  1. Wanda was cool. She acknowledged and validated AALBC early on. Often people of her stature don't do this unless white folks to it first. She wrote an article in reaction to the criticism her review of one of Maya Angelou's memoirs recieved, "Book Reviewing, African-American Style." BTW, welcome to the forums @BonitaLPenn. What have you been up to?
  2. Troy replied to Maurice's topic in The Poetree
Unfortunately both book appear to be out of print. @BonitaLPenn I just added Jump Bad to the site, for archival purposes. One day I may start selling out of print or rare books.
  3. See America is a one-drop rule nation white people can easily get away with calling themselves Black. Seven of Homer Plessey's great grand parent were white, and he could easily pass for white, but the Supreme Court ruled he was Black. Welcome to America. Jean Toomer was Black. He didn't like it, but we embrace him as Black, and this IS American, so he is a darkie just like you @Pioneer1.
  4. Western civilization does not foster unity. By it's very nature it is competitive. Even it's religions are competitive with each other...
  5. No, I was a member of Canaan Baptist Church of Christ, Rev. Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker, one of MLK's boys, baptized me. Malcolm's Mosque #7 was on the Corner; Canaan was in the middle of the block.
  6. It is because African has is the most genetically diverse population on Earth. Everyone can trace their ancestry back to Africa. Africa is the birth place of the human race.
  7. I never get involved with the Bible conversations here, because despite going to prominent church most of my childhood I do not know nearly as much as you all do.
  8. Yes I'm familiar with Smalls. I was just curious how Danielle came to speak with him? @Pioneer1 all I'm trying to say is that could be not be trying to build and maintain the interstate highway system by ourselves. All Americans must to contribute to this. As far a our own communities we should rely on ourselves and our businesses more.
  9. People in Africa are different shades and this is not because of mixing with Caucasians, Native Americans, or East Indians. How do you explain this @Pioneer1?
  10. Defintely share the link to the updated are article @Wendy Jones I'm looking forward to reading it. Changing the royalty payment percentage read is theft. "A" still gets paid full price. The reader is not charged based upon the portion of the book read (which is none of A's business).
  11. Actually, that statement is objectively "insane." We can't have a meaningful conversation on this subject if you believe this. I mean other statements you've previously indicative of this too, but this last one is too absurd for me to even waste my time to asking you defend.
  12. You don't know what "fact" means; just because big government, according to you, said Uber is essential does not make it a fact. My "Antibigbusiness" does not tint my position. It informs it. Uber has every incentive to keep drivers like you on the road. Your government decided, apparently, to declare Uber essential. This increases the spread of covid. Do you know how many people you infected and God forbid, killed? All so the uber can stay in business...
  13. Butler's novel, which I first read last year, has found a new audience given it's dystopian future of America. I'm not aware of a Black-owned ebook publisher, same goes for audiobooks. I'm not saying there are not any -- I'm just not aware of them. If you learn of any please share. If there is a Black-owned platform that sells a large list of titles, can be easily integrated with AALBC, used DRM, and available on a wide variety of platforms I would adopt it tomorrow. For ebook sales I use Hummingbird: hummingbirddm.com/ for audiobooks I use Libro.fm. You can see examples of how I refer sales of ebook and audiobooks on the page I have for Parable of the Sower. Of course I sell the physical books directly.
  14. @daniellegfny raised a good topic. I agree with @Dee Miller's statement and @Pioneer1's statement on how to break the cycle. Independence is key. We are all dependent upon each other we can not provide food, maintain an infrastructure, protect the environment, etc, all by ourselves -- all Americans need each other for some very basic things. But in terms of our communities and especially our businesses, we can not continue to support massive corporations, we have to support our own businesses. Either we are owners or sharecroppers. As a sharecropper you create wealth for the landowner -- never yourself or community. Sharecropping is better than starving, but you have to risk starvation to be free. Most, it appears, are not willing to take the risk, and maybe they shouldn't, because they are ill-prepared to take on the risk. Independence requires a supportive community, training and education, and obviously a desire for it. ------------- Yes I noticed that problem too @daniellegfny and am working on it as I get a chance. If you know HTML you can go into source mode and insert images that way, but I appreciate that will be too technical for most
  15. @daniellegfny, you can read the information I provided above or click the graphic for even more information. The book is a Young Adult novel. Here is a definition of Young Adult: https://aalbc.com/content.php?title=Target+Age+Group+Descriptions
  16. Oh brother... The implications of the slave holding states on the current electoral process is clearly unknown to you, so your only recourse is to hurl an insult.
  17. I reread what I would and don't see how you drew this conclusion. To clarify #readingblack lives here, not on Twitter. I'm happy for people to use any means at their disposal promote #readingblack or AALBC. The can use social media, email, post cards, or shout it from the highest roof-top.
  18. "Attack," don't you think that is hyperbolic? You are starting to act like a crazed liberal 🙂 Again, you are operating on the presumption that Uber is "essential," as a result, all the conclusions you draw from this will be flawed in my view. Now, you are now saying that some government bureaucrat has deemed Uber to be essential. I'm operating on the actual definition of essential not the government's classification of "essential." Again, you are exhibiting more liberal tendencies, but relying on the government to tell you what is "essential." Are you sure you are a conservative?
  19. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi Young Adult Fiction / Fantasy / General Young Adult Fiction / Legends, Myths, Fables / General Young Adult Fiction / Social Themes / Prejudice & Racism
  20. People do this all the time.
  21. Really? How do you come to make the broad generalization about people based solely upon their skin color? 😆 Mor >> as in "Moronic. Yep, that pretty much sums it up. Pioneer I agree with @daniellegfny you should vote. Danielle I agree with Pioneer the electoral college is not a good idea for a at least two good reasons. It was designed to give slave holding states more representation in national elections and the idea that someone can lose the popular vote by 3 million and still win is ridiculous.
  22. Is that an action you are taking because of something I wrote?
