Did you hear about the city council member of nyc, a female, who is of east asian decent and the black mayor who is former nypd member and the nypd itself, said she was wrong for biting an officer but in the video i saw, the officer has her by the head, very roughly, i can't imagine any nypd officer grabbing kathy hochul like that. 
    Having watched this video twice with years in between i see another issue that is solely in the realm of film. That being the absence of communities reality in any cinema. 
    For example: Sweet sweetback and The MAck had black financial assitance, most of the films in the 1970s commonly called blaxploitation were produced by whites. But the films in that same time period produced by blacks provide a far more honest or unapologetic critic to the external harms to the black populace in the usa from the non black. 
    I think it is interested cause in the films of Oscar Micheaux, most of the white characters are not only antagonists but are not government officials. so from "within our gates" to "sweet sweetback" violence from the non black , specifically the white, to the black is voluminous plus unrestrictedly violent, the change being not the actions but the form of white people, from white people who are not government officials to white people who are government officials. 
    And my point is, it is clear decades of cinema went absent showing this century long, slow change, but clearly it happened. 
    So, showing how an oppressed community's oppression is present or consistent but changes in subtlety from the oppressor  is what didn't happen in usa cinema, from oscar micheaux to melvin van peebles. 
    And to you, I wonder about cinema's in general. 
    Where are the ugyars in chinese cinema? Where are the Ainu in japanese cinema?  Where are the descendents of black soldiers and japanese women in japanese cinema? If you only look at english cinema, where are the irish? In german cinmea where are the turkich? In Mexican cinema where are the native americans or indios? Where are the minority groups of nigeria in nollywood?
    It is obvious the powerful don't give a microphone to the weak in any country. But when the oppressed get represented decently, not evenly or honestly that is asking too much, but decently it tends to be an interesting.  I think of titus from shakespeare which involves the annihilation of the gaul peoples by the roman empire, laying the foundation for the modern french people who don't come from the gauls but from the romans + germans + vikings. 
    The gaulish queen plots to butcher titus's family , a man who aided and abetted in the annihilation of her people. That scene when titus daughter ask the gaulish queen for kindness and the gaulish queen doesn't may seem cruel but in the context of sweetback, the thing some viewers of the play may miss is the absence of a play on gaul's fall by the roman empire with any honesty. It will show titus as close to satan figure as you will get. him and other romans, including common soldiers who acted absent any care to gaulish women. 
    Great video , really, glad i saw it again after years distance. 
    But i do wonder your views on the oppressed or the "lesser advertised" folk in asian countries in the various asian cinemas and the larger context of oppressed peoples in any cinema
