  1. I have nothing profound to add. I think it is very interesting letter as I’ve shared, but I guess that I’d nota universally shared sentiment. @daniellegfny I assume you know the author and recipient of the letter; it that right?
  2. I’m listening to an NPR report now… Well i guess how one feels about this turn of events depends upon how you feel about Cosby’s alleged/admitted behavior.
  3. I’ll reach out now @Sandra Snowden
  4. Periodically, I perform upgrades to the website's software. These forums and Blogs is the only area on AALBC that I did not write the code myself. Usually the upgrades are minor bug fixes and security patches. Today's upgrade was a bit more substantial. You may read more about the new features here: https://invisioncommunity.com/news/company/whats-new-in-460-r1229/
  5. True Mostly true. Platforms like Democracy Now have been steadfast in speaking up for the oppressed.
  6. Sure it will be global news if that happens; everything short of a orange jump suit is boring to me.
  7. If you saying wearing the wig creates an energy boost for her that compensates for the drag, I can't argue with that. Plus the flamboyancy adds to her marketability which will generate far more wealth than can be earned running...
  8. Biles' small pony tail does not compare to Richardson's long mop. There is no way that Biles could complete with that on her head -- it would simply get in the way and probably be dangerous. Biles would not be able to compete with Richardson's finger mails. Knowing what you know about aerodynamics @Delano, do you think that Richardson's hair has zero impact on time? Now Richardson may be so much better than everyone else that any negative impact will not make a difference, but If I were racing I would pull may hair back -- split seconds count in sprints. As a former gymnast, it is amazing to see someone doing a triple twisting double back in the layout position. The wrestling mats we used to tumble on have been replaced by the equivalent of a trampoline. Still, Biles is the best female gymnast ever.
  9. Wake me when he has been incarcerated.
  10. @Delano I can't image anyone who is hungry, or stressing out over how they are gonna pay their bills, agreeing with that.
  11. This is an editorial letter from Toni Morrison to Lucille Clifton. The hand written notes are Clifton's. To a girl with a hammer all the world is a nail.
  12. It seems to me she could shave at least a 10th of a second off her time by ditching the wig…
  13. I don’t think I’ve heard of either brother (I assume these are Black men) please share a video?
  14. That would explain the rapid economical advances over the last 50 years, but seems like a poor use of energy. Seems like superior intelligence would be better used to stop us from killing each other, stop us from making the planet inhospitable for human life, curing cancer, or ending poverty. How are we better off using technology (money,. time and energy) by putting a helicopter on Mars?
  15. I have no definitive explanation for what you were experiencing @Cynique. What I do know is that there is so much that we don’t know about the universe or even ourselves. Science freely admits that they have no clue what 95% of the universe is made of. Now we have almost certainly extraterrestrial aircraft flying around and no one has a clue where they came from. Yeah, what you are experiencing can be anything from the side effects of medication to reaching a stage of life where one can begin to experience things that younger people cannot experience; perhaps the development of additional sense — a natural consequence of aging that few of us experience because most don’t reach your age with all our marbles.
  16. It seems the prospect of alien visitations are likely given the variety of sightings that have been reported. It does not seem like anyone cares very much. It is like the country uttered a collective, “meh.” Why should I be surprised; 600,000 dead Americans from COVID doesn’t invoke alarm, why would little green men?
  17. Well they may be so far advanced than us, they would be considered "God-like" to us.
  18. If they learned, and accepted, the truth they'd get over it...
  19. I doubt this is factually accurate. Most of the Jews in Israel are not “Caucasian.” Like Lin Manuel Maranda’s view of Washington Heights, the media portrays many places as more white than they really are. You would think no Black people lived in Brazil, Cuba, or Israel based upon the white run media.
  20. Maybe “the Supreme being” is flying around and all those UFOs everyone is talking about lately…
  21. I was not aware of Juneteenth until I was an adult. The celebrations in and around New York City were not very big; It was sort of like Kwanzaa. You had to be really Afrocentric to be into it. One of my cousins started a parade in White Plains I believe it’s 30 years old now I never did make it I always have something else to do that weekend. Here in Tulsa Oklahoma the celebration was humongous there were at least 10 times the number of people here for Juneteenth than were here to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the race massacre—And that drew a lot of people. Some suggest the Juneteenth celebration in Tulsa is the biggest in the country. Everyone I talk to, who is from Texas, rejects that notion. All I know is I have not seen so many black people in one place, outside of an arena, in a long time. Sure they should have a Juneteenth national holiday. It is long overdue. What they should do is get rid of that stupid Columbus Day.
  22. This was my initial reaction to the question 🙂
  23. Wow, @Wendy Jones this is a treasure trove of information! Thanks so much for sharing it! I will share it in my next newsletter.
  24. Troy replied to Delano's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
@Delano, @wespe78’s party is what one would consider spam. There is an outside chance they did not know how to imitate a new post, so I have not yet banned them from the site.
  25. Just week I sent a number of emails to the leadership of the American Booksellers Association, telling them that needed to be more nuanced in how they describe Bookshop.org’s support of independent booksellers, for they were not supportive of booksellers like AALBC. This ultimately lead to a conference call with Bookshop.org’s leadership. They ultimately addressed my concerns. They asked me to join their advisory board to insure the issues of sites like AALBC are addresses. The issue of Ingram’s virtual monopoly on distribution is another issue. I continue to strategize on this and it is perhaps more challenging.
