  1. Hey @Troy, For some reason I was thinking about @richardmurray earlier this week and how he posts threads about movies and music. Not sure how easy it is to program but maybe you should think about having a "Movie Night" forum where say....richardmurray or any poster can post a movie we can watch and have a little chat-room next to it so that members can watch it together and comment on it together in real time. Kind of like live videos on Youtube. For example, Somebody post the movie Three The Hard Way. When you first post it....you post it LIVE at a particular time for most of us regular members can log in and watch it together and comment on the side in the little chat-room. Ofcourse after the live you can watch it anytime and comment on it in the future. I'm not sure if there is any copyright obstacles to this but it's something to think about. Along that line, maybe you can come on and speak from time to time with a little chat-room next to the video where we can comment in real time. Just an idea.
  2. Cube is a straight UP hustler. But an intelligent and articulate one. Kanye is a nut. The fact that he put Cube's name out there like that is evidence of that. He may have gotten rich, but not because of his talent or savvy but because the industry pushed a nut like him out there for their purposes. But Cube.....truly self made. There may be some beef....but not for long. That comment from Cube came out relatively lately, so you almost KNOW that Kanye is going to come back with some bullshit verbal attack. But to go off on Cube would be one of the biggest mistakes of his career.
  3. Well....if they were in NWA under the leadership of hell-raising Jerry Heller; then they already sold out...lol. I think Ren took a page from Ice Cube's pro-Black book and became a Nation of Islam promoting pro-Black conscious rappers for a minute. Yella went into the porn business....directing, lol. The question is: What happened to the Arabian Prince?
  4. This just goes to show Black folks have no code whatsoever. Kanye should not have put Ice Cube out there. At the same time, Ice Cube and those dudes shouldn't be on camera talking about it either. Black folks shouldn't air their dirty laundry or grievances in public. No other group of people sells their differences and dysfunction on air for entertainment. 😎
  5. Exactly........ The games these people play. Another game they've been playing over the past 10 years or so was counting deserts and forests as people. Political commentators will put up a map of the United States featuring communities that are mostly Republican in red vs communities that are mostly Democrat in blue. What's deceptive is -everywhere PEOPLE actually live is Democrat blue but all of the land that is empty and nearly deserted except for trees and coyotes are red. But they'll put the mostly red map up to make it look like Republicans dominate the U.S.
  6. @Chevdove Thank you for sharing this overview - many of his activities within the Black Community are on exhibit, too, with a call to the attendees to get involved. One of the activities included the elimination of cash bail. -It's rarely reported, but many people, including Black women, are in jail because they can't afford bond. And before anyone says they shouldn't have done anything wrong, consider this here in Georgia: it could be as simple as not knowing you have to stop even on a four-lane highway if a school bus is stopped on the opposite side and there's no cement median. This is one of his causes that he's put his reputation on the line by speaking out and using resources to get laws changed. While the slow wheels of Justice churned, I heard about one of his efforts to bail out moms before Mother's Day, and I also found out he did the same for fathers. I don't feel the need to plead his case because he wields way more power in this country and doesn't need me -but I appreciate when many lend their celebrity to shine the spotlight on injustices in the Black Community. https://amsterdamnews.com/news/2017/06/22/jay-z-follows-footsteps-mothers-day-bail-out/ @richardmurray I appreciate how the Black Excellence forum prohibits negativity - but I felt this one needs to be open to all commentary. Also, quiet as kept, I don't believe in "Black Excellence" in art. Art is messy, and it's open to interpretation. Thank you for sharing info on the NY State Library system. I'm a native NYer, and while there, I never knew to ask if there was a difference in library cards because mine was a Brooklyn Library card. I did ask the Librarian while I was there, and he told me about the closed system. Libraries are the "best-est."😊
  7. Troy I'm from NYC and remember Rev Al when is was an obese, perm-sporting, medallion-wearing, jogging suit attired brother. He did not fit the mold of a leaders and was an easy target for ridicule. In his sermon he mention that a reporter told him that he was surprised Al would end up an a State dinner in the white house -- shoot I was surprised too! Of course Brother Al has modified his appearance conforming to the traditional mold -- indeed out dressing pretty much everyone. Do you remember when he got stabbed while he was out marching? Obama's embrace of Sharpton over Tavis Smiley and others was deliberate and ultimately divisive to Black leadership. I don't remember Obama embracing Sharpton over Tavis, perhaps he did but it seems that those two men served two entirely different roles in the community. Sharpton is an activist and stirs up the grassroots while Smiley was more of a journalist and commentator. I would think it wouldn't be about embracing one over the other but more about using both based on which ever role was needed at the time. However what you're saying is very possible because I remember Tavis offering very heavy criticism of Obama even BEFORE he became president and even in his early days in office. Much of the Black community was angry at Tavis for his critique of Obama and holding him to account for how he plans to help us versus being a pawn for the White establishment. Sharpton roles was apparently to keep the Blacks under control. Lol......that would be most Black "leaders" in the United States. One would think Obama would have assumed the leadership role, but I'm not surprised he hasn't... I'm not either....lol. He KNOWS he wouldn't be an effective leader of AfroAmericans. He's too thoughtful and logical minded to lead AfroAmericans. He's also too stiff and emotionless. To lead AfroAmericans you have to be loud, bold, and know how to express strong emotions and control the strong emotions of the community. Obama could lead intellectually.....but not Spiritually. ProfD Leaders take actions to motivate people to get on code and be ready to work or fight or whatever it takes to accomplish the mission. Yeah.... Now TRUMP is a sho' nuff leader! Not only does he run his mouth and speak the words people want to hear, he knows how to INSTRUCT those who follow him into taking action. He knows how to stir them up and send them out with an action plan. Over the past 50 years and counting, Black folks have been devoid of leadership. Although I understand the point you're making and agree theoretically if you're talking about POSITIVE leadership......I would say the opposite is actually true. Not only have we had definite leaders in the past 40 years, we've had TOO MANY leaders....leading our people in the WRONG direction. They're called RAPPERS. Starting with Run DMC, then Public Enemy, NWA and then Tupac and many others, rappers have been the main ones instructing the Black youth on how to dress, talk, act, and what to believe in and how to express themselves. And ofcourse many of THOSE rappers have been influenced and encouraged by the racist White executives who are paying them to promote dysfunction and degeneracy. Chev Thanks for posting You're more than welcomed queen!
  8. If anything, they should have kept Professor Griff and ditched Flav.....lol. I still think it was wrong they way they did Griff. He didn't say anything that Public Enemy as a group weren't rapping about anyway. His remarks CERTAINLY weren't nearly as anti-semitic as Ice Cube's were in No Vaseline....yet Ice Cube went on to have a major successful career in Hollywood. Troy Are you talking about this video? .....the video and radio version was the EDITED version, lol. I come to find out later that about a quarter of the actual lyrics were edited out to shorten the song! Here's the song in it's original totality:
