  1. 1. If you are a producer , and a black duo, one screenwriter+ one director wants to get a Black film [characters/themes] made, will you pitch the project to a chinese producer?

Mufasa has yet to come out but what can be gathered from the end of the year.

The highest grossing films, top ten,  made in 2024 were all continuations of a prior film in some fashion, and that includes mufasa, if it has similar financial results.

The market outside the usa embraces cartoon films more. Films from the usa that display a distinctly usa cultural appeal don't have wings outside the usa.

The far east asian [China/Taiwan/South Korea/Russian] market stands alone as a rival to the usa domestic market. To restate, a film can do well domestically in south korea/China/taiwan/russia  and not do well outside either and be listed in the highest grossing films, just like films of the usa. The chinese films make up the majority of the films in the far east asian and they cover a range of styles, not overwhelmed by one genre, but comedy seems to be the link between all the entries from the four sources in the far east asian group.

Chinese produced films, are dispersed throughout. It seems china has the only domestic market that can truly provide revenue to challenge the wealth possible in the usa. [ https://www.the-numbers.com/box-office-records/worldwide/all-movies/cumulative/released-in-2024 ]

Asians constitute 60% of the world population.

Of course, anything Asians produce domestically can do very well financially.  Pushing it abroad just brings more money.

OTOH, the US spends a ton of money marketing films internationally.😎

I saw a handful of these films and none of them impressed me and most were simply awful. The top grossing films are seemingly made for children.

I watched the movie The Conclave the other night it was excellent.  It probably will not be a top grossing film, but I'd be surprised if it is not nominated for an Oscar.

@ProfD

what does OTOH mean?

@Troy

I have to know, do you include deadpool and wolverine as made for children?

Including yours, I have heard or read four reviews of the conclave from folks I am connected to online and they are split down the middle.

Well, the catholic church as a topic will lose some global market share de facto.

More and more humans are used to a fast media experience which means they don't have the patience for a telenovela speed drama in a film, fewer ticket buyers.

The stars in the film while well known to movie goers aren't the most electric at the moment.

I do think the caste and the pace of the film make it oscar bait.

Have you read the book the film is from, I have not?
