  2. The marketing copy starts out, "Welcome to the long awaited Antidote to the Willie Lynch’s Making of a Slave document." Which sends up red flags considering that letter is a hoax... That said, Black Unity will likely remain a fantasy. The incentives for achieving this goal are all wrong, and the entire culture is aligned in such a way to prevent most of us from being interested in it as a goal. There are are indeed many people, I consider myself one, who find this a goal worth pursuing and actively engaged in it. But the evidence it pretty clear; collectively we aren't willing to make the necessary sacrifices to make Black Unity a reality. I wish I was wrong, and that books like this were unnecessary, but the evidence speaks for itself.
  3. In this case, it appears, the owner simply retired and the store went with her. I guess there was no need for a Go Fund me page; if no one was interested in ensuring the store continued.
  4. Make sure you send me the book cover and ISBN first Brotherman!

  6. I know you have no malintent. So keyword stuff is working for you? Please considering sharing your insights here: https://aalbc.com/tc/forum/14-bloggers-helping-bloggers/ (I'll understand if you don't want to share the strategy publically).
  7. Read Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Article: "Wisconsin's only black-owned bookstore closes, leaving memories — and a void" After 28 years, Carla Allison is retiring and with her, the last black-owned bookstore in Wisconsin closed on Saturday (July 8th). I wonder what percentage of Black Owned Bookstores, or business for that matter, survive their owners?
  8. Yes, we do. Why do you ask?
  9. Hickson, Just an FYI: Google hates keyword stuffing, the practice of loading up a webpage with keywords without meaningful content. This page will be hurt in SEO for that reason. At some point I need to consider the impact on the rest of the websites SEO. While a few pages are not likely to make a difference to AALBC.com, please, for your sake, consider listing the of hashtags only once.
  10. Pioneer is this really a full 90 minute rant? I listened to a good 10 minutes and will probably check out more of the video later. I will also check out breakingbrown.com, a site I never heard of before today. I agree with everything Yvette said in the portion of the video I listened. The point of the clip that you started was exactly what I was talking about when it comes to having a better understanding of people who don't have a lot of money and how much harder it is for them. Of course poor white people have the same problems, but they don't have the additional burden of living a a white racist culture. I think Cynique is right the country does not belong to you, or I. We are allowed to live here (for now). Most often any wealth we accumulate is the result of providing entertainment for the folks who actually do own this country. Of course there are loads of wealthy professionals and entrepreneurs in America, but those success stories are a relative minority in the Black community--for the reasons we all understand. Worse the most successful Black usually give their money and talents to those who really do own the country. These Back folks strive to go to their schools, live in their neighborhoods, and support their businesses (including their websites). If these Black folks become successful enough, they begin to see themselves as different, better even, than other Blacks and they begin to talk down poor Blacks. Bill Cosby famously did this. There is never a shortage of Black folks who condemn the poor for failing to pull themselves out of poverty while failing to recognize the situation that got them there and the conditions that keep them a virtual permanent underclass. What Yvette was talking about was not letting others tell us that we don't belong here, that we have a right to this country, that we have shed blood to earn our place here. The "right" however does not mean that what we have. We have a right to justice, but we don't often get it. @Pioneer1, perhaps your celebration is premature. I think you need to embrace the "fight to become a American." An American who shares equally in the full rights and privileges guaranteed to all of its citizens. An American that shares the wealth more equitably among it citizens. New York City for example, has almost 100 billionaires, but there are countless working Black people who are homeless or struggling to pay rent. While countless apartments sit idle because the wealthy buy them as investments. Nah man, becoming an American is a daily struggle. Some of us think that struggle ended in the 60's after the passing of civil rights legislation... maybe that is our problem.
  11. Maybe you are both right in a way. No, Sara's words did not make me fly into a rage, if words did that to me I would given this forum up long ago. I also knew at the time Cynique did not need defending. Yes Sara crossed the line but it was also the culmination of her behavior that resulted in my action that an chastising her--which was pretty mild reaction. To put his into perspective Sara deleted her posts herself and left. She was not permanently banned. She could post right now if she wanted, but she won't for a bunch of reasons, the main one being is that she can't not tolerate anyone who disagrees with her. But enough about her... Longstoryshort the real issue is content. You give Bill Maher a pass because you like him. You can couch it any way you like, but you have made it very plain that if your boy Bill uses the word in a manner that you subjectively approve it is not a fighting word. I agree with you in this case. Obviously, others disagreed with us in this. Words don't have meaning, only people do.
