I have a few favorites off the top of my heard:

Black History: Lost, Stolen or Strayed (1968)

John Henrik Clarke - A Great and Mighty Walk

I enjoyed the documentary with Bill Cosby in it.
There's a certain "realness" about the Black themed movies and documentaries of the 60s that seemed to have gotten lost by the time the 80s rolled around.

If you want to learn about Africans, all you have to do is come to Western Michigan and THESE Africans here will teach you what you need to know...lol.
We literally have Africans from every single country on the Continent.
And an ABUNDANCE of them from half of those countries.

When I ask some of the older ones why they chose Western Michigan to settle in, most of them gave an interesting answer.
They said it was right between Detroit and Chicago.
2 places with plenty of Black people and major airports....but far enough away from both that you don't have the crime or negative influence of a lot of Black Americans, lol.

My question to Africans and West Indians and South and Central Americans too is why they don't stay and build their home countries.

I already know *why* but after boasting about how *proud* they are to be [insert nationality here], I enjoy listening to them try to explain the  *failures* of their countries and why they can't get sh8t popping over there. 🤣😎

There you go again stealing the thunder on BOTH accounts....lol.

1. When you asked the question in the first sentence, I knew it was rhetorical and I was going to respond that you KNOW why they don't stay and build their own countries...lol.

2. Also, I was going to tell you that I too get  a kick out of standing there with my arms folded listening to them 'splaining why they're still in America 20 and 30 year later after finishing school or accomplishing whatever they said they were here to accomplish and not back home where they claimed they were going.
One excuse after another.

The more I deal with Africans, the more I see the slick and slippery ways of a lot of our own people in them despite the cultural differences...lol.
Every race and ethnic group has their slick and slippery...janky...side.
But it seems like there is some sort of "genetic" blue print for people of African descent regardless of nationality or culture where you find similar behavior traits among us.

Like Black women smacking their lips at eachother in contempt...lol.

Or Black men lowering their voices when they want to attract the woman their talking to...lol.

It is great to have conversations with folks from different countries. First-hand knowledge and perspective.

People are more alike than different regardless of nationality and culture.

Latinas and trailer park white women do the same sh8t.

Hispanic dudes know how to stop yelling and let their gold teef shine when they're trying to get next to a snatch-box.🤣😎

Inherently we are.  Culture exerts a great deal of control in creating differences and even killing each other over them.

Our culture extols mighty individualism other are communal.  I believe we evolved to be communal and are optimized for that behavior and we would be better off if out culture aligned with our nature.

That, and I find women with accents and from foreign cultures exceptionally attractive...lol.

People are more alike than different regardless of nationality and culture.

True.
However some of those differences are so stark and appalling that it overrides any similarities we may share.

I don't care how much we may have in common, if I smell your body odor before I'm even within hearing distance....it's a wrap, lol.

Latinas and trailer park white women do the same sh8t.

I've heard Latinos smack their lips but I haven't see White people male OR female do this.
Or Asians either.

The Africans will tell me about the corrupt leadership and nepotism and other shady dealings that keep their countries from being more successful.😎

Then they do not have a full and clear understanding of what is primarily happening in their own country.....

The causes they list are at most tertiary....if that.

Whatever the reason(s) for failure they are not back *home* trying to fix it.😎

is it possible that they can help fix from abroad?

Anything is possible.  I've got quite a few Africans in my extended family. They build houses and send money back home but otherwise don't appear to be *fixing* a d8mn thing. They're living high on the hog over here.🤣😎

Maybe they  help by not being part of or adding to the problem....

Building houses and sending back money is a good thing....isn't it?

Africans have been sending money back home for decades. Their home countries don't seem to be improving.

Sure...a few more family members are living better.

Greed and corruption and foreigners are still running the show. 😎

True

Not all improvement is always visible...some progress is way too slow

That is good

There lies the problem.....Foreign Intervention

I am not so worried about greed and corription so long as the bulk or greater part of the proceeds stay local

It's almost to the point that it becomes just another form of "welfare" but this time dispersed globally.
In a lot of nations, people with friends and family in the United States almost religiously beg and wait for them to send them money back home for everything including their basic needs.

They no longer force their own governments to provide for them.
Infact, in many cases even their own governments rely almost solely on foreign aid for their sustenance, not production.

You have entire families who are counting on that ONE family member who made it to the United States (probably illegally) and is  working 2 or 3 jobs sending most of the money back to them, while NONE of them are working.

Back in the 1960s, as a middle finger to the the United States, the former USSR (Soviet Union) allowed Africans to study there.  That's how Black folks ended up in that country.

Celebrity Black folks are relatively *welcomed* in Russia.  *Entertainers* get a pass around the world.

American boxer Roy Jones Jr. enjoys visiting Russia.  Of course, American basketball player Brittney Griner was locked up there.🤣

However, as someone mentioned in the video, 1) Black Russians still have a hard time calling it *home* and 2) white Russians see them differently.

Unless the USA, Black folks know their *place* in a country like Russia.  No confusion.  Don't get all dewy-eyed thinking about relocating there.🤣😎

Whenever notable Black Russians are mentioned, it is always the same two people...Abram Gannibal (military leader) and Alexander Pushkin (poet).

Abram Gannibal was born to an African prince.  Gannibal was stolen and eventually presented as a gift to Peter the Great.

Peter the Great became Gannibal's godfather and raised him in Russian nobility. Gannibal was afforded a good life as a result.

Through Gannibal's offspring who became Russian nobility to varying degrees, Alexander Pushkin is his great-grandson.

Pushkin is recognized as Russia's greatest poet.  Otherwise, Black Russian achievement stops almost 200 years ago.

No shade but there no significant amount of accomplishment or wealth among the 50,000 or so Black Russians. They are just there.😎

The Abkhazians or Black Caucasians (sounds Like a Contradiction in terms, facts like these mess with my good friend @Pioneer1 Brain.) Have been in Russia longer than 200 yrs some think they go way back to the time before the Greeks

Lol....actually they ARE a contradiction in terms because Caucasians were named as such because of their physical structure.
The Caucasus mountains were named after the Caucasians who were sent there, not the other way around.

However as suggested, the HISTORY of Black people in the Caucasus area goes back far beyond 200 years or even the Ottoman Empire.
It goes back further than that Colchians also.

The history of Black people in the Caucasus region goes back over 6000 years ago when Caucasians were driven into that region and Black troops were sent there to keep them contained and bound in that mountain range.

The Colchians and other "native" Black tribes of the Caucasus region were the DESCENDANTS of those troops who were stationed there for hundreds of years to keep the Caucasians contained.

As far as my research tells me is that the Africans who became white european where called Grimaldi.

It most cases people are usually named after the land....not the land after the people - now true this is not always the case.

Yes some of this is true to historical texts.....the idea of containment not so sure

Nero Prince was born America. He worked for Czar Alexander I. Not a noteworthy historical figure.

Jean Sagbo was an African who studied in Russia. He became an unpaid councilman in the town he lived. They called him the Russian Obama merely because he was Black. He wasn't a historical figure either.

There are no Black Russians of historical significance similar to AfroAmericans.😎
