Personal Observations vs Statistics
What about people who have 20/10 vision, who can see thing people with 20/20 can't. How about eagles who can see thing now human can see? No problem I can admit when I'm wrong -- You can't learn otherwise. AGAIN we are not talking about liars or people trying to deceive -- set that aside. Why can't you just admit that your personal observation are worthless when compared to data collected in a poll and certainly a census? This should be obvious...

Time for a New Pope
I read both articles. The Euronews site seems completely unreputable based upon the types of ads it served alone, but seemed to be the best coverage even stating that scholar question the validity of the document. The second website came across more serious (no ads at all), but article didn't even question the prophesy. History tells us there has never been any shortage of end of the world predictions. We do know the world will end, at some point. The best estimates are that this is a few billion years from now. @Pioneer1 what you your personal observations tell you when the world will end?

I remember telling someone a couple of year back (maybe I posted it here) that I look better than Denzel Washington. Now that is a purely subjective opinion, but it’s arguable 🙂 and I don’t have access to all the remediation that rich people do. It seems to me that people do, or can age overnight, but I think in Washington’s case as in most celebrities, we see them in movies in which they were younger and made up to look much better CGI, AI, Photoshop, and then we see them in person or in a current interview and the differences can be stark. have you observed that people age overnight or age gradually was it just a mixed bag?

Personal Observations vs Statistics
Yes, “accurate” is how we define it. The works we observe is simply hire we are capable of perceiving it. Oh, I thought it was about personal observations versus statistics. You’re arguing that personal observations, anecdotes, are better than the days collected from polls and the like. What did I miss? Polls are not just for collecting opinions. Polls collect factual information like age income, etc. But I was incorrect too. A poll is an estimate by sampling a subset of people. Our census is an attempt to collect data from everyone. This does not change my point, however polls and the census both are more valuable than anyone’s personal observations — indeed that is why they are conducted. I have too 🙂

Personal Observations vs Statistics
That is one of the disciplines that studies the human brain and how it can be tricked, we are tricked every single day. Sometimes it’s deliberate and malicious other times was just the way it is. Accurate sight, that is purely a human construct. Different animals can see different wave lengths of light. The differences are just differences accurate is your construct. Going back to the image I shared you look directly at it and see two different colors, even by your own definition of accurate you perceive colors differently uncertain conditions — when you think that you don’t. You’re conflating things and muddling the argument. Of course statistical data can be misinterpreted or patterns can be over looked or seen when none exist, but we’re not talking about that…. Obviously. Haven’t you ever filled out the census? If so, you know they ask a variety of questions. . well, as high praise coming from you.

Tariffs and Inflation...Ahead or Behind in Purchases?
The average person, in this country, is more well off today than they were 100 ago. Perhaps in any time before in this country. Again, you can't rely on your personal observations you can read books about the subject. Again, I can read about it -- I don't have to see it. But I have travelled all over this country and a lot of the world... There are millions of people locked up. It is better than being enslaved. I'm not sure why you are so down on Americans not making it relative to the past. What do you mean by "not making it." Do you mean not living the lifestyles you see on social media (with a huge house, multiple cars, a fine subservient wife, smart athletic kids, exotic vacations, huge bank account, good looks, health... No one has all of that man 😉

Personal Observations vs Statistics
🙂 OH CONTRARE! Marketers use all sorts of tactics to trick, indeed hack, into our minds to manipulate us into engaging into specific behaviors and beliefs. This is old news. It is why I generally avoid social media. People swear they are immune to this, so are resistant to the truth (back to Del's point). The first time I saw the image I could not believe what I was told. I had to print the image cut out the squares only to see they were exactly the same color (I don't know what you mean by "center"). As humans we cannot avoid being tricked by the images or social media. the problem with social media is that the company's are not divulging how they screw with us. The good thing for them is that most people think they can't be manipulated. What?! Man, if you don't know we can't have a conversation on this subject SMH LOL!

OMG!
Sacrilege! Y’all all going to hell. Lord, forgive them for they know not what they do As you know, there are people who would react this way. I often wonder why some people are like that and others are not. I’m sure genetics has a lot to do with it but the environment and how you are reared obviously plays a role too.

I shared things like this before. Do the top and bottom the gray surfaces appear to be the same color to you? The US census is an attempt to count everyone.

I think the web server was struggling earlier in the day. It should be OK now.

