Comedian Jimmy Kimmel ran afoul of the current administration in his monolgue referencing the unalived white nationalist was killed by one of MAGA's own.

The FCC chairman had already threatened to punish Jimmy Kimmel for his remarks. Parent company Nexstar went a step further in sitting him down indefinitely.

This comes on the heels of AG Pam Bondi saying hate speech will be prosecuted. Nevermind having to hurdle the 1st amendment.

Jimmy Kimmel is already rich. He's not worried about having a job or money. Being censored is the bigger concern.

Now, the average person with a *job* has to worry about what they tweet, post or say on social media and anywhere else as the US experiments with fascism.😎

I doubt the average person is saying anything heinous or bile or vicious with their real name on social media. All the craziest stuff I’ve seen quoted is from anonymous people — unless they Uber wealthy and they can say whatever they wanna say like Jimmy.

The real concern is if some nut out there kills him for it.

On the other hand, I would hate for someone to judge me on everything I’ve written here. On occasion, I exaggerate or say something sarcastic or facetious that have taken out of context might make me look crazy.

Context matters.

A meme strips, out context and nuance and complexity, which is required to really understand the subject. That’s why they have books.

Unfortunately, I’m reading that social media feeds havea weakened our ability to sit still and focus enough attention to get through an entire book and  forget about a challenging book. Try to get the average adult to read Beloved for fun today.

People who are old enough to remember a world long before social media existed actually have a benefit over people who have never known a world without social media. I think we are more aware of how it affects us mentally because we have something to compare it to.

whenever I go to YouTube to upload a video, I always get sidetracked. Part of the reason is they bury the little icon you need to click to get to the place where you upload your own videos. That used to be Front and Center but now they are so interested in getting you to watch videos they bury it.

It is not unusual for me to be sitting at my desk with the intention of uploading a video and 30 minutes later. I’m watching some stupid video and have completely forgotten why I went to YouTube in the first place.

Maybe if people are afraid of saying something on social media that will get them fired they’ll stop using it. Net-net getting people off social media is a social good 😉

Social media is currrently swarming with threads and reels and memes of people going by their real names, many of them famous, badmouthing Charlie Kirk. When you post on FaceBook/META , your name and profile picture automatically come up and are a link to your home page. FaceBook will ban you and put you "in jail" if you get too outrageous or profane. The trolls are busy, too , injecting their propaganda.

One of these people spamming the boards  is a black minister by the name of Rev. Dr. Howard John Wesley. His soeech condemning Kirk has gone viral.

there are so many people who posted, and presumably profiting from this video. I’m not sure which one is complete, but I imagine this will at least give one the gist of what the pastor said.

It is not one of the vile memes or content celebrating Kirk’s murder that I’ve heard about. I also do not think this video should be banned.

I was previously unaware of this video. YouTube uses of variety of other techniques to bait me.

There are many stories of Facebook sharing violent videos with young people. These are generally chalked off as algorithm glitches, but the fact of the matter is that this filing content is allowed on Facebook and all of Meadows platforms.

Meta even scrap there fact, checking efforts.

So I’m not sure what you’re talking about when it comes to Meta and their content moderation…

@TroyOK. I forgot that things changed when FaceBook became META - and Zuckerburg dispensed with fact checkers after the last election.  And, presumably "Facebook Jail" no longer exists

My post was mostly in response to your saying you doubted if the average person would say bad things using their real name. Right now FaceBook posters in great numbers are saying bad things about Charlie Kirk - and each other and they are not doing it anonymously. The same  goes for a lot of well known people.

Kirk's death has sparked a great outcry

What's puzzling disturbing about this situation is how ABC and other (supposedly "liberal") major mainstream media and other institutions outlets are punishing their employees for any type of irreverence or disrespect for a man who was a mere social influencer.
He wasn't a head of state or religious leader.

So why are institutions around the nation paying him so much homage and forcing their staff to?

It's JUST the excuse these racists in charge of society need to "shoe horn" their racist sentiments into the psyche of the public and make racists views like Kirk's more "mainstream".

After the 60s....really after the mid-60s....we had it fixed to the point that White folks were AFRAID to run around saying the openly racist shit Kirk was saying.
Even the most Conservative Republicans did NOT mention or bring up race in their arguments but used all types of code words like "welfare queen" or "predator" or "criminal".
The closest they'd come is getting another Black Conservative stupid enough to do it FOR them.

But after around 2015 or so, they started testing the waters with it again and when they didn't feel much backlash they are now nearly full blown with their openly racist rhetoric with people like Kirk and others.
