ProfD Posted April 13 Report Posted April 13 https://www.express.co.uk/news/science/2038534/dire-wolves-cloned-extinction-scientists In this episode of dumb sh8t scientists do, a company has supposedly brought back the extinct dire wolf. The article details how they did it. There is a mention of bringing back the wooly mammoth too. Scientists have been cloning animals for a long time. As far as we know, most of the cloned animals do not survive for very long. However, if these animals are being used to produce GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and whatnot for human consumption, it probably doesn't matter how long they live. I digress... Skeptical scientists believe this dire wolf is a hybrid. I still question the need to bring it back from extinction. Even if the red wolf population is shrinking, that doesn't make it necessary to bring back a species. Just encourage the red wolves to reproduce more abundantly. At any rate, surely scientists will claim this research brings them closer to creating life or preserving it or both. I'd still rather scientists waste, er, use time and money to come up with cures for incurable human diseases. Not that folks need to live past current life expectancy. Curing diseases will give more people a chance of making it to 79 years old or longer. Otherwise, I doubt that bringing dire wolves back will do a d8mn thing in that regard.

From cloning to colonizing other celestial bodies and building space stations, it's all about self-preservation for them. Especially if sh8t goes sideways here on Earth.
Troy Posted April 13 Report Posted April 13 Yeah, I heard this story too. It is a remarkable technical achievement. Jurassic Park is not too far off.
