  1. Lipstick Alley is one of the best discussion forums. It is currently #20 on my list of the best Black owned websites!
  2. I love it when a good plan comes together... Y'all keep being dazzled by the media but still missing the plot .... Beyoncé surprised free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick with Sports Illustrated‘s Muhammad Ali Legacy Award
  3. I ponder that question question of "supply and demand" often. If it bleeds it leads, sex sells, etc, etc. I'm not convinced the appealing to our baser natures is more profitable because it is what is what we are supplied or because it is what we demand. Of course if you put Cardi B or Minaj's big ass in front of some teenage kid he is going want to see more... Every weekend buildings are filled with people seeking spiritual enlightenment or to grow closer God. Of course their is not shortage of self improvement books... Saying we are just giving people want they want is like big tobacco saying they only sell cigarettes because "people want them." Of course people want them, but they would not want them if the highly addictive products were never manufactured. The fact the cigarettes kill more people than AIDS, murder, suicide, drugs and alcohol combined just makes the whole business so deeply disgusting. The fact we allow people to get rich off these products is criminal. I'm more inclined to believe that we provide whatever it is that is cheapest to produce and generates the most profit. It does not matter if the product is good or even deadly. Profits are the bottom line. This is what makes selling cigarettes perfectly fine, even though we know the manufacturers knew how deadline they were. Fake news is gaining ground on journalism, because it is so very profitable and costs very little to produce. Look, anyone willing to pervert religion and science to justify enslaving Black people for hundreds of years will do anything for money... including making the planet uninhabitable for the human race.
  4. Maybe people have the need to dominate and be dominated. This may be because of self interest. Perhaps people want more and are less interested in eradicating hunger. Rap used to be the voice for the voiceless. Rappers wanted sex, fame, money and cars and a few wanted to educate. In the Furious Five first album Melle does the message. Which is social commentary . in the Funky 4+1 Sharock raps about astrology . So you have a minority rapping about social issues or education. What sells it what people want. Although you could argue that the supply creates the demand. i would say more people aspire to be successful like Trump. Than be a social activist like Sanders.
  5. I'd be interested in seeing "Lipstick Alley's comments posted on the "me, too", movement. Black women seem to be less hysterical about this topic perhaps because they're experienced in standing up for themselves. There was a little local demonstration against harassment on TV yesterday here in Chicago, and i didn't see any black faces among the participants. i made the comment on a FaceBook thread about this subject, and i was unfriended by the black woman who started it because i posed a tongue-in-cheek, truth-seeking question wondering why since, dating back to the "bra-burning" 1960s, Feminists have been touting women as being equal to and on a par with men, how come this strident message didn't inspire women to prove this when it came to dealing with sexual predators? Because i didn't want to appear being too sympathetic toward dirty ol men and perverts, i refrained from further observing that some mention should also be made about the rash of female teachers seducing their underage male students. I guess the idea of women preying on boys for sex is a little hard to fathom. It's also interesting that so many of the men accused of sexual harassment are Jewish. Which kinda reinforces the idea that harassment is really about exerting power, and who has more power, particularly in the entertainment world, than Jews?
  6. How come i'm just seeing all of the preceding comments? I agree with what everybody said. i think i missed the rest of this thread because last week, i was staying over night at a nearby hospital after my daughter carted me off to the emergency room when i complained about "activity" in my chest and shoulders, the closest i could come to describing what i was experiencing. i got so frustrated when the staff kept describing me as being in pain, that my blood pressure spiked to a dangerous level. Once i settled down in the waiting room, distracted by the odd collection of other people waiting, i forgot about the nurse not understanding that it wasn't pain i was experiencing, but was simply - "activity", and when they finally took me in and started monitoring my blood pressure, it dropped way down. That, along with my EKG , blood work and Xrays showing nothing abnormal, I was ready to leave. Not so fast, old lady with Blue Cross federal workers insurance and Medicare. They weren't letting me go home. No sir. The doctor probably wanted to observe me more, because he seemed totally riveted when i told him that i have these episodes from time to time and they were like out-of-body experiences, where everybody's voices sounded faraway, and i felt like i had weights on my feet when i was walking. i don't know whether it was the psycho ward or not that they eventually rolled me into. Anyhow, to make a long story short, the next morning after enjoying a hearty breakfast in bed, and refusing a stress test and a flu shot, they let me go with blood pressure prescriptions as well as one for anti-biotics. I know my blood pressure will spike again when i get the bill. i'm lucky that my insurance and medicare will cover most of it but my premium will probably rise, considering that it is not unusual for an emergency room visit to cost at least 12 thousand dollars! Old age can be a bitch.
