I've been watching a lot more TV lately usually a couple of hours in the evening streamlining movies and the TV Series and a couple of the HBO talk shows like Bill Maher or John Oliver. I don't watch any commercial TV -- the commercials just get on my nerves. I have to say I tend to agree with Pioneer on the portrayal of Black men. here too the opinion is probably a biased due to gender. It seems to me that strong positive Black men are disproportionately underrepresented on the ole boob tube. Another thing I noticed is that interracial couples are over represented in comparison with Black couples. Again Black men may be more sensitive to these things. I imagine someone has collected data on these things; maybe it is something that can be looked up.

OK @Pioneer1 wake me when when the feds start charging little old Black ladies for their medicinal weed. Again, this is not a law that the feds are going to enforce. Now if you get caught moving serious weight from on state to another with intent to illegally distribute that is another story. 'Sides the Feds have many other tools with which to jam a brother up.

Ignoring the generalization about African women, men traditionally paid all the bills giving women the time to play their “traditional” role like minding the kids and maintain the household. Those days are over, as in many households everybody has to work including the kids. Kinda hard to be “mild and meek” when you are providing, often most, of the family’s financial support.

Men and women will typically disagree along the lines we see here. I tended to agree with Prof and Pioneer for most of my adult life, but we were reared in America and are from the same generation. As a kid, if I cried while getting whipped my mother would whip me longer and tell me that she'd give me something to cry about. My mother also told me if someone hit you you better hit them back, harder -- I don't care how much bigger they are than you. She was old school, and she raised me in a way people raised boys back then -- Don't let anyone one punk you, and you better not let me see you cry. Buy today's standards that might be considered child abuse 🙂. But it is how men were raised. My own children (girls) have never been in a fight. I don't think anyone my age (especially men) escaped childhood without being in several fights or even catching a real beatdown. This is why Will Smith's slapping of Chris Rock actually angered me -- and I usually could care less about the shit celebrities do. What Will did to Chris was a profoundly offensive -- bitching slapping a man in public. My gut instinct would have been kick Will's ass or die trying. Today I the best reaction was exactly what Chris did. I imagine if Chris started weeping that would have been acceptable, by today's standards, too. Chris is from my generation so I know his reaction and composure took a lot of heart. I know some men considered Chris weak, but I disagree. Today we live in a different world; we have little need for "real" men. Todays "warriors" drop bombs from drones they control with a joy stick from some trailer out west. What few real gladiators we have now can play football or box, but these sports are being frowned upon because too many men are getting hurt. Men are indeed different from women. I do feel that the culture is trying make men and women that same. I think this is wrong. We should use our resources to understand those differences rather than making believe none exist. One simple and easily observable difference is that men are stronger than women. Of course there are some women who are stronger than some men, but on average men are physically stronger. This fact makes a difference in how men and women behave and the roles they might place in a culture. In 2022 technology has rendered the need for physical strength obsolete, but this change is brand new compared to he 100's of thousands or years humans have been on earth. Our genetics and attitudes will not change over night. Maybe it is technology that has "pussified" men. Maybe some men see women exerting equal rights as a treat. Maybe some men do not like effeminate, gay, or any aspect of manhood that does not conform to the traditional standard of manhood elevated in any way. Men are different than women and those difference should be explored and understood in the context of a modern society rather trying to make men the same a women. Men will always reject that -- even if they can not articulate, or understand, exactly why. Women, on the other hand, don't seem to mind making men the same as women. This may be another manifestation of our differences. More likely women see these changes as getting the same benefits, rights, opportunities men get, something they deserve.

I’m gonna give the white guy who shared this YouTube video the benefit of the doubt given the title of this video. I assume disparaging title was crafted to attract viewers. It popped up in my YouTube feed and I was amazed to learn it was a young Claude Brown, author of Manchild in the Promised Land! I have never seen a video of Claude Brown. He grew up in Harlem and I could relate to his story. for a kid his 20’s I think he handled the interviewer well. He was right the about Moynihan report. The interviewer kept pressing about out of wedlock births, while completely ignoring the reasons for those conditions. Interestingly the rate in Harlem back then is the United States rate today. I wonder what Briwn would think of Harlem indeed this country today.

