  1. Given that he is an ex-president with the best health care imaginable Trump may outlive us both 🙂 How about I give you 4 to 1 ($100 to your $25) that Trump does no time in prison before the end of 2024? That does not include house arrest.
  2. Yes. Despite all the misleading statements you made. We can make it simple and just boil it down to life expectancy. The life expectancy of a Black person in America had almost doubled in the last 100 years. Of course, the quality of life, the amount of leisure time, and the variety of diversions we have access to has increased dramatically as well. It is like we have been blessed with an additional higher quality life compared to Black people from just 100 years ago. That is not to say that this trajectory will continue with climate change. On the heels of Covid, Opioids, and mass shootings a year or two has been knocked off the life expectancy of Americans, but we are still FAR better off today than 100 years ago.
  3. I've been asking women who they found more sexy Idris Elba (masculine) or Prince (feminine). Surprisingly (to me) Prince ranks higher. Sure this is anecdotal, but nonetheless interesting. I thought my pop culture quote was low @Chevdove Lil Nas X gained a great deal of popularity he & Billy Ray Cyrus won a Best Music Video Of The Year in 2020.
  4. I use the word "conscious" as opposed to "woke." You are right @Pioneer1 the word has been co-opted by right-wing extremists who have perverted the idea into ridiculing so-called left-wing extremism. The sentiment of my post was intended to reflect the confusion or lack of resonance, I feel for these terms, hence the "Black Misery" quote.
  5. Black Misery Is... Believing you are woke, but realizing you are fast asleep. 😉 I was collecting information about a literary magazine, Brown Sugar, that I plan on adding to the site when I discovered this description: “Brown Sugar is a womanist literary magazine for women, womxn, and womyn of color, of any nationality, sexuality, religion, or cultural diasporas that are misrepresented and underrepresented.” I've seen womyn before but, womxn was a new one on me. My understanding of what I thought womyn meant seemed to preclude the need for womxn. Obviously I was wrong. Issues of gender, transphobia, sexism collide to create plays on words that aren't universally understood or even accepted by the people in the communities that are supposed to benefit, let alone the general public. It is like the Negro/Black/Afro-American/African-American debate but far more confusing (at least to me). Seeking additional understanding I discovered “Myn,” gave up and moved on to another activity....
  6. Hey @Delano, lets define a time boundary and you have a bet. Does before the end of 2024 work for you?
  7. Actually all of these ills have been greatly reduced especially in America. Compare America of 1823 or even 1923 with 2023. The same improvement is true for the rest of the world. Interracial marriage was once described as the mongrel mixing of the races. It was a against the law in many states. A Black man could be lynched for looking sideways at a white woman. Did white men stop "protecting" their women, or they just grow up. Today black and white people top the list of interracial marriages. This freedom makes the world a better place.
  8. You know our media. if Clinton was still getting head from young women or if Obama started grabbing the genitalia of random women they would be both all over the media too. It took Carter being at death's door to get any ink. It seems unlikely that 45 will do any time for the Stormy Daniels affair. The likelihood of him doing time for this charge, or any in the future, seems small, but it far from zero. Vegas does not think Trump will go to jail. DONALD TRUMP TO BE SENTENCED TO JAIL? ODDS Yes +600 No -1500 6.25% is the implied probability that he will go to jail. No is the "favorite," and you'd have to bet $1,500 win $100, or you can bet $100 to win $600 (I'd take that bet 🙂).
  9. Just a few minutes ago I added a book to the site, C Is for Country by Lil Nas X. I have not seen the physical book, but after living in Oklahoma for a year and a half and attending my first Black rodeo, I learned there is what I'll call a modern "horse culture" that I did not recall seeing in a children's books, and felt it was important to have this book added to the site. I discovered C Is for Country after learning more about the book illustrator, Theodore Taylor III. Theo is a prolific children's book illustrator whose work was inadequately reflected on this site given his contributions to Black children's literature. I was already familiar with Lil Nas X as a result of Grammy award winning song Old Town Road I added the Video to Lil Nas' page. This video was queued up next the preview thumb nail image (shown below) stuck me. I was like WTF is this?! The Old Town Road video did not reflect anything that the video YouTube queued up video preview suggested. When videos are added to YouTube you can define the preview image and it is obvious this preview image was selected to attract attention, bolstered by Google's algorithm the video has been viewed over 430 million times in the past year. Interestingly, the video has also raised more that $77K for the The Bail Project. I could not help but think of @Pioneer1 theories when watching the video. I'm also curious to read what people think about the shower scene in this music video. It seems gratuitous, though I assume gay men might disagree... What do you women think?
