Hey Milton, I'd appreciate if you would drop me troy@aalbc.com the name of the event and what happened (or share you experience here). Another problem we have is that many of us are forced to learn the hard way. That is we in order to avoid airing dirty laundry or coming across as "haters", we don't talk about bad experiences that we've had, as a result others get burned more easily. We could use a Black Book Better Business Bureau (BBBBB or B5) or something.

Wow it only took you 11 minutes of thought Writergirl :-) I feel everything you are saying but I still have a problem with the analogy. Again, a gun's sole purpose is to 'cause harm -- even when hunting. Religion, unlike the gun is used for both good and evil. I think the world would be a much better place without guns. I think the world would be a better place if religious practice were more spiritual.

Well I finished the book. Funny I picked up the paperback of Wilkerson's tome "The Warmth of other Suns" to read next, from a local independent bookstore, and it must be 10 times as long -- easily -- and it still cost less than Morrison's pamphlet. I know, I know, I'm too fixated on the price of Morrison's circular -- I'm just saying it was too short to be called a "novel". I thought the book was well written. There was no "plot". I thought it was an interesting insight into Frank Money's motivations and experiences. I like Morrison's writing style her ability to conjure images is slightly reminiscent of Jean Tomer. While I enjoyed the book I would not rave over it. It was simply to short compared to everything else that is available to read. But that can also be an advantage. If you are someone, who does not have a lot of time to read, and you want to sample Morrison, you can easily get through "Home" in a few hours. I read 1/2 of it in a sports bar, over fried pickles and beer, and finished it off before going to bed a few nights later. Cynique can you go more into the Zoot suited character? I don't think i really "got" him. I understand wearing the Zoot suit was a "declaration of freedom and self-determination, even rebelliousness". Maybe the Zoot suited apparition signifying his approval by the end of the story represented Cee and Franks freedom or the beginning of it. Also what do you think was the significance of reburying the killed father?

I'm not being facetious--I'm being objective. Now, should people be more aspirational? Sure. But that's something that's evident in majority society too. It's just that there's more white folks than black folks in this country, and more opportunities for them to have access to literature, and higher proportion of them who enjoy lit. fiction. Ironically, doesn't it seem they support black lit. fiction more than most black readers?"

Yes Welcome Back Cynique. Hopefully Chris cross over too. A buddy of mine Relative young Black man, went to a date with a supposed "sista" turned out to be an old Chinesse woman -- seriously! Said she was lonely, "and just wanted someone to take her out". My man took it quite well and had dinner with the woman. i think he did more than that but just ain't admitting anything...
