"Ambigram" that is a new one on me. What does "92\11\2" mean? The Brits would write the date as 22022022 I always thought that was a better way of writing dates (going to smaller to high scale. Happy 2/22/22!

What type of leaders do we need?
thanks Del. I have to combine that passion and commitment with working smarter. Which means utilizing technology and the talents of other people. That has been my biggest realization while here in Tulsa. That happened because i was working in co/working space for a year rather than my home office 🙂

Jimmy was often dismissed as a mediocre president, but he was a good man. Did you ever hear me say this? If not, it is a keen observation.

#ReadingBlack to the future: A brave new world of 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), Independent Authors, and Booksellers.
I'm also considering how artificial intelligence (AI) can, or should, be brought to bear in this conversation. There are just so many technologies available today it is min boggling. We should also keep tabs on the emerging metaverse and what that means as well. But back to 5G and IoT, these technologies have the potential to put control back into the hands of the the masses -- in exactly the same way the WWW did before if feel under the control of massive corporations.

What type of leaders do we need?
Agreed, but until doing so is no longer profitable it will never happen in our current system. @Delano it is not so much the leader that matters it is the followers. If the masses are uninformed or worse brain washed they can be easily manipulated by anyone with charm and a way with words. Charisma and the gift of gab are the requisite tools to lead people. This is not will likely change this -- it is in our DNA. If you add either narcissism or celebrity to the mix it is a wrap! Trump has all four as does Oprah. I don't think anyone would argue that Oprah has a least a touch of narcissism, given she is on the cover of every issue of her magazine and always manages to make interviews she does with folks as much about her as the person she is interviewing. People in the community doing the work are usually not narcissists or celebrities, so they work in obscurity. Now they can certainly have an impact, but no one is going to give them a platform without getting something in return ... consider an Al Sharpton or Candice Owens. There appear to be bright spots. I think celebrities like Lebron James will break the mold, and become impactful leaders beholden to no one.

Black Children’s Book Week
Spelman Alumna Launches Global Celebration and Museum for Black Children Nationwide — Spelman alumna Veronica N. Chapman is a social entrepreneur and children’s book author on a mission to help make the world better for Black children. In an effort to achieve this goal, Veronica is launching Black Children’s Book Week (BCBW), a global celebration of Black children and the power of positive representation in children’s books and other media, and an accompanying Virtual Black Children’s Book Museum. “Research shows that when Black children see themselves represented positively in their media, it fortifies their self-esteem and helps protect them from the impact of racism,” says Veronica N. Chapman. “In an ideal world, Black children would get to grow up fully experiencing the joys and protections of childhood and not be dehumanized simply for having melanin-rich skin. Instead, they are often affected by and fully aware of the devastating impacts of racism, which can replace their natural childhood curiosity and zest with anxiety and fear. Black Children’s Book Week is an invitation for everyone to be intentional about making sure Black children feel our love.” Administered by Black Baby Books, a platform founded by Chapman to make it easier to discover children’s books with Black characters, many have responded to her call to action to help “raise the vibration in the world” for Black children. Authors, educators, community advocates and others are organizing events during the week to accomplish this goal. Celebrants include people throughout the United States as well as the United Kingdom, Nigeria, St. Lucia, and Venezuela to name a few. Parents, educators, and all advocates for Black children are invited to join this celebration. To learn more about Black Children’s Book Week and register for events, visit https://blackbabybooks.com/bcbw and follow Black Children’s Book Week on Instagram (@blackchildrensbookweek). You can also hear directly from BCBW event organizers by attending the Virtual Black Children’s Book Museum Grand Opening on February 26, 2022. Visit www.blackchildrensbookmuseum.org to register. For all media inquiries for Veronica N. Chapman, please contact Jonathan Scott: info@boxxout.com. About Black Children’s Book Week Black Children’s Book Week is a global celebration of Black children and the people who ensure Black children are represented in books and other children’s media. Founded by entrepreneur and children’s book author Veronica N. Chapman—and administered by Black Baby Books, LLC, a platform she launched to make it easier to discover children’s books with Black characters—Black Children’s Book Week will start every year on the last Sunday in February.

Thousands may soon be evicted in NYC
@Delano I may taker you up on that... @Pioneer1 and @Stefan you make good points. All you have to do is appeal to people's emotions and fears, then truth, reason, and compassion for other becomes irrelevant. So what can be done about it besides running away to Australia?

CRT has nothing to do with Making White People uncomfortable
Perhaps... I think intelligent people can see through people who are attempting to deceive others -- especially when they are called out on it. Take @daniellegfny's comment about Kap. Of course Kap never called for the killing of police -- that is a stupid notion, no sane person would take. Daniellegfny is willing to say that Kap said this because of some socks Kap apparently wore (I can't tell who is wearing the socks) . It make no sense, but again people can easily see through that. @daniellegfny the data you shared show that Black people are killed by police at a disproportionally higher rate than white people are killed. Which is the point. You say "many are justified" the data does not claim to show that so either you are making that up or have another source of information you have not shared. Why are the "Unknown" figures so high? Are there Black people buried in there too? The killing of Black people is just one measure of how Black people are targeted and more harshly treated by law enforcement. How Many Black are maimed, beaten, locked up or otherwise mis treated by the police. You drive a car in NYC have you ever been pulled over for some BS? Have you never been abused by a cop for no good reason? If not that is great and you are lucky to many others -- liked the more than 1,000 black people killed in the last five years. A number you curiously called minuscule, but the same as killing of of the Black players in the NFL not so miniscle huh?

