  1. 1 point
I have not seen much information on the victims. They are looking to charge the guy with some form of terrorism. As part of the conditioning process, angry black folks instinctively know better than to snap or be willing to face severe consequences. Otherwise, the aforementioned panaceas usually suffice. I believe this fella was on a mission to get 1st class accommodations at Riker's Island bed & breakfast. 😁😎
  2. Of course Emmitt Till was "lynched." @Stefan just an FYI. Ginzburg's book is available on AALBC. I can tell you grabbed the photo from Amazon, or a site that copied it from Amazon (because Amazon puts the "copyrighted material" on most of the book covers on it site). I like to think of AALBC as a resource for books important to the Black community whether they are in print of not. Black Classic Press has chosen to keep this title in print. So please use the site as a reference and if an important book is not here please share it with us here and I'll more sure the book is in our database. Also if you but the book from an AALBC, everyone involved with the production of the book makes more money than if the book is sold on Amazon. 100 Years of Lynchings by Ralph Ginzburg ADD TO CART Publication Date: Nov 22, 1996 List Price: $14.95 Format: Paperback, 270 pages Classification: Nonfiction ISBN13: 9780933121188 Imprint: Black Classic Press Borrow from Library Paperback Description: Ginzburg compiles vivid newspaper accounts from 1886 to 1960 to provide insight and understanding of the history of racial violence.
  3. The notion that Blacks should form their own political party has been around for since Hillary lost to Trump. Generally, I’d say the Democratic Party has been better for Black America than the GOP. For most of U.S. history, the Republican Party had a stranglehold on the Black vote. But after racist Whites in the South defected to the GOP in the 1960's and the early ’70s, the Democratic Party became the party of Black America. This switch actually began 1948. Blacks favoring Democrats culminated in the election of Barack Obama in 2008 and his re-election four years later. Despite Obama preventing the country from sliding into a Depression and passing the Affordable Care Act, for the most part, things did not improve for the majority of Blacks. Well, there’s always the GOP, the party of Voter Suppression, States’ Rights and White Supremacy. And of course, Trump, who is a modern buffoonish version of Benito Mussolini. With an-all Black political party, our people might be able to really put some pressure on both major parties to do our bidding. But there’s a catch. Now, we may never be able to match the wealth or media domination of AIPAC, the political action committee that fronts for Israel. Or be equal with other high-pressure groups such as the various LGBT lobbyists. Money talks in Washington, D.C., and as a group, Blacks do not have much of it to donate to politicians. Most our disposable income is earmarked for essentials, such as housing rent, food, transportation and medical care. Our power has always been in The Vote. But that power has been diminished by Voter Suppression and our own in-fighting. Closing the racial wealth gap cannot be done without heavy and progressive taxing of the richest in the U.S. Still, creating a workable and sustainable Black political party will be a start.
  4. I totally agree that Will Smith's behavior at the Oscar's ceremony was uncalled for. His blubbering Oscar winning acceptance speech didn't redeem him at all. He just threw himself a pity party and failed in his self serving attempt to do damage control. Nor is Jada a sympathetic character in the drama. She is not ill and i question how severe her alopecia is. I wouldn't be surprised if she is just experiencing the hair loss that often afflicts middle aged women on the brink of menopause, a condition attributed to hormonal activity. In any case, If she can't deal with the observations about her shaved head, she should just wear a wig and keep on truckin'. And of course social media is rampant with rumor and gossip, and the usual brigade of skeptics claiming they are too smart to be taken in by this charade and that, for some unfathomable reason, this incident between Will and Chris was all "staged". Whatever. Who cares? Anything is better than hearing the hour by hour account of what's happening in Ukraine. I am a widow but if I did find myself in the described situation, I'd probably just grunt and do the black woman eye roll that's been known to vaporize antagonists . I'd also restrain my significant other if he wanted to make a scene. BTW, I actually thought Chris' reference to G.I. Jane was funny. And not an insult. I've seen that movie starring Demi Moore several times on TV, and G.I. Jane was a strong, courageous woman trying to make the grade as the first female to become a Navy Seal. That was why she shaved her head. Much ado about nothin - that will go down in history...
