One of AALBC's best kept secrets..........
I'm glad you made that clarification. A war against white folks, in this country, would include the police forces, the US military, and every racist group you can name, would be suicide. This is obviously true. Pan Africanism is so potentially powerful, but our best and brightest still want to work for a Facebook and Google and live in the west. Look, we view going to Harvard more prestigious than going to Spelman. We view being covered by, or writing for, a white publication better than being covered by or writing for a Black one. We view winning an Academy Award more of an honor that winning an Image Award. Why? We will watch our daily newspapers turn into weekly and go out of business without batting an eye. What was the lasty Black-owned magazine that you've subscribed too? Even if magazines are passe, which web platforms do you support financially? Here is the kicker, once white folks start supporting a Black business then here comes the Black support... Am I wrong?

The. Woman. King. New. Movie.
I agree, but obviously Somebody, though he served a purpose. Clearly that purpose escapes both of us. Perhaps @Pioneer1 will enlighten us Again I think they are just trying to be inclusive because it bring in more revenue. I can remember when there were virtually no Black people on broadcast TV and I sure when they staring having Blacks on TV some white people went crazy too... You do this everyday you walk our your door or turn on a screen. Again, everything you say against the film is meaningless as you have not seen it. Once you see it then we can have a proper conversation about it. Aw come on man, look I'm sure a few white boys tried to stick their penises inside whatever canine were around then, but to suggest that is was a regular practice is outrageous. Hummm where are you getting this information? Oral sex goes back throughout recorded history and in all cultures.

I Tried To Warn The Brutha But.......
It would be really interesting to heard the terminated brother's side of the story and well as what the boss who canned him have to say about why he was left go. I agree with the Honorable Elijah Muhammad on do for self. But you can't do for self alone.

I Tried To Warn The Brutha But.......
This is very true, but there has to be some commercial value in that thing you love to do and that is the tricky part. I used to know a guy who billed himself as the "Passion Profit." He used to help people turn their passions into businesses. He believed anything you loved to do could be turned into a business.

I Tried To Warn The Brutha But.......
Honestly, the difference in the way I was treated and my white peers were treated was the reason I left corporate America. It takes time to learn to play the game and for some it is not worth it. Even after you master it, you may come to realize it is not worth it. It is no different than working any job you dislike until you can qualify for a pension and social security and quit. For many that is the only choice,' It is a blessing to have a job that you actually like and one for which you do not have to sell out or compromise your personal values. Here is another example of a Black woman in publishing who was fired, without notice and apparently without cause. She worked for Amistad (an AALBC sponsor). Amistad was an independent publishing house founded by a Brother until it was purchased by HarperCollins. I share this story here because it publicly shared Twitter. I learned about this when a journalist shared it with me looking for a comment (I had none): https://twitter.com/jbakernyc/status/1569332752889028608

The. Woman. King. New. Movie.
I had not considered the comedic aspect, but making fun of gay dude like that is so politically incorrect I can't imagine that was the reason, but I hear you. Still his character was a minor one an impacts very little on the overall film. The gay dude was not so unbelievable as Voila Davis, a woman in her deep 50s, kicking the killing a bigger mike-tyson-looking male warrior in hand-to-hand combat. The same goes for the prepubescent-looking girl... Still I was able to suspend disbelief, because it was well done. After seeing the film, I think it is more of a positive, than a negative, for Black culture. It is hard to image why Black people would trash the film. Now I can see why white people would do so. The few who were in it were soundly demonized and brutally murdered. @Pioneer1 if you ever actually watch the movie, it would be interesting to see if you are willing soften your harsh critique.

What are the chances of Trump going to prison.
I think t Trump's hypocrisies have already been exposed, but it does not seem to matter to his supporters. Indeed it is a badge of honor given Trump's great successes.

The. Woman. King. New. Movie.
Agreed, while homie was flaming he had a dignity… maybe they were just ticking off another demographic-we-gotta-appeal to box… @ProfD do you believe the film will be nominated for an i Oscar? Do you believe it deserves the accolade?

One of AALBC's best kept secrets..........
@Pioneer1 sure, many of our people have an appetite for ridiculous entertainment. But that is not a black thing is all part of our (American) culture. I also believe there is plenty of demand for more serious and intelligent conversation on the web. The problem is Black people generally go to white platforms for this and engage in a there, ala “Black Twitter.” I always start a that we will seek out their platforms, put at the end of the day we desire their validation. We desire the validation because once we have it that is when the wealth and celebrity becomes possible. The truth of the matter is, we don’t need their validation, but we give them the power. And I guess that’s the result of hundreds of years of indoctrination. so if your goal is celebrity and money you go to tictok or Instagram. But if your goal is to actually support black people and our independence on the web you engage and support sites like AALBC. It really is that simple.