  12. Yes there is cultural competent to class. Lower class people generally behave differently that middle and upper class people. But when you are struggling financially your behaviors and attitudes necessarily change and not always for the best. I know white folks are hooked up in ways that Black people are not. Even when I was in corporate America I never filled out a job application, beyond my first job, I was always hooked up by someone that knew me and my work. That someone was always white... Networks are important white folks naturally have large more powerful networks. My problem was that I, unnecessarily, limited my network to the Black community. That was a mistake on many levels. but you live, learn and made adjustments. Maybe that is what being American really means, working to embrace the broader community, which maximizes your potential for success.
  13. As part of the on going AALBC.com upgrade effort. I've added a photo gallery to the website. Now a photo gallery is not a big deal to add to a site, but I've been hosting most of my photos on Facebook. Which at the time seemed like a good idea as I could tag people and they could like the photos. Today however I now this was a mistake because now (Jul 9, 2017) Facebook beats AALBC.com on a query I should own, "https://www.google.com/search?q=aalbc+photos." Given the photos I've added to Facebooks, and the lack of organized images on AALBC.com, Facebook should win. I added a Photo Gallery and have added almost 1,000 photos--today alone. I have thousand of more photos. Many of them were taken by my photographer friend, Marcia Wilson of WideVision Photography. We hope to be able to monetize these images by selling prints or digital rights. Ultimately I will delete all of the images from my Facebook page. Unfortunately, I still can't access my Facebook Fan page. It simply times out, There is a set of photos I need to download from Facebook, but I can't access it and I can't find a local copy... Hopefully I'll be able to retrieve those images. 14. The replacement I used for my commenting is called Hashover: http://tildehash.com/?page=hashover Surprisingly I actually getting far more comments than I did with Disqus. I know implementing the software will not be for everyone as it requires more intimate knowledge of and ability to manage one's website...
  15. Here is a comment from TED who appear to be distancing themselves from comments Hancock made during a recent TEDx talk I have not yet watched the video, I plan to watch it this evening. Published on Jun 8, 2016 NOTE from TED: Please be aware that this talk contains outdated and counterfactual assertions, and should not be understood as a representation of modern scholarship on ancient civilizations. If ancient civilizations interest you, TEDx Talks contain many fascinating and well-researched talks such as: Sarah Parcak's talk on space arachaeology at TEDxYale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GKzs... Leslie van Gelder's talk on cave art at TEDxQueenstown: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYGPc... Sarah Kenderdine's talk on museums of the future at TEDxGateway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXhtw... Since 2007, compelling evidence has been published in leading scientific journals confirming that fragments of a disintegrating giant comet struck the earth around 12,800 years ago. The impacts set in motion a mysterious 1,200-year global deep freeze that caused worldwide extinctions of species. Established theories about the emergence of civilization cite the invention of agriculture and monumental architecture some 11,600 years ago—immediately after the freeze. In this controversial presentation, best-selling author Graham Hancock argues that archaeologists, by not accounting for the cataclysm, have gravely misinterpreted history. What the record attests to is not the sudden invention of technology, but a transfer of technology to hunter-gatherers from a more advanced civilization. British writer and journalist, Hancock specialises in unconventional theories involving ancient civilisations, stone monuments or megaliths, altered states of consciousness, ancient myths and astronomical/astrological data from the past. One of the main themes running through many of his books is a posited global connection with a "mother culture" from which he believes all ancient historical civilisations sprang. Graham sees himself as a journalist who asks questions based upon observation and as someone who provides a counterbalance to what he perceives as the "unquestioned" acceptance and support given to orthodox views by the education system, the media, and by society at large. His books have sold more than five million copies worldwide and have been translated to 27 languages.
  16. I've corrected the site: https://aalbc.com/books/pw-award-winning-books.php?year=2017 Keep me posted.
  17. I watched this video last night. I found it very interesting as it pulled together pieces to a puzzle I always found curious. If we look at the Pyramids of Giza, for example, how could we possibly ignore the fact the humanity MUST have known a lot more, in the past, than we recognize. This is more than about failing to recognize the accomplishments of Black people, I don't expect white folks to do that, but clearly in an effort to erase the accomplishments of Black people, we are throwing the baby with the bath water. I also believe our mortally corrupt and inept level of spiritual consciousness is also far behind what ancient an MUST have known. This video below gives evidence. I found the evidence of the flood myth, which I already knew predated the bible and was present in multiple cultures, particularly fascinating. The book below is from the the presenter Graham Hancock.
  18. Hello Paul, congrats on the honor! If I knew they were having the awards I would have attended. Can you post a link to the Harlem Book Fair site so that I can get a list of all the nominees. I'll make sure I'l update the site to reflect all of the books that have been honored for 2017. I have just updated your book: https://aalbc.com/books/bookinfo.php?isbn13=9780692741764 Please let me know if you win. I'll be sure to mention it in my July Newsletter! I also added a prominent buy link to your website.
