ProfD Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 https://www.bbc.com/news/live/clyjmy7vl64t Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau plans to step down on 24 March 2025. PM Trudeau has been in office since 2015. Apparently, internal differences within the Liberal Party have led him to tap out. Trudeau says if he has to fight with his own party, clearly, he should no longer be in the job. Smart man. Remains to be seen who the Canadians will choose to lead their country into the future.
Pioneer1 Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 I don't suppose that meeting he had with Trump which...by some reports...turned out to be a failure on his part, had anything to do with his plans to resign. Nah...that COULDN'T have anything to do with it, lol. 1

Nah...that COULDN'T have anything to do with it, lol. That meeting was my 1st thought upon hearing the news that he was stepping down. Fighting with the party could be a smoke screen. Either way, I don't blame him for cashing out. Time to enjoy the rest of his life without worrying about Canadian citizens. 1
richardmurray Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 @ProfD he isn't alone to, i wish i knew the numbers or some newspaper did investigative reporting concerning elected officials who are leaving earlier than average. I recall the first schrumf presidency and many left who had decades ahead of them into the private sector. But I want to say, trudeau and alot of these other people were are not and will not be worried about the populaces they are in a position to govern. Malcolm and advocates of that quality are very very rare and usually stay far away from government.

Worried in a figurative sense. Canadians do not have societal issues to the extent of their southern neighbors. Correction...Canada does have a history of slavery. Different legacy. Minorities accept the country belongs to white folks. 1
richardmurray Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 @ProfD they do have a history of enslavement to the first peoples, but your correct, having a less multiracial populace always helps a country be more stable

Canada does share a history of enslavement with the British empire. I should have written that Canada's legacy of slavery is different from the United States. 1
