  1. Well when you shared that quote in isolation it reads pretty harsh, but I not sharing anymore of Candice's nonsense any more. How do you define smart? But I think I found the source of my distain of Candice. She Black, articulate, and easy on the eyes. This stands in stark contrast to words that spew from her pie hole. This creates a cognitive dissonance in my head. If she were an white man saying the same thing it would not bother me nearly as much -- this rhetoric is expected. Imagine if Candice used her power for good instead of evil. She would be a very powerful sister!
  2. This really is a good idea. Actually this is the kind of thing that I do on my own. How would this be funded?
  3. Please share this documentation. How did it escape the scrutiny of journalist I wonder?
  4. Are you signing up to do it. I'll be at your disposal to answer any questions you might have. When we had the conversation back in March, booksellers were facing an existential threat -- indeed some still are. But, shortly after the public execution of George Floyd things changed abruptly. Large numbers of people, most white, begin to buying "anti-racist" books. These people actively supported Black-owned bookstores. Not only were some bookstores thrown a life line, many experienced record levels of sales! This surge on business exposed some problems. Many booksellers could not scale to mean demand. Companies like Amazon and, most aggressively Bookshop.org, swooped in a took business that really was intended for Black booksellers. Many platforms from the American Booksellers Association to Orpah Magazine (online) helped play up Bookshop while marginalizing or outright ignoring Black booksellers. I'm in the process of trying to create a coalition of booksellers committed to working together and sharing best practices. This will be hard because I'm resources constrained as are many booksellers. Seven months have already passed and we have not reconvened...
  5. Guest are you looking for a paid internship? What type of role or experience are you seeking?
  6. YouTube really knows how to incite me... I may need to take a break from YouTube or figure out a way to put on blinders when I'm uploading my videos. At any rate, the woman @Pioneer1 lusts after has a new book out. Below is a video in which she discusses ideas from the book. One is the statement that Black living in American today are the luckiest ones to have ever lived. Besides the statement being absurd on it's face. The implication (correct me if I'm wrong) is that we should, on some level be grateful that our ancestors we enslaved. When Candice gets in front of white people and say shit like this I just want to stomp her into the ground. @Pioneer1 this person physically revolts me -- seriously. I like to share all of our voices on this site, but I'm finding it increasingly difficult to share Candice's work here. I'm not even sure if sharing her ideas -- if only to refute them is worth the effort... Maybe there is a reason Simon & Shuster (S&S), the publisher of Candice's book is the only major publisher to have never purchase an ad on AALBC. S&S authors have purchased advertisements, but never the company.
  7. First these are not debates. The pretense is annoying. Why can't the people running these debates simply cut the speakers mics? Why can't the moderator force the speaker to answer the questions asked. The Dems are unhappy the Republicans are going to confirm another Supreme Court Justice; they should have worried about that 4 years ago. If they plan to add more justices -- admit it. It is obvious they plan to do that. Pence saying democrats want to allow abortions up to the the moment of delivery is aburd. How can the candidates be to simply say anything. There was very little useful information related during the debates. I already voted so the debates can't influence my vote, but none of these debates made me feel better about my choice. Brace yourself sports fans...
  8. howabout covidiots and covidiablos 🙂 Is Dr. Wesley a medical doctor? None of what he said passes muster with me. But I can easily understand why people would believe it. @Pioneer1 did you observed many covid-19 effected white boys running around your neighborhood coughing on money and going on shipping sprees?
  9. The government could buy the data from Facebook 😉 Seriously the Government has all kind of demographic information on us fron a variety of sources. Of course the government does not really know how much money people actually make, because everyone has an incentive to hide income. Does anyone believe waiters and hair dressers report all of their tips? A good panhandler can rake into more money than an uber/lyft driver and the government has no clue how much that is. The numbers are however indicative. Given the number of people being evicted and waiting on lines for free food. There are too many people not making a decent wage while wealthy people pay little or no taxes.
  10. The Finalists for the National Book Awards have been announced.
  11. You are perceptive Mel, for I do like to think of myself this way, because often things are more complicated than they are presented. I feel if you can understand why a person is a Covidiot (that is a new one on me 🙂), you might be able to help them and in the process maybe save a few lives. But you are probably right on this one and given the fact that, as @Pioneer1 wrote a percentage of our population does indeed has some level of sociopathy. So while it may not be worth the effort in understanding a Covidiot's motivation -- something needs to be done about them, as they impose a danger not just to themselves but to others.
