  1. Oh don't get me started on street parking @QueenX Poor people, who don't have the benefit or even availability of parking garages, park on the street. Have two outstanding tickets and your car will be booted and towed away -- incurring tow charges, storage fees and more fines! It is really criminal what they do to poor people -- again as you said in residential neighborhoods. Chicago people are going bankrupt, San Francisco, the city famous for people renting driveways so they can sleep in their cars, sells the cars of 4,000 people a year who can't pay tickets. Then of course there are the bogus tickets that are given out -- especially in poorer neighborhoods. Now, in NY City they are putting bike lanes everywhere -- making parking even more difficult. I guess they don't want poor or lower income people to own cars and have some semblance of a happy life - they rather just sell us cigarettes and liquor, and placate us with social media.
  2. Seriously, listen to some right wing news sources -- you'd think 45 is up for a Nobel Peace prize and that the investigation is a witch hunt.
  3. Well the Earth is not trillions of years old indeed the entire the universe is not even close to a trillion years old. I believe current estimates place the Earth's age at roughly 4 billion years, still plenty of time for a far more advanced civilization to have evolved and died. There is no evidence of this but I don't think it can be completely ruled out given the large time scales involved. Then again, I think the pyramids are proof of an ancient and advanced culture. They may not have had iPhones with facebook, but i believe that were advanced in ways we can't understand
  4. Kanye has new music out? Is it any good? People still buy music?
  5. I'm not surprised the album make more money than the film -- it was inspired. K2 summed up the movie quite well. There was a lot of great music from that era...Stevie Wonder, the staple singers, and I really would love to hear Gil Scott's poetry on 45's presidency.
  6. Del you should widen your source of information everything you share just reinforces what you (what we all) want to believe). The reality is Trump is not going anywhere before the end of the year -- even if he is completely guilty. The wheels of justice turn slowly... if at all. Meanwhile time the Warner monopoly has been approved, net neutrality shut down, facebook owns social media and is working on destroying the rest of the web, and colin Kaepernick has been banned from playing football and no one cares
  7. Obviously I listened to the music and the lyrics @Delano, but you know one can craft a justification for just about anything...
  8. @Delano I presume he did it for the money. I dunno, maybe he did not appreciate what the movie was about. Maybe he was not as conscious as you make him out to be...
  9. If you ask me, the only good thing about Superfly was Mayfield's soundtrack for the original film. Kam Williams thinks the reboot is excellent ★★★★ (out of 4 stars): Coincidentally Mayfield's Thinking popped up on my Ipod this afternoon while driving around this afternoon. I find this song very inspirational, in stark contrast to the film.
  10. Yeah, the "flat earthers" are a curious bunch. I, and don't ask me why, watched one of there stupid videos. It was well done but completely full of nonsense. It would only appeal to people who are utterly ignorant, which I presume is a growing demographic given the amount of time we spend on social media.
  11. If it were not Cynique's Corner it might be Pioneers Place or maybe Del's Den or Mel's Manor. Alas however, Cynique's Corner is etched in granite.
  12. Yeah I vaguely remember the site. I'm not sure I realized that you were the one who created it. What is the URL of the one that is currently running?
  13. Well I agree with you @Pioneer1, but I completely understand why people do it. I've created many websites myself, and only two are still active (one minimally so). How many of the websites that you created are still active? Creating a website is easy, making it viable over the long term is not. But to your point the moment we set up shop on a corporate platform we are at their mercy. I call it digital sharecropping.
  14. Ah don't be so hard on folk man. Running a business is hard enough, trying to make a website on top of that can very daunting -- especially if you are poor and uneducated.
  15. At some point the world will end. the sun has a finite life and once it has exhausted it's fuel it will be a wrap for us...in another few billion years. In that amount of time many forms of intelligent life could evolve a go extinct. Maybe one of them will get it right.
  16. Well thanks for the insight. Seems to me there'd be something more interesting to troll about... maybe so.ething a bit more plausible... what are you favorite black forums?
  17. Well the so called "evil white man" has not been around since the beginning of time Indeed for most of recorded human history The Black man flourished. The "evil white man" has only been wreaking havoc for a couple thousand years, and much of this time they were running around killing each other. Just think about the last 150 years; Civil war 800K, WWi 20M, WW2 60M... Sure darker skinned people will almost certainly outlast melanin deficient people, but that is because they are so outnumbered.
  18. The "employment" data is a joke. And yes those fees accrue interest and penalties if not paid in a timely fashion -- making a bad problem worse even insurmountable. I predict crime will start to increase in places like NYC as a result. I could see Black people becoming republican because they are fiscally or socially conservative, but today it is the party of 45...
  19. Hey @ZakiaDivers, I have to tell you this post sounds crazy on it's face. Usually I just delete these types of posts and ban the user, but yours I'll leave. I checked the petition on change.org, and I presume they do some minimal degree of checking so I figured I'd let this one ride against my better judgement... So John Lennon was incredibly racist, huh? Would you care to share a few of the racist things that he did?
  20. MOMMY'S KHMAR by Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow, Illustrated by Ebony Glenn "A Top 130 African-American Children’s Book" I thought this book was sweet. While Muslims make up a relatively tiny portion of Black America's religious community. I think it would be useful not just for children in this religious minority for children outside the group to learn about different aspects of our multifaceted American culture.
  21. @Queen X speaking of poverty, @Kalexander2 raised an interesting point that is rarely discussed: fines. I've lived in the' hood for most of my life and fines are crippling our communities. Over policing and onerous fines leveled against poor people is devastating to many. I could go on all day about parking traffics, traffic violation, littering tickets. White people walk around greenwich village smoking pot in the open, negros in Harlem get run through the system -- don't let it be the weekend you might spend a night in jail.
  22. Poverty, for the descendendants of formerly enslaved people in America is a complex problem. We have been, and are, bombarded by a wide variety of assaults. What I do not is that our poverty will not be alleviated by the actions of out government alone. The government is necessary, but not sufficient to solver poverty in our communities. Black people must to do most of the work. This is a very difficult thing for us to do. This was made crystal clear to me only after I became a business owner. AALBC has lasted more than 20 years only because of my community. If we are to pull the Black community out of poverty we have to be the ones do to it.
