Mellody Hobson, the 53-year-old co-CEO and president of Ariel Investments, is believed to be the first Black woman to be publicly identified as part of an original ownership group purchasing an NFL team.   Here's what Broncos Quarterback Russell Smith had to say about Hobson and the $4.6 Billion  historic purchase.

Yes.  So very proud of sista Mellody Hobson in her accomplishments as a businesswoman.

The first black woman as a part of an NFL ownership group is awesome.

It was a great look for billionaire S. Robson Walton (Wal-Mart) to bring Mellody into the fold.

Our course, sista Mel Hopkins you're still the OG MH among us. 😎

Mellody Hobson has a great backstory -I’m not surprised she’s winning in the finance game.

I'm glad that our beautiful sista is part of NFL ownership (if she still is since the OP is over 2 years old now) and is now an accomplished author, however THIS is an issue:

Who Is George Lucas' Wife? All About Mellody Hobson

She's married to Film Director George Lucas

I'm not sexist or chauvanistic.
I don't mind a sista being part of a "power couple".

However I AM  counter-racist, and I DON'T like it when beautiful, intelligent, and successful sistaz link up with White men.

No doubt she's educated and intelligent, but I wonder how much of her recent success is linked to being married to George.

well, I don't know her but from what i have read two things

1) she had  a career as a financial operator before she met george lucas, so she didn't marry him and suddenly get money like belinda gates or bezos wife or amny other women

2) most women with the largest money today have marriages as a role in their wealth. From the 1970s most women had no wealth, i think one of the tragedies of modern humanity is humans seem to not realize the racial variance of wealth in 2025 started in the 1980s it wasn't forever so most black wealth comes from business dealings with whites. most womens wealth comes from marriages to men. Comprehending one key poiint, white male wealth came from violence which if I recall correctly, blacks or women, in majority,  at least in the usa, have chagrined as evil or illegal or wrong or baddy

well, NFL teams are evaluated, in the billions , which in my view is overestimation, but since the endof the gold standard and the fiat in the 1970s most wealth today is human valued, it isn't that the numbers add up, it is that the humans in control of listing value say such things are, speculation. which mean a thing that looks has nothing to do with the value of the thing itself, but the qualities of the one looking

any way these articles confirm, the walton clan, owns the broncos , they brought in various minority investors, one probably because of the nfl's own guidelines, to selling teams, wanting to make sure non whites or women are part owners for the image of things. Supposedly Condoleeza Rice + Lewis Hamilton are also minority owners.

Well, like I said there is no doubt that she is an intelligent and capable sista.

I'm not religious nor chauvinistic so I don't feel a woman has some sort of "place" behind men or shouldn't be in positions of power or ownership.

However the fact that she chose to couple up with a wealthy White man and form a "power couple" is what I take issue with.

And like you said, unlike those other billionaires' wives...the fact that she already had money before marrying him really says a lot about her state of mind by choosing him.

So, we're not going to believe she met and fell in love with the man behind Star Wars and Indiana Jones.🤣

There's a 25 year age difference between Hobson (55) and Lucas (80).

She doesn't have to worry about him pressing for s8x.😁😎

@Pioneer1

yes, for the record I wasn't trying to suggest you meant anything negative to her. We all have our tastes:)

and for most of the women  i mentioned it is billionaire ex wives :) gates and bezos's wives all divorced

yeah, she is the president or ceo of a black investment firm started by a black man so i think she is comfortable in her tribe of the village, that being financially affluent blacks. She has a positive relationship with black people every day in her work life of all genders/ages/geographies thus I imagine her mentality is very secure with self. She just clicked with lucas, who to be honest is a divorcee so i think they had a personal clicking.

From a distance it seems many people get better and better with marriage after a divorce.

Perhaps you're joking, but it IS possible.

Many women fall in love with older men.
Too many Black women fall in love with White men because of their SEEMINGLY "mild" and "agreeable" demeanor.

Whatever the reason is, I would rather her be in the arms of a wealthy Black man...not him.

She doesn't have to worry about him pressing for s8x.

...maybe not with HIM.
But you know how those Hollywood freaks get down...lol.

I'll be honest with you....I simply don't like it.
I don't care if it's genuine love.

I don't like seeing intelligent, attractive, successful Black women in the arms of White men.

Would I stop it if I could? No.
It's SHOULD be a personal choice.
...but I don't have to "like" it, and I don't.

I actually tell Black women this in real life and many are visibly shocked to hear me say this, lol.

Definitely possible. Regardless of age. Love and s8x are not inextricably linked especially for women. They can fall in love for non-s8xual reasons.

Understood. There may not be enough wealthy black men for every wealthy Black woman.

You're definitely entitled to your position especially since there's nothing you can do about it.