  10. Well @Pioneer1 complaining about the situation has obviously not done anything to change things. Why do you think men bitching about it would have a different effect? Still, the fundamental issue is why do you care so much about who other people choose to love or spend their lives with. Why do you believe they should conform to you standard?
  11. The reason is because he doesn't In 1823 yeah, but in 2023 not so much... No need for me to add anything here @ProfD and @frankster said it all 😉 @Pioneer1 when I review the data shared by Frankster and using your "logic," it would appear it is Black women who should be displaying more jealously. Black men marry white women at twice the rate the Black women marry white men. In fact Black men marrying white women is the second highest rate of "interracial" marriage, only exceeded by white men and Asian women.
  12. I agree but I's also add, though it might sound contradictory, self-interest. People who act in both their collective and self-interest maximize not only their own outcomes but those of the group. Structure, as long as it is flexible, can help. No, the web did not start out this way, nor was it designed to work this way. A hand full of monopoly-like websites, through sophisticated profit-driven algorithms, largely determine what we see on the web. Serendipity is controlled. you have to first be aware of the silo effect (filter bubble), then actively work around it. This is not trivial and most people don't do this. They consume what is feed to them. The web was much more collaborative. Consider, how many sites I link to from AALBC, like Ebony. I do this because it drives traffic to my site by helping other people discover sites they might not have discovered otherwise. This in turn help promote sites like Ebony (self-interest+collective-interest). You will not anything about AALBC on Ebony's site. The web is broken today it is optimized to benefit the largest sites. Bridgeman seems to be invested in growing Ebony. I read on Bloomberg that he tried to buy the bankrupt Black TV network Byron Allen ended up purchasing. All media plays are a challenge now. It seems like anything conscious is a virtually impossible. I'm trying, we will see what happens.
  13. @richardmurray I missed your reply last year. I think unity is actually more important than an organization -- it is the foundation of all organizations. We have plenty of organizations now, but a lack of unity constrains the effectiveness of our organizations. Organizations need support from not only their members but from supporters and the community at large. It looks like Ebony is back in digital form. As the recent cover images suggest, the focus is on celebrity and to a lesser extent sex. @Pioneer1 you will love the digital cover image of Janelle Monáe (OMG!). The images were great, but nothing drew me into actually reading any of the content. This may be a function of the website's design making it hard to find more substantiative content. The advertisements on Ebony's site really hurt the experience of visiting their site. This is a problem I'm working to address on this site. The “Negro in Literature Today” article which prompted the start of this conversation back in 2014 is nowhere to be found?! I don't get it. Google has 49 years of Ebony's magazines (November 1959 to December 2008) available on their website for free! If someone can explain to me how Google can publish Ebony's back issues while the current owners of Ebony do not I'm all ears. According to Wikipedia (no time really research this), Ebony magazine was founded in 1945 by John H. Johnson. The Spring 2019 issue was the last to be printed. The issue featured Diana Ross who must have appeared on the cover of Ebony at least a dozen times previously. After 71 years, in June 2016, Johnson Publishing sold both Ebony and Jet, another Johnson publication, to a private equity firm called Clear View Group. The new publisher is known as Ebony Media Corporation. After the publication went bankrupt in July 2020, it was purchased for $14 million by Junior Bridgeman in December 2020. Also from Wikipedia: Bridgeman (born September 17, 1953) is an American businessman and former professional basketball player. Bridgeman played in the National Basketball League (NBA) for twelve years from 1975 until 1987, beginning with the Milwaukee Bucks. Bridgeman is the current owner of Ebony and Jet magazines. Despite never making more than $350,000 a season during his NBA career, Bridgeman has a net worth of over $600 million, making him one of the wealthiest former athletes in the world. I like this guy! In March 2021, the magazine relaunched in digital format. I'm somewhat surprised that I knew nothing about Ebony's relaunch despite actively monitoring Black-owned websites and maintaining a list of the "Top 50 Black-Owned Websites." The web is increasingly more siloed than ever. I have updated my site with Ebony's updated information.