Dollar Tree Is Not the Same Anymore
Like now. I have a taste for a hamburger, but I need a tomato, so now I have to get in my car drive to a supermarket to buy a single tomato - a waste of time and gas. So, I'll skip the tomato tonight -- the burger will still be great 🙂 In NYC I would just run downstairs and get one for the corner store (bodega). Now, assuming that had any, it would be double the price the supermarket charged and in questionable condition, but it would have saved me a trip to the supermarket and I'd probably have my burger a tomato tonight if I were in NYC.

😆 Like I said I hope they are doing OK (when I write "they" I always think are people interpreting the person I'm refereeing to a they or a "they"). Maybe I should not have banned them, maybe a time out would have worked but that person was beyond angry...

Yeah some of their row houses front door lead almost into the street. Nah it is like a neighborhood 7-11 but better. You can get prepared food, lottery tickets, beer, potato chips, whatever it will cost more and you better check the expiration date, but in NYC you usually don't have to walk more than a block to hit one so they are convenient. Yeah, nowadays if you are not a student you are not getting into any academic building on a NYC college campus -- Columbia recently blocked off their entire campus... This is not good as these institutions of higher education are increasingly inaccessible to the public: increasingly elitist.

We @aka Contrarian his is in a line of people who have targeted you. I can think of two who were far worse. Both I honestly believe had mental issues and I hope they are doing better now. Recall I banned one from the forum -- perhaps the only regular poster I ever did that to -- in more than a quarter of a century! You wrote that was unnecessary of me, but that person really had gone off the rails with the obscenities. Our friend @Pioneer1 does not rise to that level -- he does even use curse words. As our good @ProfD pointed out the forum comes alive when the fam is a all here 🙂

Dollar Tree Is Not the Same Anymore
I had a row house in Harlem and the people walking by was never a problem as you mentioned. Most of the bodegas are owned by people of Middle Eastern descent. when I was a kid, Black people did own grocery stores but those days are over. my neighborhood grocery store was owned by a black man back in the day he sold pickles out of a barrel in the floor was wooden was saw dust on top of it. He tabulated what you owed by adding everything up on the paper bag with the pencil. Eventually, a Puerto Rican own the place… I don’t know who owns it now doesn’t matter cause I have no reason to step foot into it today. Years ago, I remember Hector macho Camacho dancing in front of the store in front of a red sports car. He was from his Harlem people loved him. Yeah, the Schomburg is worth checking out, but don’t have high expectations is mainly a research library so unless you’re going there to see something specific… They have a book fair every year and have some good programming so I will wait for that if you’re planning a visit.

Personal Observations vs Statistics
That is just factually inaccurate. But it’s hard to convince people who have this belief to believe otherwise. Again, they are not counting unemployment in the way that you defined it so let’s leave that alone. These types of biases are well understood. No reputable poller is going to sample only New York City residence and think that’s representative of the entire country. Again, this is factually not true. Indeed, there is no poll that even attempts to include all Americans. Hey @Pioneer1 imagine a poll in which they ask every other American (basically if the person was not polled themselves, the person right next to them was) ANY question do you think that would be an accurate representative of all Americans?

Mayor Eric Adams Corruption Charges Dropped
What Little I knew of the charges against Eric Adams seemed a bit much. I think what you’re missing is the fact that the charges leveled against him were unwarranted in other words he was set up and the only way he could get out of. It was to do Trump’s bidding. The whole thing was a sham. In any event, Adams wasn’t the best candidate and he’ll likely lose, he had a good run. He should be proud of all he’s accomplished.

Secretary of Defense Still Breaking Protocol
because money is so embedded in the process, I can’t see that ever happening until money is taken out the equation. It literally cost billions to run a presidential campaign. they will, if it serves their needs, which is the most likely outcome.

Personal Observations vs Statistics
Using your reasoning, there is no truth. Do you believe the census figures to be 100% accurate. We all know we can’t possibly be 100% accurate does that make the figures a lie, not the truth? That’s right and the type of samples one collects is important. It would be like trying to call a presidential election by only pulling people in New York City. You need a sufficiently diverse sample set, whether it’s your fictional meal or the voting population. I answered that question I’m contacted all the time for polls. If you’re not being asked your opinion about something, there might be a reason for it 😉 I’m sure he has heard of it, but as he has said, unless the poll includes everyone, the data is a lie, and he is more inclined to trust his own intuition and observations. Did I describe your position accurately @Pioneer1?
