ProfD Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/06/politics/al-green-censure-trump-protest-house/index.html Not the "Let's Stay Together" singer but Rep. Al Green (D-TX) got himself censured today. 10 of his fellow Democrtas voted in favor of it. During POTUS OJ's Tuesday night speech, Rep. Al Green decided it was time for him to perform. He was given a chance to settle down. Instead, he kept yelling and the Sargeant at Arms escorted him out of the building. Rep. Al Green didn't get himself kicked out of the Capitol stomping on behalf of Black folks. His concern was Medicaid/Medicare.
Pioneer1 Posted March 7 Report Posted March 7 I agree. He got HIMSELF kicked out but just acting up and showing out. I didn't watch his speech so I heard about what happened the next day and got a little salty over it and thought about the White congressman who kept interrupting Obama and calling him a liar during HIS State of the Union speech and how HE wasn't escorted out and was allowed to stay. But after watching Mr. Green's performance....they were totally different. Like you said, they kept giving the brutha a chance to sit down and shut up but he just kept standing up point his cane and saying something that nobody except those sitting next to him could even hear anyway. The people on television couldn't hear what he was saying. He was just making a spectacle of himself because whatever he was trying to do was ineffective. On top of that....he stood by himself. Nobody else stood with him or took his place and heckled Trump after HE was escorted out, so what good was his stunt???

No game plan to regain power. Just sour-faced opposition. They sang We Shall Overcome during the censure vote. Rep. Jasmine Crockett is the most vocal member of the Democratic party. She's yapping every time there's a camera. The other day she was dancing in a YouTube or TikTok video. Meanwhile, POTUS Orange Jackazz is scrawling with his pen signing executive orders and shaking down world leaders and talking on every camera and steamrolling his program through and busting shots at the Democrats. Busiest 45 days we've ever seen. Again, the Democrats need to regroup and come up with a leader(s) and agenda. Otherwise, the GOP will be running sh8t for the next decade or longer In rolling America back to the 1950s with white power on full display.
Pioneer1 Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 One of the reasons I still rock with Dr. Umar Johnson is because of the powerful truths and insights he drops from time to time that you just don't hear from a lot of other speakers. One day during a lecture he said that you don't have a lot of Black leaders willing to die for the Black community because they have enough sense to realize that if they DO stand up and end up paying the price with their lives, a lot of our people will be indifferent to it and some will even look at their death with contempt and say, "Didn't nobody tell him to do that. Nobody told him to get himself killed like that." The mentality of so many of our people of just letting you "hang" by yourself. You call yourself "standing up" to racism or the system and expect a group of Black folks to put their shovels down and start backing you up....and them niggas are over in a corner grinning and twirling their fingers at their heads calling you crazy. Congressman Green put himself out there for nothing because nobody else stood with him to do.....whatever he was trying to do.

It is not just about making money it is about self-esteem. But it is also about being where their constituents are, so on some level they have to do these things to reach people... I guess. 20 minutes ago, Pioneer1 said: One of the reasons I still rock with Dr. Umar Johnson Umar lost me when he took folks money and failed to open a school. When the school is opened and educating students then he will have my ear again (what is the latest with the school?). 30 minutes ago, Pioneer1 said: One day during a lecture he said that you don't have a lot of Black leaders willing to die for the Black community because they have enough sense to realize that if they DO stand up and end up paying the price with their lives, a lot of our people will be indifferent to it and some will even look at their death with contempt and say, "Didn't nobody tell him to do that. Nobody told him to get himself killed like that." I was not old enough to remember ( @aka Contrarian is), but my understanding is that in his day MLK was disliked by the majority of Black people. After King's murder people were FAR from indifferent with riots erupting in major cities all over the country. Even in modern times the public lynching of George Floyd resulted in a similar reaction. If you are really working for the people, Black people will care if you get killed. However, if are supported by "da man" the reaction will likely be indifference (no one will be rioting in the streets if Clarence Thomas catches a bullet). But if you are a tool of da man assassination is nothing you have to worry about anyway.
Pioneer1 Posted March 8 Report Posted March 8 Troy Is Green that Gen Z'er in congress. If so, this is what we have to look forward to. No. Congressman Green is "up there"...lol....at 77. I was not old enough to remember ( @aka Contrarian is), but my understanding is that in his day MLK was disliked by the majority of Black people. My Father...who is actually FROM Alabama...and lived during that time told me the same thing. Most people didn't care too much for what he was doing because they were afraid he was stirring up too much trouble and was going to get a lot of White folks mad and a lot of Black folks hurt. A lot of Black folks down South didn't like how a lot of Black folks up North would come down there on those "freedom rides" getting into the faces of White folks, organizing marches, and trying to get Black folks to vote. Not because there was anything wrong with those actions... But because they saw them as coming down there stirring up trouble only to turn around and LEAVE and go back up North and now THEY gotta deal with the shit.

That is understandable. I wonder, in hindsight, what your father would now say about the impact of the efforts of folks from the north. The south got segregated schools. I went to segregated schools all my life. I tested into a magnet school and was able to get out of going to my all Black and Puerto Rican neighborhood high school. Even today the south is a magnet for Black northerns seeking a better life in destinations like Texas (Houston, Dallas, Austin), Atlanta, Charlotte, Florida (Tampa, Miami, Orlando), etc.

And he also remembered the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It was real. Talk about "barber shop talk"...... He said he remembered back then in the barber shops Black men would sit around arguing with eachother over King and the other Civil Rights leaders and what good they were doing and how "them White folks" would never let "niggas" go to school with their kids or be equal with them.....and he said AS SOON as the Civil Rights Bill was passed those same Black men who were talking shit were the first ones to try to date a White woman or sit in the front of the bus or sit at the best seats in restaurants....lol. The same ones criticizing King and 'em were the very first ones to take advantage of his efforts...lol. 1

The vast majority social media users are not monetizing their social. Social media companies derive so much financial benefit from our participation. They really should be paying everyone who uses their platforms. Sure, there are some people who are making money on social media. But if you haven’t already figured it out yet, I think social media has been a negative on our society — we’d be better off without it.

Understood. People will always use some form of entertainment in their lives. Figure out an alternative to social media as a time sink or form of entertainment and become very wealthy.