  14. Pred007 leans away from his hand-me-down laptop. Interlocking his stubbly fingers across a stomach that reveals far too many trips to the all-you-can-eat buffet. A sly grim creeps across his face. He is pleased. @Chevdove and @Pioneer1 are arguing … mission accomplished, Pioneer why push Chev’d buttons? Chev why let anything says upset you? Clearly Prof007 is not interested i in doing anything different than what he is doing now. He/She/They is probably having a good time. I guess there is no place for the like of Pred007
  15. It is his “swagger,” his bracelets, his accent. he is definitely more ‘hood. unlike Dinkins who was more Boule than Brownsville
  16. I had to look up Drill Music too @Chevdove. After listening to a couple of songs there was nothing I could identify, sonically, that was particularly distinguishing from the rest of the rap out there. I guess I will have to do some more research to learn what to listen for. Is there an icon Drill music song or artist? You know like Chuck Brown for Go-Go? Eric Adams should arguably be described as a hip-hop mayor, though his years in a leadership role of the Po-Po, would always make him suspect though...
  17. So @Pioneer1 based upon your own contradictory statement from 2016: “I've never been lazy but I used to be fat (40% body fat) in my younger days but decided to eat right and exercise in order to lose weight and impress a woman I was working with...” —Pioneer1 Considering that your own body type has changed, I'm sure if you were honest with yourself and took sometime to consider it, you would come up with more than a "few" personal examples of people whose body types have changed over the years.
  18. This show is a "mockumentary" and looks like comedic farce -- probably very interesting social commentary mixed in
  19. Come on man she would be the queen! 😍
  20. Troy replied to Chasitie's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
Pioneer! In another conversation you wrote you were slim 2 your life! Did you get caught in a lie?! Say it ain’t so!
  21. women this can’t possibly be true… Is it? I heard women like a little thug in their men… @Pioneer1 it is hard to know if a woman sleeps around. If you get into her pants quickly you can probably assume she does. however i see you don’t define a slut based upon the number of sexual partners a woman has had, but based upon her behavior. is a hooker a slut? Can a man be a slut? @SpeakHerTruth thanks for sharing your experiences/thoughts.
  22. Why is paying some hooker to keep her mouth shut a crime anyway. It wasn’ta crime to pay her to open it? Trumps “threats” would go no where if the media didn’t repeat them like some teenage school girls i(I know the school girl reference is sexiest today) we would be talking about them now…,
  23. Being “big boned” Is just slang for a “heavy set” person has nothing to do with actual human physiology. @Pioneer1 in your long life have you no recollection of a very petite woman who over the years became really fat? Do you think her bones actually got bigger, denser, or harder.? As women are their bones tend to get less dense. Marketers target Americans with increasingly unhealthy foods. before there were fast food restaurants on every corner e we’re not nearly as obese. Then the same market er turnaround to sell your products and gimmicks to help you lose the weight they contributed to helping you gain. they also created a industry of self-help gurus who help obese women (usually women) come to terms with their new bigger body). Women are targeted more than men. It is really amazing any Black women in America has their sanity. kids seem to spend more time behind a screen that they do on the playground. obesity is as American as extra large slice of apple pie
  24. Where on the Black color spectrum do it fall? Am i more light skinned or dark skinned. @Pioneer1 would i be one of those men The women you know that would want to have a baby with? Some one recently designed me as light skinned. i hate to admit it, but i was a little offended, it made no sense, but on some level i felt like they were questioning my Blackness… maybe they were dunno. I Having to contemplate that and even defend against is not anything one should have to go through. For the first time i cold image how a biracial people must navigate through life in s daily basis. How can we expect so called white people not to judge us on skin color when we do it ourselves.
  25. Where are you getting this data? It sounds like it is based upon your observations and opinions. Which are fine to express, but they are just opinions. The behaviors of a free celebrities can’t be extended to the entire population. people pair up for a wide variety of reasons I’m not sure how high on the list skin color is. Is skin color a primary consideration for you? It is not for me.