Thousands may soon be evicted in NYC
You get no argument from me on this. There was technical term that described a cap on my rent increases, but despite that $1,200 annual increases were unsustainable. Should I consider Australia? From your keyboard to God's ears. 🙂 At the end of the day the situation looks pretty dire in NYC as far as middle to low income renters are concerned.

From @Stefan's source, Statista. You have to purchase a subscription to learn where, Statista get their information, but they seem reputable. These figures are rather encouraging, for the industry. But I'd be willing to bet the figures for Black magazine like the old Emerge are dismal. CRT has nothing to do with Making White People uncomfortable
@daniellegfny I followed the link to MSN and found a reference to the following article: "Yes, critical race theory is being taught in public schools" Washington Examiner - Jul 11, 2021 The article opens with the following: While we all debate what critical race theory is and whether lawmakers should ban it from public schools, every honest person should agree on one thing: This theory is behind the curricula in school districts all over the country, shaping the minds of unsuspecting, malleable children. Just this week, the Manhattan Institute’s Christopher Rufo reported that 30 public school districts in 15 states are teaching a book, Not My Idea, that tells readers that “whiteness” leads white people to make deals with the devil for “stolen land, stolen riches, and special favors.” White people get to “mess endlessly with the lives of your friends, neighbors, loved ones, and all fellow humans of color for the purpose of profit,” the book adds. Below is a video of someone reading from the book Not My Idea. Nowhere in the book are the ideas "deals with the devil or even the quotes used. Clearly the article is intended to mislead and get people emotional. Why is just to drive traffic for money. Is it overt racism? Is it an attempt to mobilize the right in advance of the midterms? Clearly, the goal of the article is not to inform the public about what CRT is and how it is being used in the schools The opening sentence is problematic; "...we all debate what critical race theory is..." then in the very same sentence say "...every honest person should agree on one thing: This theory is behind the curricula in school districts all over the country," How can that be possible without a working definition of what CRT is? Still the issue remains, regardless how we label this book, is there a problem with a book like the one below being taught to children (Target Age Group: 7 to 10). This is not a new book and judging by the number of copies on hand with my the counry's larger book distributor it is not a very popular book. What is the problem with this book?

CRT has nothing to do with Making White People uncomfortable
@daniellegfny source really do matter -- a lot. So does critical reading skills. As @Stefan wrote the article does not point out a single school teaching CRT (despite the headline). Did you just do a search without reading the article I actually read the article because it gave some insight into why folks are so bent out shape about this issue. The article was highly inflammatory filled with baseless conclusions. Here is a perfect example from the article "For example, when schools separate out white and black children in different classes, they are teaching children one of CRT’s core presuppositions: that white people, solely by virtue of their skin color, are oppressors, and that black and brown people, solely by virtue of their skin color, are victims — victims of white supremacy and the systemically racist system that prevents people of color (POC) from succeeding in America." In order to support the claim, "...schools separate out white and black children in different classes, they are teaching children one of CRT’s core presuppositions..." they link to a NY Post article: "A black mother is blasting her daughter’s Georgia elementary school for “segregating” African American students to give them “more opportunities” amid a series of controversies tied to critical race theory." Again, none of this suggests CRT is being taught, Who says separating white and black children is a core principle of CRT? Why is right wing media pushing that idea? Who invented the practice of separating of white and Black children? Who why are schools in places like NY more segregated than ever? This is crazy?!

Ebony Magazine is Coming Back
If I had to bet money I think Black Enterprise makes most of it money from their events. The magazine comes across as promotional material for advertisers. I wished they covered more of the stuff that Black people are doing on the web. I really don't know what they are covering nowadays, as I stopped reading the magazine years ago ... sad to admit. I have always promoted their magazine and website. I like magazines like Emerge and American Legacy; I would subscribe to a magazine like those in a heartbeat. I just visited Black Enterprise's website, because I was going to subscribe to the magazine to support it and check it out again. I could not find a place to subscribe. After a bit more research I can find no evidence they are still in print... bit I could also not find anything saying that they are out of print. This article suggests they were struggling to get issues delivered. If anyone knows Black Enterprise's print publication status please share it here.

@TROY - PLEASE PROVIDE YOUR LIST OF APPROVED NEWS SOURCES
@Mzuri you already know you can link to any sources you'd like. There is no need for me to amend my forum rules The issue with my challenging your sources is when you post something that is wrong then back it up with a questionable source. If I have the time I'm gonna challenge it. Have you considered reading a Black-owned newspaper. Again they should not be your only source but if might help give you a perspective that would service you better than the Daily Mail and that other propaganda engine you linked to recently. Here is a list of Black-owned newspapers: https://aalbc.com/newspapers/

Ebony Magazine's September 1963 Issue Was Great!
Hi @richardmurray The disagreement between the likes of Frederick douglass/nat turner/web dubois/booker t washington was between individuals. I'm talking about a people. There certainly was greater unity in the past than there was today. The unity was required for our very survival. Here in Oklahoma I'm aware of many thriving Black towns that existed because white folks refused to let us live in their communities. That does not mean everyone in those communities agreed on everything -- that would be impossible. N=They however agreed on enough to create wealth in the face of constant existential threats. Today it is questionable if we can generate enough unity to maintain a magazine that provided the agency to speaks to our needs and tell out own stories ... and that is sad. So yes I look to the past the lament the lack of solidarity that we had in the past.
