Here is a Black political candidate who is probably gonna match the checkboxes of many folks.

He's Black, handsome, a celebrity and will grasp the issues quickly.

Black actor Hill Harper wants a US Senate seat

Lansing michigan, distrcit before the remap was strong for the party of abraham lincoln. Now is held by a member of the party of andrew jackson. 

In the end of the day, all vying for any seat based on voting have to get to work and convince the voters.

Hill Harper admits that he's not a politician.  Hus campaign is grassroots and funded by donations through his website. No superPACs.

 

I think Hill Harper would really try to help the state of Michigan.  Hopefully,  he wouln't get corrupted by DC.😎

Hill Harper's celebrity is an advantage, given the superficial nature of our culture.  He does seem to be genuinely interested in helping Black people. I've seen Hill a few times over the years mostly in connection with his popular books.  The last time I saw him in Tulsa with Killer Mike pushing some Black bitcoin platform.  I wonder what happened to it after bitcoin price dropped...

He's a Harvard educated guy (attended with former POTUS Obama), therefore, he has the intellectual capacity to be a public servant.

 

The orange former POTUS wasn't a politician before he ran for office either.  We see how that turned out over 4 years. Millions of people still love him.😎

Maybe Hill can run as Cornel West's vice president. Who i really have a problem with is Robert Kennedy, Jr.  He's a radical ainti-vaxxer who has become increasingly  distanced from his family. He has a very abrasive personality, and the Kennedy arrogance but his name recognition might get him over.  Who i surprisiingly like is Chris Christy, who is actually an independent thinker and tells it like it is about both parties.   

 

We don't even know if Hill Harper will generate the financing and excitement required for the media avalanche he's going to need for a statewide run. But I sure hope he does.

Harper does not need to be a politician. Many folks who vault into the ranks of the U.S. Senate these days are not politicians. But they have name recognition.

Some believe Harper should be a running mate for Cornel West. I dunno. The gap-toothed radical has a nasty habit of denigrating everyone he's ticked off with at the moment. I admire West's consistency and agree with much of his anger. But I doubt Socialism will ever be accepted by the uber rich, corporate titans and investors in this country.

Which is why I was not going to vote for Bernie Sanders. He could never win a nationwide election. Many of his furious supporters ended up backing Trump anyway.

It's still early, so we will see.

Bobby Kennedy, Jr? LOL Personally, I think this man is partly deranged. Now, he's telling people he does not believe the HIV virus causes AIDS. He was always out there and the only thing he has going for him at this point is he's the son of a murdered popular U.S. Senator. Still, I smiled and shook his hand when I met him twice in NYC's Lexington Avenue subway years ago.

I don't think Hill was referring to "politician" as meaning someone who previously in an elected office.  I think he means someone skilled at negotiating, placating, horse trading with a disparate, conflicting, and sometimes hostile groups.  That is a difficult role to preform successfully.  Getting elected, for Hill, will be the easy part.

@ProfD  well remember one thing, even if hill harper gets elected to a legislature, like all legislature's it works by collective action and sequentially, no matter what his quality is, if his peers are disinterested or disengaged then... nothing happens. One person does not swing a legislative body.

 

@Cynique Christy was governor of New Jersey, if he had achieved results as governor of new jersey to great effect, he could rely on that alone and not have to talk so much about others in the first place. 

 

@Stefan good point, the former representative of Harlem, the 9th district was a socialist and  though everything she said was true about affordable housing not being affordable and the usa pushing the war in ukraine. The truth is, if you are going to be another species other than elephant or donkey, you better be strong and determined or both will unite to crush you.

From what I've heard from people back in Detroit, he's been pretty active in the Boston-Edison neighborhood he moved into a few years ago as well as city politics.

I didn't think he was from Michigan and according to his bio, he's not.
So maybe he's pulling a Hilary Clinton move by "adopting" a home city and state to get his feet wet and launch a Presidential bid later on.
Kind of like Obama did with Illinois.

If this is the case, it tells me he's smart and strategic enough to be successful not only at becoming a Senator for the state of Michigan (which I'd fully support) but occupying the Whitehouse too.
