  1. Not sure if you're into Curtis Mayfield but here's a great doc. In my opinion, he created some of THE best soul music that the country ever produced.
  2. @Chevdove and here's a very interesting doc on Robert Johnson. There's also a newer one on Netflix.
  3. We are all still learning I love this era of music ( roughly 1963 to 73, give or take). So many superb sounds and I'm still discovering. A great adventure.
  4. The Stones love of blues was the reason they got together. As for Robert Johnson, he was supposed to have sold his soul to the devil at a crossroads. There's a great doc on him on Netflix. Elmore James was a huge influence on Brian. That slide guitar, man
  5. @Chevdove I know Brian loved Elmore James but I'm not sure if he was from Mississippi or not. Can you remember the other musician ?
  6. While we're at it, this video was very recently uploaded by Reel Black on You Tube. Otis Redding.
  7. @Troy Maybe Memphis might've been better. Maybe, I dunno. Anyway, I found out about this on Roland Martins you tube channel. It looks exciting and is well overdue. I bet the Stax museum was great.
  8. Due to open in Nashville this summer. Will anyone make the trip? Is Nashville the right location as at least to me it's the home of country music ? Does it really matter where it is? https://nmaam.org/
  9. Literally watching the third episode on Netflix at the moment. Extremely interesting. Back soon, folks.
  10. One of Curtis' finest tracks. From his debut album,Curtis.
  11. Virtually finished the above book and will immediately start on this.
  12. Thanks for the info. Very helpful. I hope to make Sisters but will definetly visit the other two that I mentioned.
  13. Troy, contacted you a couple of times regarding the best black owned bookshops in NYC. Perhaps, you didn't receive the messages. Any recommendations ? Revolution and Schomburg seem decent enough. Oh,and Sisters. Thanks.
  14. @Chevdove. The other Stones are well worth looking into. EspeciallyBrian Jones. He formed and named the band in the first place. He died tragically in1969 under mysterious circumstances and id say he was without doubt the most gifted musician in the band.
  15. @Chevdove I know it's a pretty obvious clip but what the hell. Are you into the Stones at all? You know, those little bleeders who stole from black music ha ha. Heres a vid of them covering a great great Stevie Wonder track. https://youtu.be/3G9NqDP_esg
  16. Oh shit, I'm not surprised but I am shocked if that makes sense. For some reason or another, I kind of thought that you and others were safe on here from verbal racism. I've never actually seen any , that's why I assumed it didn't exist. You obviously delete them. But to attack you personally , perhaps vis your email........ These scummy b******s seriously need to get a life. Theres a good few that comment on Karen Hunters and Roland Martins You Tube channels too.
  17. @Kareem You certainly won't be stuck for choice with Baez. Farewell Angelina is a good album.
  18. I do my best. It'll be nice for the guests to actually join up too.
  19. I have faith that the forum will pick up. I've even 'advertised' the place on a couple of You Tube channels.
