Given the celebrities backing of mute kelly, ava duvernay and others it seems like you might be right @Delano, but that is just how it is covered. If you go by his concert attendance and popularity another story is told. 45 is not exactly wrong when he talks about fake news in the sense that one could get the impression that kelly has been proven guilty of a crime and that the majority of the public is outraged. But this is not the case. Again, I read about this in a newspaper, not on social media so the coverage followed basic rules if journalism.

So I'm watching a 3 hour interview with Walter Mosley, 'cause that's what I do for fun, and he actually shouts out AALBC.com. He even got the site's awkward acronym out (you could see it was a little tough but he did it!). At any rate, this is what we have to do to ensure the viability of our institutions; acknowledge, recommend them, and patronize them. Stay tuned...

Javaka Steptoe read from his award winning children's book Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. I worked with the Queens Public Library on this event. It went really well. Seems like everyone brought a book a few purchased 3 or more. Javaka is a very warm Brother and talented artist. Both f his parent are artists. His father, John Steptoe is also in the site.

I did not do an internet search on R. Kelly. But coincidentally, there was an article in the newspaper yesterday. Apparently all of the criticism against Kelly is hearsay. No convictions. I think before we start trying to destroy the livelihood of others we should have perfect clarity on what they have done.

Sure it was a fluff peace, but who else would cover a meter maid -- make a cover story one it no less. Who knew they were trained in judo? The focus on her attractiveness seems sexist, but that is by today's standards. Today I'm sure, we don't even see them as human, just a tool of the state... Again, we have lost something important. The magazine you are describing the covered politics was Emerge, but they died at least 10 years ago. I not interested in kanyes tweets, and only know of them because every is taking about them, even a buddy of mine who is not active on Twitter asked me about it

Yeah I have to admit after learning more about Constand's behavior the the $3MM this case does not site right with me. I did not even know she willingly took the pills. Sheesh. Again I'm sure it was the testimony by the other women that made the difference. Is Harvey, 45, and all the other dirt bags gong to go to jail too. I think they will put Cosby in Jail. They have to don't they he was convicted.. isn't that how it works?

Astrological Prediction the end of Trump's Presidency
Troy replied to Delano's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
@Verdelle Lambert, maybe the evangelicals see Trump as a means to an end. If @Delano and @Kalexander2 are right, Pence could be president before the year is out. Honestly I'm not too excited about the prospect either... ...They say be careful what you wish for. -
You wrote for Jet in the 60's wow! That sound like Jet's hey day. It seems to me -- I'm to young to really know -- that we have lost so much culturally. Not even Jet survives and it was designed for the masses. Ebony which had great articles is not what it once was. It also seems that so much of what we have left is designed for young adults and geared to towards celebrity, scandalous gossip, and entertainment. Are there any magazines let where one can read serious content for Black people from a Black perspective. I maintain a list of Black owned magazines, and I don;t know of any. I spoke about an article in Ebony the great John A. Williams wrote. As far as I know there is no widely circulated magazine creating content like this today. Now there are magazine create content like this for white folks every day of the week. The best we can do is hope that they cover us -- which is shameful. As result we have not control over what is covered, who is elevated, and how it is presented. We get the ramblings of a Kayne West regularly, but no one knows who John A. Williams is

It might be helpful to explain the problem with R Kelly. In believe there is a video of him urinating on an underage girl? Is this right. If not what specifically did he do that should require us to stop listening to his music? Did he break any laws?

Astrological Prediction the end of Trump's Presidency
Troy replied to Delano's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
My bet was a classic hedge. I win no matter the outcome I'm still not convinced that an evangelical is better than 45. In fact, I would not be surprised if the positioning of Pence was not the plan along. -
I like your longer more thoughtful posts @Delano It takes a cetrain type of person the go to the Paradise Garage any night let alone gay night. :-) There is book that im adding to the site tonight that talks about the village and how it has been changed because artists and the like can no longer afford to live there. This is happening all over the city... it is a shame too because tbe city is losing its distinct character traded in for Starbucks and Amazon home delivery. I let my home serve as a green room for a pride event it really was an incredible event the variety of people who came through was just remarkable.... I know that is a side bar, but your thoughts triggered these memories. Maybe you are a racist; Not a lynch-a-nigger, genocidal racist, but someone who simply perfers others who are more like them maybe it is human nature. But thoughts are one thing and actions are an entirely different thing and you defintely don't behave like a racist. I think that is all that matters

Del it strikes you as odd because you are being unnecessarily closed minded. Dude, the abolitionists, fighting to free the slaves were virtually all white people. John Brown gave his life for the cause. Enslaved Black people were not in a position to advocate for themselves. as free white people. Does this not make sense to you? Also you dont you read some of the literature regarding men an feminism. First you'll discover the dictionary definitions, you often site, don't shed any understanding on a subject.
-
My response was not that long... was it too long for you to read? The answer to both questions is no. My response was an attempt to elaborate on why the questions are irrelevant to the discussion at hand. @Delano, you like to make these debates about me specifically. I'm not purporting to be the appropriate spokesperson for women or feminism -- any more than I can personally provide climate change, the lack of a genetic basis for race, or any of the things that we all take for granted as being true. 1 - You believe that no man can be a feminist. 2 - You believe white people can advocate for Black people. You don't see the contradiction between #1 and #2.

