I’m gonna give the white guy who shared this YouTube video the benefit of the doubt given the title of this video. I assume disparaging title was crafted to attract viewers. It popped up in my YouTube feed and I was amazed to learn it was a young Claude Brown, author of Manchild in the Promised Land! I have never seen a video of Claude Brown. He grew up in Harlem and I could relate to his story. for a kid his 20’s I think he handled the interviewer well. He was right the about Moynihan report. The interviewer kept pressing about out of wedlock births, while completely ignoring the reasons for those conditions. Interestingly the rate in Harlem back then is the United States rate today. I wonder what Briwn would think of Harlem indeed this country today.

Of course it is not just marketing. So the only other reasons, you believe, Libro is not competitive with Amazon is because of selection and outreach to the Black community? Are you suggesting that Amazon has better outreach to the Black community than Libro? Amazon has never said "boo" to me. LIbro has reached out for my support. They work directly with booksellers by providing materials to help sell audiobooks and much more. Amazon does not -- indeed they alienate Black booksellers. Libro has a smaller selection of audiobooks than Amazon, as publishers often give Amazon exclusivity for audiobooks. That sound crazy, but it is true. Imagine if Amazon got away with this for print books ... actually they do. Many indie authors give Amazon the ability to exclusively sell their books! These same authors then wonder why I'm not keen or adding their books to my online store I add a links to Libro.fm for every audio book that I can find add to this site. The only reason I have no sent these readers to Amazon is that, unlike ebooks, I actually sell some audio books through Libro.fm. I was able to add a link to Amazon Kindle's ebooks for every book on my site in about 10 minutes, because Amazon make it easy for affiliates to link to their site. There was no other ebook vendor I was aware that I could do this with Libro, as nice as their site looks, makes it more difficult to add affiliate links tp their site -- They have given me API access and I consistently discover audiobooks browsing their site that the API does not pick up and I'm often manually adding audiobook links. Ease of integration has always been Amazon strength over all other competitors. Amazon have exploited affiliates to build their monopoly. This is only the tip of the iceberg in explaining why Amazon dominates. So where do you buy your ebooks @daniellegfny You skipped over that point (again) and jumped to audiobooks.

Yeah I had a conversation with some before the lock downs, who worked for the government and told me the Corona Virus would be far worse than what was being reported in the media. He turned out to be right. I believe preventing wide scale panic was a motivation. I guess this messaging caused confusion in the population, that is not too bright to begin with... I'm curious too, as I asked the question in another conversation.

Assuming Biden made the statement he is taking one man's statement suggesting that we were being lied to by scientist and health leaders, which is just stupid and dangerous. Dangerous because is sowing doubt. As far as I know the medical community never said you can't get Covid after being vaccinated the advice has always been get vaccinated because it will help you avoid the worse symptoms, hospitalization, and death. Still you can died from covid after being vaccinated but the probability is MUCH lower. Covid, like the flu, is constantly mutating. Apparently they have not found epitopes that are constant across all mutations or that protect all people from the most harmful effects of the virus. The fact that the world has done so much to protect as from Covid is actually commendable given how fracted we are. More than 6MM people have died globally -- more than 1 MM in the United States, a relatively alarming number given our wealth. Then again given a sad health care system and media we probably got off as well as can be expected. The number of deaths the US experienced is more than it should have been. Lives were lost unnecessarily. The guy doing the questioning in the video above is sowing doubt and this is killing people as a result... Still as with the flu vaccine you are safer getting vaccinated than not getting vaccinated -- don't you disagree?

Again I asserts that my perspective is indeed broader than yours and as a result I see thing differently and more accurately that you. I have operated as a selling on Amazon for almost 25 years and as far as Vending I know how that works and I sell books on the platform. I will make the next book I publish available on the platform as well. But you can ignore my vast experience and knowledge if you like. It is a cliché, but I don't think opposites attract either. I have the most fun with people who I commonality with. Some difference are tolerable but I doubt I could be involved with someone who is an active bumper-sticker-using, maga-hat-wearing, Trump supporter. Pioneer the video is 2 years old. I don't know if the platform ever launched. Have you found a website for it? I found this one: kingdompay.com but nothing is there. Kingdom Pay's social media has been dormant for 2 years as well. This is not surprising' Google is always listening and anxious to get you to watch and share their videos.

Amazon does control the means of production, distribution, retail and even delivery into your home (if you choose that option). In many markets they are a 100% vertically integrated company. Yeah they'll give that to native peoples. Being raised in a white racist culture I too fell prey to the notion that Black people are inferior, save on the athletic field. The reasons are complex and I no longer feel that way, because I learned more that what our society shoves into our face 24/7. Now if I were a white person, born in a culture that reinforces white supremacy, and the marginalizes Black people, I imagine it would be even harder, for a white person, to dispense with the notion of white superiority. Besides, what would be the incentive? As I learned, travelled, and understood more I know white people are not intellectually superior to Black people. The science tells us this as well. The presence of a "Greg," regardless of their motivation or phenotypical characteristics, is a direct result of a white racist society. Indeed that is who Greg is: the manifestation of a white racist society.

I can understand why you and others might find Amazon “empowering.” when you have limited options choice is relative. Northerners enjoyed inexpensive shirts and did not give much thought in how they were produced. Most people didn’t.

This is what i see when i log onto the Culture forum: of course these topics are in mo way representative of the people who regularly post here, and certainly not the site’s owner, namely me. The real problem is not just one poster the problem is that there is so little participation here one person can easily overwhelm the forum making it look like the site is home to a bunch of self-hating Black people. I don’t want to provide a platform for that ideology or even give the appearance of doing so. There are a number of ways i could handle this; the sledge hanger approach would be to just delete all of Greg’s posits and ban him. Which would clean up the display shown in the screen shot above. right now I’m leaning on deleting these posts and banning Greg. I know this is a reversal off my earlier position, but not I see things are differently now… Opinions?

@daniellegfny The Amazon conversation deserves a separate thread. I’ve been an Amazon affiliate for over 20 years, so i know a little something about the subject. Anazon is indisputably a successful company, that is If your only yardstick is profit. Antebellum plantations in the south were extremely successful too. They helped give people what they wanted too. The issues with Amazon are complex.

Yes Amazon used affiliates to help garner market share then changed the terms such that profit from being an affiliate was cut dramatically. Apple tries to be exclusive and that has limited their reach. yes make your books accessible wherever it can be sold 🙂

It is the algorithmically driven feed that pushes content to people based upon what engages them. They may not care about it, but the content has been determined to keep them engaged based upon their personal characteristics. It is not just the sophisticated social media feed. I get an email all the time with click-baity subjects lines that I have sometimes have to resist clicking on. There are websites running ads with the same characteristics -- you have to put blinders on. I have patience for ignorance. I must less patience for arrogant ignorance: people who refused to acknowledge they my not actually know something when it should be clear that there is information out there they are missing. Get involved that is the purpose of the forum! Yes, I agree with what you wrote. To clarify: there is no genetic basis for race. Pioneer disagrees with this, as his eyes apparently tell him something different. Race, and it's evil spawn racism, are are social constructs. It think everyone agrees on this, although Pioneer has asserted that racism goes back thousands of years. I disagree with this as there is not evidence of it and Pioneer has not produced any when asked.
