  1. I already knew what "poignant" meant. That's why i questioned you. I double-checked to see if i was right, and i was. i'm still puzzled as to why any definition of poignant would be a reason to side with pioneer. I would think the word "cogent" would be a more appropriate one in the context of the discussion. Definition of cogent. 1 : having power to compel or constrain cogent forces. 2a : appealing forcibly to the mind or reason : convincing cogent evidenceb : pertinent, relevant a cogent analysis. I never intrude myself in an argument between you and Troy, but lately you always run interference for pioneer, something which involved a 180 degree turn on your part. The reason you gave for your sudden change of heart was mawkish in hindsight. My disagreements with pioneer are nothing i have to think about; his bold assertions based on his skewed world view just invite my disagreement. A lot has to do with the over-confidence he exudes in making his oft time far-fetched pronouncements; there's a weird dynamic between us.
  2. @DelYou are rarely objective about Troy; especially in his exchanges with pioneer. i still think you use pioneer as an instrument to obliquely snipe at Troy. And, of course, i expect you to deny this.
  3. Bottom line, scientific procedure in proving something whether it be spontaneous or hypothetical is about trial and error and cause and effect, no matter how sophisticated the equipment and resources are. IMO
  4. @Pioneer1One of the few times i've ever agreed with you. All black women aren't like me. That's a plus for you.
  5. Verrry interesting. i am from Maywood, Illinois, the home town of martyred Black Panther leader, Fred Hampton. In my internet encounters with "human" entities, very often their personalities transcend their words. some people i instinctively like; others I don't. C'est la Vie.
  6. Wind always fascinated me. You feel it, hear it and watch how it affects things, but it is invisible.
  7. @Kalexander14 I can honestly say that i find pioneer insufferably obnoxious. His enormous ego and inability to deal with rejection prevent his from accepting this as being my true feelings. BUT.THEY.ARE.
  8. poignant: evoking a keen sense of sadness or regret. You sound like you are confusing poignant with pungent - although i would agree that pioneer's sad attempts at making his points are something he should regret.
  9. Apparently Black Panther is evolving into something akin to an ink blot replica, something which everyone sees what they want to see in it. All of the intellectualizing and deconstructing are superfluous to me. How blatant can it be that it's a movie which millions of black people find palatable on many levels because it was something they had long been salivating for. The true taste-test is what concrete positive results will be left in its wake. Granted, it is headed for "legendary" status, but Michael Jordan is a "legend", a billionaire who makes his money off of black people purchasing his exorbitantly-priced gym shoes.
  10. What is your definition of "poignant"? and why would that be a criteria for an argument being on the nose. and what you describe is "taking sides".
  11. @Kalexander14 Attitude is a factor in swaying my opinion and your playful attitude makes you easy to digest even if i don't always agree with you. I find it hard to swallow the swill of wanna-bes like pioneer. BTW, you mention Larry Hoover, a notorious figure from Chicago. Are you from the chicagoland area?
  12. Well, since self-appointed arbitrator Del had decreed that pioneer is rendering an OPINION, and since Del's opinion does nothing to validate pioneer's opinion, which pioneer, as usual, tries to pass off as fact, using himself as an authority, i will stand by my opinion, which remains the same. Science is knowledge gained from trial and error, a simple process that dates back to primitive times, and is still the basis of modern scientific procedures. The word "science" is a western translation of what all cultures were doing but had their own word for it. Again, this issue is all about people putting their spin on words in an attempt to impose their opinion on others. And that's for real.
  13. Maybe the aliens were black.
  14. When you get into things like levitating, you are entering the realm of the occult, and what some would call black magic. Some would also exercise caution when investigating this because you may be summoning forces from the dark side. This is all included in what is known as the "old wisdom". Maybe the reason some of what mankind once knew, was better to forget. Who knows......
