1st Black Maryland governor Wes Moore vetoed a state bill to study reparations.

Firstly, there's already been a few studies into reparations for America's original sin of slavery.

The interesting part is nobody had to study other reparations i.e. Native Americans, Israel, Japan, Holocaust and Chinese Americans to name a few.

Gov. Wes Moore is a rising star in the Democratic party. They may be grooming him for a 2028 POTUS bid.

IMO, Gov. Moore is on a trajectory to be POTUS Barack Obama 2.0. Gov. Moore isn't going to do anything to upset the system of racism white supremacy.

Vetoing the state reparations bill has already put white folks on notice as to where Gov. Moore stands on that issue.

Gov. Moore will be consistent with the Democratic philosophy of pandering to Black folks for their support and a promise to deliver nothing in return.

Gov. Moore still has 3.5 years to show Black folks something different. I don't suggest depriving oneself of oxygen in the process.🤣😎

I would have vetoed the bill too.
But probably not for the reasons the Governor did.

As you alluded to, we don't need another "study" on Reparations.
What do they need to "study"?

They know how horrible Slavery was, the damage it did and is still doing....what more is there to "study"????
Cut the fucking checks!

I would veto that mess and then have a press conference expressing how it's time for an ACTUAL Reparations Bill, not some damn "study".

Right. The effects of slavery don't require a study.

Right. No study required.

Gov. Moore is of Cuban and Jamaican descent on his maternal side. We already know how non-FBA folks roll.

Gov. Moore didn't offer an alternative plan for a reparations bill either. Instead,  he talks about opportunities for everyone. That lift all boats canard is never late.

Gov. Moore smiles way too much. That permanently, plastered, sh8t eating grin is a smoke screen and a red flag. All skin folks ain't kinfolks.🤣😎

Apparently, the bill is “veto proof,” so I guess they can go ahead and do the study.

I don’t see the harm in doing the study. Seems to me it should be done at the National level, but the state level is better than nothing.

Are they only gonna consider people who were enslaved in the state of Maryland?

The other problem is where is Maryland gonna get the money to pay reparations Maryland State taxpayers?

A study would address both of these questions and more. I don’t see how you can talk about cutting checks without at least looking at those two things.

Speaking of supporters, one of the people mentioned in the article is a supporter of AALBC not Wes Moore, but one of the supporters of reparations, Nkechi Taifa. Makes sense huh?

Correct. The MD congress could overturn the veto.

The nation isn't remotely interested in studying slavery or reparations.

Right. Just like California, the thought is to get reparations passed at the state level could spread up to the national level.

Yep. Either way, taxpayers would ultimately be responsible for reparations.

There's enough historical data about slavery to compile and paint a vivid picture of everything it entailed pre- and post to make a solid case for reparations.

Alao, they could model other atrocities that have led to reparations and build upon it.

California killed its reparations bill in a similar fashion. Black lawmakers pretend they want to tackle the issue. It's not really within their best *interests* to go hard in the paint for it.

There's no shortage of brilliant people who could make reparations happen. America has no desire or incentive to do so.😎

... and the longer they wait the less likely people will be willing to make Reparations a reality.  Indeed, we may have already reached that point.

It is a class issue, leaders like upper middle-class brothers like Wes Moore will not fight for it, they don't believe it, they can't relate to it, and really aren't interested in benefiting the people who have been wronged by it -- including "the other Wes Moore."

Well I don't know TOO much about Governor Wes Moore.
To be honest, I didn't even know he EXISTED until recently when I saw on the internet people calling him a tether and sambo for vetoing the Reparations Study...lol.

It's a stalling tactic.
A waste of time to keep you in a state of confusion and expectation.

It's like a man who doesn't really want to marry a woman but will "court" her for 5 years.
TALK about engagement for 10 years.
Actually GET engaged without a ring for 10 years.
Then finally buy her the engagement ring but remain engaged INDEFINITELY until the "right time" for marriage.
See where I'm going with this???

This is indeed the problem.

It was the problem with California...which was NOT a Chattel Slavery state.

Reparations should be paid at the FEDERAL level so that the funds can be somewhat guaranteed to be consistent and not subject to change with each new Administration.

The Federal Government can literally MAKE UP all the money it needs to cover it's expenses; the state can't.

Another problem is if they actually DID start passing out Reparations checks in Maryland, guess what?
Millions of Black folks from around the country will start MOVING TO MARYLAND...lol.

Infact, ALL Black folks who immigrate to America would immediately go to the DMV area to take advantage of that opportunity.

It has to be done on a NATIONAL level to ensure things are balanced.
