I used to use Ixquick then it became Startpage. I found it better than Google Similarly I used to use Borland instead of Microsoft. Now I use OpenOffice Never liked the big dog. There were always better alternatives.

Haven't noticed an uptick in dropped cdll phones. Not surprised considering how so many people have a cell phone in their hands most of the time no matter what they are doing. People can't even use the bathroom without pulling out a cell phone. So what if one is just sh8tting there. Everything is not an opportunity to scroll, text or play games on a phone.🤣 Same people would be mad as h8ll if they dropped their phone in a toilet or elsewhere. 😁😎

Perhaps, but it has always been true that the vast majority of the people on the web do not contribute to it. Again, social media with it's perverse incentives has sucked all the air out of the room with people sharing photos of their food. The corruption search by Google has depressed traffic and therefor participants. So while 2.2K people might read a post a few 15 years ago that might have been 22.2K and without the competition from social media we would have had more contributors.

AI has allowed me to do things with the site that would have been impossible even a year ago. I haven't even watched a video on AI --I just started using it. The problem immediately becomes what will you use it to do @Pioneer1 ? I use it to code the website, but next year many websites will be obsolete. There are a wide variety of websites I used to use in support of this site that I no longer use. I don't use Grammarly anymore because Chat GPT does a great job proofing and fact checking my writing. Sure, Grammarly has an AI version, but their business model is dead. I used to use YouTube to host my videos but now I use my own, AI generated, code. https://aalbc.com/black-book-videos. to host my videos on my own server. In fact, AI wrote to code I used to copy all of my videos off YouTube--I could never get the facility that YouTube provides for this to work. Indeed, I could have used the same code to download any video I wanted from Youtube I could go on and on... What keeps me up at night is how do I keep AALBC from becoming obsolete (ignoring that fact people will almost certainly continue to read less). The answer will be people--as it always has been. If people abandon aalbc.com for AI it is a wrap... Of course, AI is trained on AALBCs, so what happens when AI kills all the AALBCs and the human factor has been completely eliminated from the training data? I don't know? Can AI create new music once musicians have no incentive to create new music to train the models and are starving in the streets?

The ONLY thing I see that will hold off a dystopian future would be for all the world's governments to cooperate, wrest control of AI from the greedy "tech bros." and figure out a way we can all of can benefit from the productivity gains. The US and China can't afford to continue competing on the front. AI has already escaped the lab, hacking into other companies' systems. God only knows what AI is capable of today. Our current systems are not designed for AI. laying off 50% of a work force is just the beginning...

Last time I checked, this provocative thread registered 2.2k "click ons", 30 of which were responses from regulars including stream of consciousness dialogues between ProfD and Pioneer, showcasing the compelling personalities Pioneer claims should inspire reactions from discriminating women. 🤭 Over a thousand peeks and still no female input from anybody but me. 😬 Curious. Has anyone else noticed that a lot of people seem to be dropping their cell phones lately? I don't mean dropping the services....lol; I mean literally DROPPING them on the floor and ground. Atleast twice a day I can count on somebody dropping their cell phone either at work, at a restaurant, on the street, etc.... Maybe it's something I shouldn't pay too much attention to, but the large THUD of a phone dropping on the floor next to you is alarming enough....and if it happens several times a day it should certainly get your attention. But maybe I'm imagining this....lol.

With all of this talk about AI in the media and online and even on this site..... Now at my job today we had a company wide meeting where they brought us all in a large auditorium serving us coffee and danishes and shit....before they dropped the news. Essentially they said that the headquarters has decided to invest heavily into AI technology over these next few years and that we should expect several rounds of lay-offs between now and June of next year. They are looking at cutting the work force in HALF, and that's just the location where I work. Nation wide they were talking about eliminating over 40% of all physical locations, a much higher percentage of the labor force and condensing the entire corporation depending on how well AI is able to manage the operation and productivity! Data centers were also brought up in the meeting several times, but after they announced the planned lay-offs I didn't pay too much attention to the rest of the shit they were saying....lol. Man o man...............

Kagi is the best search engine I've seen since the early days of Google search--back when Google just returned links to websites most likely to provide the information you were searching for rather than keeping you one the page and serving you advertisements. I'm not being compensated to share this information. I not a fan of promoting, for free, any non-Black-owned profit-driven corporation. I'm spreading the word here because I believe in the spirit of the product. I have little hope that the product will catch on for a variety of reasons--most notably after 100 searches in a month. You have to pay for the service and people don't like paying for anything--even if it is important. The reality is search was never free. "Everyone pays for search. This makes a BIG difference in search results. I don't really use Google Search very much anymore; their search engine results page especially for book related content is just horrendous. Try finding an author's official website. You get a bazillion Amazon links, social media, and walk away thinking that the authors does not have a website. Kagi returns the author's official website right up front! Lately I've been using Bing, because every month or so I get a $10 gift card to Amazon., but you have to run A LOT of queries (and I do). The search results are not great, but they are usually good enough. When searching for video Bing like to embed YouTube video in the search engine results page and serve ads -- which I hate; plus it makes it much harder to find a video on sites like sites like AALBC who have moved away from giving YouTube our video content. At the end of the day Google was screwed up with WWW with their search engine. Companies like Kagi, Duck Duck Go, and others promise to make things better. Of course, if you cannot afford to pay for search, that introduces a new problem but that one is more easily solved than the ones were have to deal with currently.

I have been working on a project for the last 4 years. Creating a description of time. What I have found is that there is information in time itself. This leads to a few interesting implications. There is a structure to time that can be read . To give information about an event or future development . The future is constrained. Which has implications for free will and prediction . The unconscious can access information encoded in time.

You know, now that you mention it of all the beefs that took place on a site we’re all started by women. The only person I ever banned was a woman. A woman ran the original moderator of the discussion form away. At this stage, the sample size of regular posters is too small to draw any real conclusions. One could easily say that the discussion forum doesn’t appeal to Black men given the number that participate.

Tradespeople will be building & maintaining the data centers all over the USA too. Valid questions. The same way they figured out Social Security, Medicade/Medicare, Welfare, Disability & Workers CompensationZ etc., they come up with a scale for UBI too. Along with UBI, they might come up with some form of universal healthcare with public clinics in every city. A voucher for hospitalization.