  15. i still don't see how seeing "Africa on steroids" aka as "Black Panther" is that significant and helpful to black people in America. i don't even think Africans are as blown away by this picture as the America diaspora is. i find it pathetic that we are so impressed with a movie based on a character created by a white man and is produced and released by 2 white companies who are reaping its enormous profits, none of which are benefiting its biggest fans. i think we should cut the crap and "call a spade a spade". Black folks have been played, and the movie's pre-release hype which programmed their minds, was a fom of manipulative brain-washing. Enough already! Back to reality. @Kalexander2 What are your journalistic credentials, babe? Your writing syntax leaves something to be desired.
  16. Aerodynamics defy gravity.
  17. Pioneer calling Kalexander crazy is like the pot calling the kettle black. Just because he's not a troll doesn't mean he's not an egomaniac. He's so hard up for compliments he makes them up about himself. I am starting to like Kalexander because he's good-natured and thick-skinned.
  18. How can you separate science from knowledge????? Definition of science: "The intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment." Primitive people learned earth science (geology) through trial and error. Not all science takes place in a laboratory. Also, alchemy which the ancients practiced is a science and is not strictly western in origin. The builders of the pyramids were stone masons, precursors of the ancient Fraternal Order of Free Masons, who adopted the T-square and compass as their symbol. Both of these are scientific instruments. Some say, aliens came to earth and taught these stone masons the science necesssary to build the pyramids .
  19. Well, going to college is more than just getting a degree. While at college, i learned a lot more than what was just in books. It was the whole college experience that also taught me lessons for life; about dealing with people, and situations, and self discipline and independence. Of course, this was during a different era. College will weed out those who can't handle all that is required to stay there. Those who can't cut it, flunk out. Those who are able to cope and maintain the required grade point average, graduate. Nobody is just idling there. Troy speaks from his experience in private industry. Things are little different in government jobs and public utility ones. These jobs don't discriminate in hiring practice and anybody can apply for them and by passing a test and getting through an interview, can score entry level jobs, where the work place is a little different from corporate America's. Once the competition begins in regard to moving up, everyone i know who as been in this situation has said that those who have degrees have the edge when all other things are equal. So no one can generalize about the situation. Del makes a good point about how technology is replacing a lot of common labor jobs, not to mention how the wages are lower. A college degree is a tool. It doesn't mean that you aren't an "educated fool', or are a superior person, but it is an asset.
  20. Well, at least it's "down to earth". Who's to say that a slick Hollywood-produced extravaganza is more impressive than this simple alternative?
  21. Well, having the courage of one's own convictions is a choice. What one believes and gravitates toward defines one as an individual, as opposed to a vacillating, ambiguous fence sitter. My response to a person, really depends on how they present their opinion. I am challenged by arrogant pontificators. I am charmed by people who suggest their opinions to me, rather than impose them upon me.
  22. i still think it shows more imagination and creativity to use a symbolic avatar. I think it's presumptuous to use the picture of someone else to represent one's own self. I, myself, use a screen name and my own picture and, as i've said, i have nothing to hide. I stand by everything i say, including how i really don't like this country.
  23. Well anybody who earns a college degree is not to be dismissed. Those who college isn't for, wouldn't have the academic smarts to last 4 years in college and graduate. No denying a college degree looks good on a resume, and when a job promotion is between a person who has a degree, and one who doesn't, the candidate with a degree has a leg up. i can't imagine anyone wasting time going to college for 4 years if they felt better suited to be a plumber or a hairdresser or the owner of a rib joint. i've always regretted not finishing college, and the 2 years i spent going to one where i received the equivalency of an associate degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences, taught me about subjects which served me well through out my life. Education is never wasted.
  24. @Kalexander2What are blossom buddies? Are they from the same dictionary as hydroglyphics and pro se, as opposed to bosom buddies, per se, and hieroglyphics?
  25. @Kalexander14Oh, Puleeze. As much as i butt heads with Pioneer who is regular poster of long standing on this site, i find your accusations ridiculous. Also you might be interested in knowing that Del is a college graduate. You can't just explode on this site and start making charges and judgments about others who have been posting here before you came here comporting yourself as an authority on everything.
