The truth, and looking at shatner's recent documentary proves this, is that paramount never really cared or cares for star trek. Paramount wants to go another way, it is a cash cow, but at its heart star trek is not like all the other major media film brands. They can't milk it into a constant stream of terror like an alien or predator. It isn't vast as a star wars, Star trek has a controlled science fiction. It doesn't have the modern escapism or fantasy that marvel or DC can provide. Dear Friends, Building on the success of the Lafayette Fellowship’s launch last year and following a successful Summer Leadership Program with our inaugural cohort, I am delighted to announce that applications for the 2027–2028 Lafayette Fellowship are now open. They will remain open through December 1, 2026. This program offers a unique opportunity to join the next generation of young leaders committed to strengthening the transatlantic relationship. The Lafayette Fellowship funds one year of master's-level study in France for up to 30 outstanding American students. Open to both Francophone and non-Francophone candidates, the program partners with leading French universities and grandes écoles across STEM, the humanities, the social sciences, and the arts, with degree programs offered in French or entirely in English. In addition to their academic studies, Fellows participate in the French-American Leadership Program, which provides an immersive introduction to French and European innovation, culture, and public policy, alongside mentorship opportunities. Last summer, our inaugural Fellows traveled to Paris, Avignon, Arles, and Marseille for the opening chapter of the program. Through masterclasses with leading figures, visits to major institutions, and unique cultural experiences, they discovered France from multiple perspectives while building a strong community of their own. "The Man Trap" saw the crew of the USS Enterprise encountering a mysterious space vampire on an alien planet. Funny thing about this episode? It wasn't even the actual pilot episode of Star Trek! After a failed first pilot episode was rejected as "too brainy" for audiences, a rare second pilot episode secured the show's future; but even that pilot wasn't aired until the third episode of season 1. "The Man Trap" won out as it featured distinct sci-fi elements, a mysterious alien monster, and showcase the main trio of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. Who knew! Fables , Fictional Slave Narratives , Comics , Detective Stories , plus High Fantasy are all fiction. Fables are fantasy as they have magical worlds/entities/objects/ or similar. Magic is defined as unsupported by what is known or science. Sometimes fictional slave narratives or comics or detective stories can be fantasy, but they don't have to be. So what is "High Fantasy" ? "High Fantasy" is fantasy with alot of details: Maps/Appendixes/Artworks. For example, no character type or story element in Tolkiens "Lord of the Rings" is absent in other fantasies. Magical Beings like elves or eagles who can talk are in all fantasy. Magical worlds like Mordor are in all fantasy. Magical cities like Osgiliath are in all fantasy. People descended from magical bloodlines like Aragorn are in all fantasy. Wizards like Saruman are in all fantasy. The variance in "Lord of the rings" are the details: maps, appendixes with bloodlines, appendixes with histories after the main contents of the book. In Global Black Fiction ,from the Song of Sundiata to High John to Anansi , fantasy elements are plentiful.
