Our bestsellers list has been published continuously since 1998 and is the most visible list focused on Black Books in existence. You will learn about books selling well, in the Black community, that may never show up on lists published by corporate entities. Spread the word about our list; don’t let one or two lists, we don’t control, determine which books are important.
Fiction: Runaway Soul by Tiffani Quarles-Sanders is now an 8-time bestseller! Housegirl by Michael Donkor makes its debut on our list at #2.
Nonfiction: The 2001 title, All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks was the overall bestselling book this period. The new memoir, Self-Value: The Story of Me, by Brandon Williams takes the #2 spot
Children’s Books:
Please, Baby, Please by Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, Illustrated by Kadir Nelson and Clayton Byrd Goes Underground by Rita Williams-Garcia, Illustrated by Frank Morrison have made our bestsellers list multiple times and both are on our list of the Top 130+ African-American Children’s Books.
Poetry: One book made our list, for the 2nd time, Furious Flower: African-American Poetry from the Black Arts Movement to the Present edited by Joanne V. Gabbin. This important volume covers the Furious Flower Conference of 1994 which was the largest gathering of African American writers in nearly thirty years. The book also contains performance photographs by C. B. Claiborne.