Would you believe that many of them smile (a genuine smile...not a "this nigga must be a little touched let me hurry UP and get the fuck away from him" smile..lol) and actually come back for MORE conversation and perspective or to tell me that I was RIGHT about something.

They also say that they almost never hear other Black man say they are bothered by this.
I'm usually the first and some women even say I'm the ONLY Black man who ever said this.

Both African AND Black American women tell me this, by the way.

They are used to Black men being jealous of EACHOTHER but they rarely hear a Black man speak about not wanting Black women with White or Arab men.

Honestly, when I look in their eyes I truly think many of them are honored that a Black man actually cares so much about them that he's actually jealous.

Believe it or not, some women actually see jealousy and possessiveness as an attractive and masculine trait..as long as it's not taken too far.

Because it is rude to gossip about someone’s love interest —especially when it is a black man telling Black women who they should love.

Now men talking amongst men is a different story.

Marrying strictly for “love” is a relatively new concept in the annals of human civilization and probably not the best idea in the world given modern results.

I don’t think blind love or physical attraction was part of Hobson’s calculus for marrying Lucas. I’m also sure Mellody ain’t tryin’ to holler at me on anyone else on this forum… you can conjure reasons of your own for that or disagree.

I try not to spend too much time contemplating other people relationships I have enough difficulty figuring out my own 🧐

Sure jealousy and possessiveness may be flattering to a degree. Especially among younger folks.

But, with maturity, those traits pale in comparison to a man's ability to take care of a woman's real needs which are some form of security (financial, physical, status, etc.).

Facts.

When humans discover their s8xuality, it's not based on love. It's hormonal.

That's why people have s8x for pleasure. It has little or nothing to do with love.

Tina Turner sang it best after her ordeal..."what's love got to do with it. What's love but a second-hand emotion."

The western world places a heavy emphasis on love because it's a selling point in capitalistic societies.

Weddings, jewelry stores, Hallmark holidays and other businesses thrive around the concept of love.

Many non-westeners laugh at our concept of love when it comes to relationships.

Especially in cultures where marriages are arranged, they believe folks can grow to love each other over time.😁

Since I grew up a capitalistic society and love money,  I don't begrudge those who profit from people falling in love and spending a bag of money on it. 🤣😎

Most Black men I talk to seem to be indifferent about it and haven't noticed it UNTIL I point it out.
A few think it's weird that I'd even focus on it.

But about 1/5 of the Black men I talk to actually agree with me and don't like seeing sistaz with other races but feel there's not much they can do about it so they don't worry about it.

This is VERY true.
I've talked to so many people from other countries who experience just that.

Most of their marriages are arranged since childhood so they don't go around "looking" for love or "looking" for an ideal husband or wife.

The boys and girls are taught what is expected of them as they grow up and when they are married they pretty much carry out their duties.

I'm not sure what to make of that entire method...lol.

And different ethnic groups too.

I knew one Latina girl who told me she didn't date Black men because they WEREN'T jealous or possessive enough!

She told me she had one Black boyfriend who acted like he didn't care when other men hit on her, and she found it a major turn off.

She said she was used to men being angry or possessive  like how many Latino men act if you push up on their women.
She said it made her feel like he didn't care about or value her enough to try to "keep" her.

It reduces confusion and perversion.

I'd be slightly curious to know how her standards may have changed over time with the realities of life, aging and gravity.

When that pretty face gets plump or wrinkled and that banging body looks like an upside down pear, standards do change.

If unmarried in her 40s and 50s, I doubt she'll be still holding on to those same beliefs.  She'll be throwing that snatch box at any dude who's willing to feed her. 🤣😎

Well at THAT time...which was over 30 years ago...her face was ALREADY plump and round, lol.
She was fat, but voluptuous though.
Around her early 20s.

Perhaps, but most Latina women I know tend to get very "religious" after 40 or 50 years of age.
Especially the unmarried or widowed ones.

The woman mentioned above probably joined the same ranks regardless of her *standards* back in the day.

I see Latina women over 50 years old similarly built as the above grinning and smilng  with a gold tooth at Black men buying coffee.🤣😎

Over on this end, I see a lot of Black men hollering at and flirting with Latina women, but I don't see a lot of action taking place between them.

But just because I don't see it, doesn't mean it's not happening.

I don't chase after non-Black women anymore.
The only women I'll actually pursue are Black women from the Americas, Africa, or India (Dravidian types).
But as far as non-Black women go of ANY race....I don't chase after them, on principle.
So I'm not sure how likely non-Black Latina women of that age range are to actually have sexual relationships with Black men.

It's one thing to grin and giggle or let a man buy you coffee or a drink at the bar, and another thing to let him fuck you...lol.

The old Latina women I'm referring to are baristas serving coffee. A well to do Black man doesn't wanna hit that anyway. Same goes for women hanging in a bar.😎