  12. Don't sleep on fire hydrants man. They provided a great deal of fun -- streams for boat races, way to wet unsuspecting drivers, and relieve from the oppressive summer heat (It always seemed to me that the summers used to be hotter when I was a kid, then remind myself that no one had AC back then LOL). There are millions of stories we can all tell. Where is your book?
  13. Yes, I know, he told me the same thing years ago. He was a good brother with a big personality. Yes @Pioneer1 we are talking about the same man, who died of Covid earlier in the year. I believe there is education. But Covid deniers are not all ignorant. Ignorance can not explain it, once people are presented with the fact of 210K deaths -- despite lockdowns. What we are seeing is a perverse combination of varying degrees of stupidity and greed. Plus a complete lack of empathy.
  14. Interesting reactions absent of reason or compassion... My guess is that more people have died from Covid-19 in the US this year alone than from Ebola or AIDS in the last decade combined. Will a million people need to die before you care? Oh wait, a million people have already died from Covid-19. But I guess that was all due to stress related too. I have to remind myself periodically to accept the fact that some people will never about others.
  15. I rarely express myself using the language learned the Harlem, nigga.
  16. Never heard of her... How many press secretaries has 45 had anyway? Just learned a HS classmate passed from Covid-19 a really nice guy an entrepreneur and restaurateur.
  17. I did not make that argument, nor would I based upon the information I have. If he had a high profile job with Fox News or some corporation I might agree with you, but he go canned by PBS for Christ's sake.
  18. Again, we don't know what Tavis was accused of or punished for. I don't know what Tavis net-worth is today, but the $2.6 MM fine may be relatively minor.
  19. I've met Smiley on a number of occasions, but never had a real conversation with him. He did not strike me as particularly out going or friendly. Though I'm sure it I was a celebrity, or a fine woman, he would treated me differently. While I would have said he was a gentleman, I had not idea he was sexually abusing people. Your bar for morally acceptable behavior is a lot lower than mine. Come on man Obama isn't even a genius few people are. The idea that you would attribute "charisma and social intelligence" to Trump is mind blowing. Hearing 45 speak off script is very revealing. Despite access to every conceivable advantage 45 communicates like a child. I don't know what 45's IQ but I'd be willing to bet it is below the median (100). Have you noticed that when your ideas are challenged to then take them to an extreme case. Sure if someone is so mentally retarded (or whatever the PC word is today) that they are incapable of learning to read yes they may have difficulty presenting themselves as intelligent, but we were not talking about these people were we?
  20. Google's Algorithm is working hard; it showed me this video front center. Knowingly manipulated, I clicked on the video and shared it here. I shared it because I through it would make @Pioneer1 happy and because I wanted to illustrate how Google fans the flames of racial strife. Facebook gets beat up on this all the time, but unlike Facebook Google's direct influence extends throughout the entire WWW probably has a greater impact. I'm not saying the pinheads at Google are trying to get white folks scared or fire up Black folks deliberately. It does not matter. The content they are PUSHING (I did not seek out this video of related content) it will almost certainly have that impact. Will White militia groups, who see this, allow themselves to be punked and let this go unanswered? How many innocents will be caught up in the cross fire and will Google ever be held to account? Who know?
  21. This is the operative phase. CLEARLY Tavis was forcing himself on the women or men. Otherwise we would not be having this conversation. Of course white authorities have been hypocritical as hell since before the inception of this nation, but that does not mean Tavis did not do something wrong. Again, since nether of us know specifically what he did wrong it is impossible to debate the merits of his punishment. At least they did not toss Tavis' behind in prison the way they did Dr. Cosby.
  22. Regarding Candice you've manipulated what it means to be a "lady" to suit your world view. Is Tavis Smiley a gentleman in your book too? You sure can fake intelligence; all you need is someone with less intelligence to dupe. Many Americans view 45 as very intelligent, right?
  23. Look, I have no clue what Tavis did. However if he got canned and has pay damn near 3,000 large he must have done some serious shit. If you want to defend everything short of rape that is cool. Tavis could have found someone else besides a subordinate to screw (he obviously was not making love).