Are you suggesting that Amazon has better outreach to the Black community than Libro? Amazon has never said "boo" to me. LIbro has reached out for my support. They work directly with booksellers by providing materials to help sell audiobooks and much more. Amazon does not -- indeed they alienate Black booksellers. Libro has a smaller selection of audiobooks than Amazon, as publishers often give Amazon exclusivity for audiobooks. That sound crazy, but it is true. Imagine if Amazon got away with this for print books ... actually they do. Many indie authors give Amazon the ability to exclusively sell their books! These same authors then wonder why I'm not keen or adding their books to my online store I add a links to Libro.fm for every audio book that I can find add to this site. The only reason I have no sent these readers to Amazon is that, unlike ebooks, I actually sell some audio books through Libro.fm. I was able to add a link to Amazon Kindle's ebooks for every book on my site in about 10 minutes, because Amazon make it easy for affiliates to link to their site. There was no other ebook vendor I was aware that I could do this with Libro, as nice as their site looks, makes it more difficult to add affiliate links tp their site -- They have given me API access and I consistently discover audiobooks browsing their site that the API does not pick up and I'm often manually adding audiobook links. Ease of integration has always been Amazon strength over all other competitors. Amazon have exploited affiliates to build their monopoly. This is only the tip of the iceberg in explaining why Amazon dominates. So where do you buy your ebooks @daniellegfny You skipped over that point (again) and jumped to audiobooks.

Yeah I had a conversation with some before the lock downs, who worked for the government and told me the Corona Virus would be far worse than what was being reported in the media. He turned out to be right. I believe preventing wide scale panic was a motivation. I guess this messaging caused confusion in the population, that is not too bright to begin with... I'm curious too, as I asked the question in another conversation.

Assuming Biden made the statement he is taking one man's statement suggesting that we were being lied to by scientist and health leaders, which is just stupid and dangerous. As far as I know the medical community never said you can't get Covid after being vaccinated the advice has always been get vaccinated because it will help you avoid the worse symptoms, hospitalization, and death. Still you can died from covid after being vaccinated but the probability is MUCH lower. Covid, like the flu, is constantly mutating. Apparently they have not found epitopes that are constant across all mutations or that protect all people from the most harmful effects of the virus. The fact that the world has done so much to protect as from Covid is actually commendable given how fracted we are. More than 6MM people have died globally -- more than 1 MM in the United States, a relatively alarming number given our wealth. Then again given a sad health care system and media we probably got off as well as can be expected. The number of deaths the US experienced is more than it should have been. Lives were lost unnecessarily. The guy doing the questioning in the video above is sowing doubt and this is killing people as a result... Still as with the flu vaccine you are safer getting vaccinated than not getting vaccinated -- don't you disagree?

It is a cliché, but I don't think opposites attract either. I have the most fun with people who I commonality with. Some difference are tolerable but I doubt I could be involved with someone who is an active bumper-sticker-using, maga-hat-wearing, Trump supporter. Yeah they'll give that to native peoples. Being raised in a white racist culture I too fell prey to the notion that Black people are inferior, save on the athletic field. The reasons are complex and I no longer feel that way, because I learned more that what our society shoves into our face 24/7. Now if I were a white person, born in a culture that reinforces white supremacy, and the marginalizes Black people, I imagine it would be even harder, for a white person, to dispense with the notion of white superiority. Besides, what would be the incentive? As I learned, travelled, and understood more I know white people are not intellectually superior to Black people. The science tells us this as well. The presence of a "Greg," regardless of their motivation or phenotypical characteristics, is a direct result of a white racist society. Indeed that is who Greg is: the manifestation of a white racist society.