  19. Upper middle class LOL! You know I sell books to black people for a living don't you? I'm not exactly rolling in the dough over here. I made a colossal financial sacrifice leaving the "big house" to run this site full-time. In fact as an entrepreneur I learned a great deal more about how this country works, how the poor are treated how not having a lot of money really substantially changes your prospects for success in this country I have now a lot more sympathy for people who never made a lot of money and have no realistic prospects for ever doing so. The other problem is most of us derive our financial wealth due to the largess of white folks, we serve at their pleasure for very few of us have the ability to provide real jobs for other black folks. The website's traffic this year will be higher than any year before it. But I will also pay writers less this year at the rate I'm going, it will be less than I have in the last 7 or 8. Google, Amazon, and mainstream publishers are all paying less. Even as an entrepreneur committed to serving black people (or those interested in learning about our culture) my site's survival depends upon the very same corporate entities that I complain about so much. If history is any indicator, the really sad part is that if I relied solely on black folks I doubt the site could survive. I'm working to buck the historical trend but it is exceedingly difficult when you have to compete against the likes of Facebook and Snapchat...
  20. @Delano you are the one who keeps resurrecting this conversation. I've already demonstrated my flexibility; I was originally very skeptical and now I'm no longer. You are the only one who's demonstrated prodigious rigidity in this regard. And true Gore's carbon footprint did not help his cause. You know your statement: "It is very difficult to find people with any willingness to out in the effort to understand this issue." Is actually incredulous because it ignores the entire scientific community! Now if you're looking for lay people like myself then I would understand why you might have difficulty finding people because most of us simply don't have the hubris to reject the findings of the scientific community the way you have. I'm sorry your scores of hours studying this issue is simply not enough to impress me to change my current position on this issue. Still it will continue to baffle me why you believe so strongly that you know more than the planets scientific community. Now as a black person I definitely understand the skepticism. But I see no reason for the majority of the scientific community to lie about this issue. If anything it makes more sense to lie and take the position you have the way our current president has.
  21. Now that you mention it Cynique, I did find service use of the word nigger (funny Google's voice recognition which is quite good refuses to type the word Nigger) in the context she used it insulting and I felt she crossed a line. That was the first time in 20 years that any poster had used language that I felt crossed the line that I can recall. I had to remove some of Kola boof's pictures, but they were almost pornographic and ultimately got the website banned from Google's ad Network anyway just like this conversation might because of the profuse use of the n-word. Pioneer do you think Bill Maher should have lost his program over his use of the word? He is white and he used the n-word on television no less.
  22. Okay using your terminology, "major cause," I took that to mean the majority cause or most of the cause. What do you mean when you say "major cause" do you mean just a little bit, hardly any, barely, or something else when you say "major?" There are more white kids with the problems you associated to the black kids but where is the hand-wringing over the white kids being adversely impacted by gangsta rap? Keep in mind there are plenty of white rappers even ones that might glorify violence or a wild lifestyle like 3Rd Base or Eminem...
  23. I simply disagree. You are saying that if there were no Tupac, all the negativity in the Black community we have associated to Gangster rap would not have existed. Tupac was a solid rap artist, but there are a great many solid rap artists. Now if you say that if gangster rap did not exist at all there would be less dysfunction for the generation of Black youth were reared on this stuff. I'd be willing to say perhaps. But then you'd also have to explain why white boys who buy most of the gangster rap were not, apparently, similarly effected and why many Black men are not.
  24. @Pioneer1 below is a book that you and every American really need to read. We really need to understand the nature of how the country was founded and formed It really was a very gruesome affair not just for Black folks and the indigenous populations, but for poor whites as well. It is helpful to be patriotic as it strengthens a nation, but if you are patriotic without understanding your country, then you are just a fool (not saying you are a fool, just speaking in general).
  25. Del of course I have my own thought on this, indeed this is how my opinions on the matter were formed. The distinction that you are failing to understand on my position is that I don't presume to know more than the scientist who study this stuff. Now of course you can find some folks that dispute this the majority, but my thoughts on the matter tell me that what they have to say is either biased, uninformed, or malicious. When Al Gore first presented this information to the public I was skeptical, today I'm MUCH less skeptical, because the global scientific community has weighed in supporting man made climate change. Do you see the distinction? Fundamentally you've rejected the findings of the scientific community, and I've chosen to accept them. So when you present anecdotal information about unusual weather that means nothing, because the climatologist have already explained this in the context of global climate change. Now if you are unaware of this fact I'd understand why these weather abnormalities would look like evidence again global warming.
