bear fruit.

2018 promises to be a great year. I hope yours is the same!

Peace and Love,

Troy Johnson,
Founder & Webmaster, AALBC.com
