Statement
At one time, traditional media controlled the news, colleges and universities controlled educational materials, etc. The rise of the Internet, social media, and now generative AI have changed this scenario. The walls have fallen, and everyone has access to knowledge/ideas that used to be hidden behind pay walls or locked away in ivory towers.

My reply to the statement

hmmmm, controlled the news? If you look at newspapers from hearst to now they are no different in function to the modern social web or the human use of modern computers called AI. To rephrase , newspapers from the time of Hearst lost trust , what they had was control of the environment. But, did they ever control the news? I argue no. I argue the online bubbles people have online is a continuation of the church groups/kkk meetings/panther groups or workplace lunchrooms. People didn't believe Hearst, newspapers had trust before Hearst when newspapers were focused. Her newspaper, the Wall Street Journal originally only did financial news, that was how it survived the era of highest competition, but focus and intent. To restate the wall street journal didn't gain trust by being transparent as to their methods but by being focused /robust/honest. Readers didn't need to know how financial information was accessed but they can count and the numbers added up

Educational materials were expensive, and that was the pay wall but even though technology that a minority can afford in modernity allows for stores of knowledge greater than tons of libraries, like newspapers not having trust at the time of hearst, educational institutions in the usa at the least were never about learning, if anything they were institutions who masqueraded their true function as coordinators of bloodlines of financial wealth with educational materials. Even today for all those seeking knowledge at the massachusetts institute of technology or Stanford those schools true function has never changed and that is said coordination. And so , like newspapers function being continued by the internet and said computer programs commonly called artificial intelligence, the internet and the human use of said computer programs maintains the social coordination of colleges or places of so called higher learning, like alabama u that wouldn't accept black students, or the Historical Black Colleges or Universities that were mostly started by white churches to gain black flocks. 

Yes, modern technology , through the human communal interactions in the internet or the human use of computer programs commonly called artificial intelligence , as a tool has advanced the robustness of the actions in the human environment but  they haven't changed anything, they have merely continued the true function or purpose of the newspaper , colleges or et cetera in humanity.