What are the chances of Trump going to prison.
This might sound like a conspiracy theory, but after running a forum continuously longer than anyone I know, I do believe that are people who deliberately create descent in an effort to hurt Black indie forums. This is not just regular mischievous trolling, but trolling with a specific intent to hurt Black-owned properties. We he can't pardon Trump on the charges the NY State charges (as far as I know). Regarding bets on 45 being 47 or getting locked up I'd say "pick em,'" it is a toss-up. I do believe Trump will be convicted of something, but again, I'd flip on coin on whether that lands him in prison.

The. Woman. King. New. Movie.
Again, the film was fiction. Plus, you can't insert modern sensibilities into that culture. Also you know that the only people having sex on the palace grounds was the king and his wives. The men were eunuchs the rest were celebrate warriors.

The. Woman. King. New. Movie.
OK a couple hours ago I watched the woman King. It is simply the best movie I’ve seen in a long time. I would bet money it will be nominated for an Academy award for best film. it was a very entertaining movie. Well done on all levels. Again I am not watching a documentary and I understand it was for entertainment and again they did a great job. The notion that the movie is a hit job on black men is really ridiculous. The film was far better than black panther. By the way @Pioneer1I did not know that the Wakanda salute was based on an Egyptian practice. I’ll have to look that up.
-
The. Woman. King. New. Movie.
interestingly, the idea that a couple of white boys made up black Panther did not bother me for decades until after the movie was made and black people started running around acting like this was actual black history giving the Wakanda salute even going so far as to bitch, if it was done incorrectly (right arm over left). No we have a film actually based on historical fact — however loosely and people want to raise a hissy fit. What makes the Women Kling so much worse than Black Panther?

ProfD Help Me Out.......
we incur this as a consequence of living here. I’m not really aware of a place you can go to fully escape it. I disagree because, and this should be obvious, not every white personal is trying to demasculate me or anyone else. You’ll make yourself crazy finding boogie men everywhere. ****** A girl, Joy Rose Johnson. Engaged.

ProfD Help Me Out.......
@Pioneer1 I listened to the whole video you posted, there was no new information above what you have previously shared. If the devil is covert, as the minister stated. Why would everything be revealed to Farrakhan about how to conspire against Black people? Again, I don’t buy it. I think you give white people, Jews, in particular, too much credit. Still if I believed everything, the brother said, what are we gonna do about it? Surely this film is the least of our worries, wouldn’t you argue? Yes, I have 7 month old 🙂 R.I.P Ava Muhammad (I don’t know)

Troy, where you at.......
Side bar: Interestingly i posted that alligator video, from my phone, on YouTube just to allow it to be easily shared here. In the 8 hours it has been up it has been viewed over 26,600 times! I never posted a video that has been viewed that many times in such a short period of time. Those views don’t even count the ones here (YouTube only counts the ones on their site). Now I’ve posted professionally produced videos that I have worked to promote, but this throw away video beat them all. Let’s see what happens on TikTok 🙂 Will these videos drive traffic to the site? Will the 31 new subscribers be interested The the videos i normally post?

ProfD Help Me Out.......
yes. Why that is not obvious to you is lost on me. really? who has time for this man? The movie has to appeal to people outside the US otherwise it would not have been made? I have not seen it yet. I tried to see it today but they would not let my 7-month old into the theater. the film is universally liked by people people who have actually seen it. comparing The Woman King to Birth of a nation is silly. I would bet money you have not seen that film either. How can you feel so comfortable trashing a film you have not seen?

@L-Ouverture, I’m sorry you feel that way, but after 25 years of dealing in the book world. I can understand why you might feel that way. Truth be told, I’m not aware of anyone doing what i do, so I’m on an island of sorts myself. I see your store is on my list of Black-owned bookstores: https://aalbc.com/bookstores/store.php?store_name=L%26rsquo%3Bouverturebooks.com, so you are not entirely on an island by yourself 🙂 There is group of Black bookstore owners who meet once a month, I believe, maybe you can connect with them. Reach out to Ramunda Young at Mahogany Books. Do you have any specific questions or concerns?

ProfD Help Me Out.......
Have you seen the film? This question is profoundly ridiculous. Did you ever read about African female warriors? Start with Carter G. Woodson's African Heroes and Heroines @Pioneer1 Are you reading this? Oh, that is an easy one to answer. I did. I also don't think Black Trump supporters are all "dumb" or racist either. In fact, believing a Black Trump supporter is dumb completely misses, and dismisses, the reasoning for their support. See "Why Black folks continue to allow white supremacists...." @Pioneer1 I don't reject the notion that chemicals in our environment may be having an adverse effect on us. Of course, if this is the case, poor Black people would be disproportionately affected. That does not mean that this is all part of the same grand scheme by "The Man" to destroy Black people. Besides can they really afford to get rid of so many consumers, entertainers, and fodder for their prisons?
