The "promised" land was 40 acres...for each of us.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s oratory drew from his Christian faith.  The promised land is a metaphorical place.  Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. hoped that Black folks would reach some version of it here in America.  Problem is such a place doesn't exist in the physical realm.

Where America is concerned, the term  "Promised  Land" is  interchangeable with  "the land of opportunity" phrase, both of which are connected with "the Americsn Dream" idea.  All 3 are illusions 

associated with the element of luck

and, of course, white skin.