The Story: Yours, Mine and Ours
Troy commented on Mel Hopkins's blog entry in MARKETING IS A 4-LETTER WORD
That would pretty much be anyone with a smart phone. Even tbe senior citizen with all those plastic rewards card attached to their keyring. It is hard not to freely share your information. -
Del, it does not have to be me that speaks for, or advocates for, women. It's not about you or me it's about the general case of excluding any man from the conversation. Surely you must realize there are men out there who would be great warriors for women's rights. There are men who fought for a women's right to vote even when women wouldn't. Some women didn't want the right to vote felt it was a man's job. Indeed, there are women who still feel that way today. There are men right now who are fighting for women's right to choose. And there are women who are fighting to stop all women from having an abortion. Again just because you have a penis does it make you ineligible to understand or fight for rights for women. This seems obvious to me and I'm not even sure why you're debating it with me. Of course there are ultra-feminists that would agree with your position and probably would eliminate all men if it were biologically possible for them to procreate without us but again they are the extreme. Again it's like saying you don't want white people creating cartoons, like the one you shared, advocating for black people because they are not black. Naturally there are the Uber-Black folks who don't want white folks advocating for them. But they too are extreme, in the minority, and unnecessarily narrow minded.

Very well presented. I'm curious why you discontinued the magazine. Speaking of magazines do you think Jet Magazine's business model was no longer viable? Please email troy@aalbc.com a head shot. Do you have a website? Post the link. I'm not sure I get your poem. I understand how pearls are formed in nature. But obviously this is a metaphor for something else. Is it a woman living with the man who is overprotective?

Astrological Prediction the end of Trump's Presidency
Troy replied to Delano's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
Thank you kalexander good luck to both you and Del for more reasons than the 50 bucks. Pence is not part of the bet, nor is 45 not finishing his term because of death from whatever cause. -
This cartoon illustrates my point perfectly @Delano The cartoon is brilliant, communicating the hypocrisy dramatically. The cartoonist Drew Sheneman is a white guy. His insight is on point and communicated in a manner that I and I suspect most other Black people would be unable to. Saying Drew can;t be part of the conversation because his white, I again is limiting. I'm glad you shared this cartoon, because you clearly understand and agree with what I'm saying, even if you are not prepared to admit it now. "It's a Black thing, but a white man can understand."

Yes of course the prison industrial complex will be an alternative for some. Of course there is genocide too. Not the kind of genocide where you herd people into ovens, but you gun them down for minor infractions, provide poor medical service, pollute the water supply, and limit access to fresh produce, while making processed food a cigarettes widely available. Has anyone ever asked why so many Black women are obese and why we just accept diabetes and hypertension as just a fact of life?

OK I have $100 on the line. $50 to @Kalexander2 and $50 to @Delano Gentlemen, I admire and somewhat envy your faith in the wheels of justice. I hope when you lose you don't become too jaded. -
Astrological Prediction the end of Trump's Presidency
Troy replied to Delano's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
Wait, what? I have a another live one @Kalexander2, the bet is 45 will not finish the year (December 31st 2018) as president. Shoot the midterms are in November -- I'll give you until the end of the year. Bet? I may need to find a way to hold these bets in escrow. @Delano, to be crystal; we are not talking about some Clinton type impeachment (which won't happen either). We are talking about 45 being out of office and Pence is now president before end end of the year, right? -
If the rents are tripled in the projects I don't know what they are going to do with all the people who live there now. In New York City there are no viable alternative for people living in federally subsidized housing. We need more projects not less in places like New York, the capitalist system is not working for great numbers of people. The schools in these communities were gutted generations ago. White people, and even some middle class Black folks, in Harlem just want to projects leveled and don't care what happens to the people. I dunno, maybe we can just put them on a reservation somewhere, out of the way, like some desert in Arizona. Or maybe send them back to Africa...

Bill Cosby is now a convicted felon. Up next Harvey Weinstein on deck Tom Brokaw. Seriously, does anyone thing any of these rich white does will feel the weight of the criminal justice system? You will the system used the "Just-Us" system as always.

So @Delano, do the female feminists have a right to fight against the clothing some muslim women wear? Being narrow minded is not an option that I would ever choose. My default position is not one of understanding, but of one trying to learn. We are all unique -- even women are not a monolith and given the same information we will conclude different things -- not even all women will agree. I believe the best decisions do not come from individuals but through the senthesis of our collective wisdom. Of course I understand the reality is that sharing your wisdom rarely happens, because it is hard. Plus there are people, like you, who don't even believe it should be done. Then there are people who fight against this for reasons of power and control.

Alright! That's what's up! , This is win-win for me cause i'd pay to see that guy with the weird hairdo get the boot. Plus in the extremely unlikely event that you win @Delano, not only will you get $50 I'll never question your astrological prowess gansta
