Pioneer1 Posted April 30, 2023 Report Posted April 30, 2023 This is the brother whom Dr. Umar Johnson comes down in the footsteps of. And before Dr. Jawanza.....you had the late great Dr. Amos Wilson.
Troy Posted April 30, 2023 Report Posted April 30, 2023 Yeah Dr. Kunjufu is the 2nd bestselling author of all-time on this site. He has made our bestsellers list 100 times! 40 years ago he understand how Black boys were not being served by our "educational" system. I suspect things have only gotten worse today for Black boys.

umbrarchist Posted December 12, 2024 Report Posted December 12, 2024 Life as a contrarian is so aggravating. His point about peer pressure in 4th grade is interesting then he starts talking about Competition. I was bored out of my skull in 3rd grade and then discovered science fiction in 4th grade. But the nuns NeVeR taught science. I was learning things that the nuns were not teaching and so there was nothing relevant to compete about at school. I think letting White people define education is part of the problem. They cannot make accounting mandatory in high school and then economists fail to discuss the Depreciation of Automobiles for 70 years. The system is designed to screw White people. The Screwing of the Average Man (1974) by David Hapgood
Delano Posted December 14, 2024 Report Posted December 14, 2024 If I can only recommend one book to a person it is Marcus Aurelius's. Meditations. He was a soldier a general and became emperor of Rome. The book is about how to conduct oneself. One of the quote is, "It is better to be straight than straightened." 1

umbrarchist Posted October 22 Report Posted October 22 Sorry dude, I got over 1300 on the SAT and did not study 12 hours per week. I probably read science fiction books more than 12 hours per week. Then I would research stuff I found in sci-fi books. Of course this was before that Star Wars crap!

ProfD Posted October 22 Report Posted October 22 There's never been a shortage of smart, intelligent, gifted, talented Black folks. That's why we Black folks have made it *this* far in the system of racism white supremacy. The *problem* Black folks have is an unwillingness to be less dependent on the system and no desire to break it. No amount of reading or degrees or money will lead to freedom if people are comfortable and complacent in a mental prison.

There is no such thing as freedom there is only power. Freedom simply means that nothing is inhibiting your power. Relevant Knowledge can provide power and money. But money and Wealth are two different things. Not knowing about Planned Obsolescence half-a-century after the Moon Landing is actually funny.

Those dumb nuns NeVeR taught science. If I had not started reading Science Fiction in 4th grade I don't know what would have happened. Maybe I could have murdered a nun or three. My sister told me a nun said, "Science and Religion don't mix." Thinking and religion don't mix. Trash the religion. I figure that if there is a God then He/She/It has a lower opinion of religion than I do. .

That is one of the strangest things that I have ever read. I started teaching myself electronics at home when I was in high school. I went to college for electrical engineering but dropped out after two years. I went to a head hunter and he gave me an electronics test with mechanical aptitude thrown in. He said I made one mistake. But that got me my first full time job at Panasonic. The funny thing is that the chemistry and physics and calculus that I took in college was close to useless. But most people assumed that was where my knowledge came from. There's no shortage of books on every subject. Individuals have to seek out reading material of interest to them. Getting folks interested in reading is the harder part. A love for books and information seems to be an acquired taste. H8ll, most church-going people only open their bible during Sunday service.

DECENT books. There are LOTS of crappy electronics books. I could not select a DECENT chemistry book if my life depended on it. Fortunately, I am not interested.

Poll the rich, wealthy and powerful people in the USA. Many of them have amassed their fortunes in tech industries. Yet, I believe less than 10% of those people knows about planned obsolescence, depreciation, accounting and the moon landing. I'm sure 99.99% of them don't care about it.

That red thing in the thumbnail looks like my first car, a '67 Dodge Dart. But mine was yellow with a black vinyl roof. Bought it used for $1000 in '72. I thought that concave rear window was kind of weird. .
