  1. LOL! Yo I done tole y'all I don't put anything pass a group of people that would go someplace, kill all the people they found there, bring other people they kidnapped from another place and enslaved them for generation, and kill over 600 thousand each other over the spoils -- and that does not get us out of the 19th century... Greedy, evil people will do anything for more money and the power it brings over others.
  2. The next person who explicitly recommends buying a book from Amazon on this site will be drawn and quartered; I don't care if the is available on AALBC.com or not ]😉
  3. Relationship is new. Basically I'm committed to one person now we will see how it goes 🙂
  4. Furious Flower: Seeding the Future of African American Poetry Edited by Joanne V. Gabbin and Lauren K. Alleyne (Jan 17, 2020, TriQuarterly Books) The seminal poetry collection of this generation. If you are new to poetry here is a excellent sampling of terrific wordsmiths:
  5. @I love black forums, when you make a declarative statement like "Alek Wek is not pretty," It sounds like a universal truth which it clearly is not; it is just your opinion. Standards for beauty are not universal across cultures or even within a culture across time. Do you think other people from the Sudan think Alek is not pretty? How do you think her parents or her lovers feel about her attractiveness? Welcome to the forum!
  6. That right there is the beauty of life and interacting with others. We all have difference intelligences, knowledge, and experiences. I believe everone is smarter than someone else in some aspect in life. That is what makes the forums so interesting to me. For example the conversation on Vodun @Azacotogan, @Kareem, @Pioneer1, @Delano and the others are having is one I can only read for it is way over my head -- they are all far more knowledgeable than I -- but I'm learning.
  7. My only probkem with Dyson is that he was not nearly as vocal when Obama was in office. Cornel West was consistently critical once Obama revealed he was not going do anything specifically for Black people would contnue the war mongering, and uplift the wealthy at the expense of the poor. West was crucified by Black people for this. Obama was beyond sacrosanct; it was like the imagery of his presidency as the first Black (or half Black man) was more important than than any of the issues plaguing Black people in America. No, I'm not aware of anything he did specifically for Black people other than allow us to tick the box to saying Black president... check. Obama was the president of "all people;" this is the most common refrain of his uncritical supporters. Obama, like every other president, save Kennedy and Lincoln who both got their heads blown off, was the president of the plutocracy. It is not Obama's fault he, like 45, is a product of American's "peculiar" form of government.
  8. Troy replied to Ken's topic in Black Literature
@Ken yes check the URL and repost it. Also consider registering your own domain: https://www.domainsforauthors.com/ I can help you redirect it to your Blog.
  9. Yes on my phone Google is serving ads that appear between page views -- which I hate. I recently set an option to reduce the ads by 50% I think Google is revealing something with the dating ads you see. I use to see them too until I became serious with someone, then they disappeared. I wish Google was not a primary revenue source.
  10. That is my one complaint about HBO. they also seem to have a penchant for homosexual sex scences and gratuitious violence. I don't have showtime. You are more of a free spirit a characteristic I admire. I have grown into being a free spirit as I have gotten older, but this comes at a price because American society is not optimized for this characteristic... indeed it is designed to crush it (is that why you are in Australia?)
  11. Does he have exposure "down under?" Partnerships can help both parties; you just have figure out how -- and that really is the challenge. You both have the temperaments and the knowledge to make one work if you both tried.
  12. I never buy "bleeding edge" technology like the latest phone when if first comes. I never understood people who wait on lines to buy the latest apple phone. I can afford to buy the cheapest laptop is a poor i investment for me. I tried that once and regretted it as i had to replace after a year purchased a much nicer one and ut was the best investment in technology i ever made. I recently cut back on media myself rarely watch TV. When i do i limit myself to an hour. I read with the extra time. I dont care about brands either. I do eat fast food on road trips or when im out of town, but when im at home i cook. Still I know im not immune, this is why i try to ignore mass media.
  13. And the plot thickens... I read The Guardian's article. The ads they serve really do a diservice to the site. Many are click bait to even worse material. I hope the ads you see on this site are not nearly that bad. The following quite, from their site, is on point, but if I know anything about Americans The Guardian will need to serve thier shitty ads for a long time to come "Rampant disinformation, partisan news sources and social media's tsunami of fake news is no basis on which to inform the American public in 2020. The need for a robust, independent press has never been greater, and with your support we can continue to provide fact-based reporting that offers public scrutiny and oversight. Our journalism is free and open for all, but it's made possible thanks to the support we receive from readers like you across America in all 50 states."
  14. It would be great if y'all could do a project together. He is a very down to Earth Brother. I have not really heard from him since I shot that video in an Atlanta mall Almost 5 years ago.
  15. You do mean the world of the common man and of the elites, or do you mean the worlds of people of European descent and of African descent?
  16. Yes I would like to, but i have no idea what "amfrobian" means. @Kareem I've had similar conversations with others about homesteading. Atlantic city was discussed as the property values have gone down and there are some good deals
  17. https://aalbc.com/authors/author.php?author_name=Lloyd+Strayhorn @Kareem this forum is comprised if serval forums. The "culture" forum always ho more participation than the book forum.
  18. Yes, if he is ousted before the end of his tem you win. I don't think strong convictions is the sign of a closed mind. When you fail to change your mind when evidence proves you wrong, that is not a strong conviction that is stupidity.
  19. Absolutely! Sure Black people have some responsibility but the powers aligned against us are very, very powerful and effective. You asked how many pairs of Air Jordans do I own. I have never brought a single pair. I clearly remember thinking people were fools for buying them -- paying $100 for a pair while making minimum wage or doing something illegal to get them. But poor kids were heavily targeted. I never really though much of Jordan for lending his name to such an enterprise, but I'm sure it helped him become very wealthy. If we were properly educated we would much less likely fall prey to marketers -- but none of us are totally immune. 12 years ago i ditched wall street as you did and have not a full time job since. I know you left that world long before i did. Perhaps it took me longer to come to the same conclusions you did.
  20. Most may not realize Bryant published books through his company Granity Studios, which focused on creating new ways to tell stories around sports:
  21. Listening with a open mind is really difficult.
  22. Yeah that is the reasoning you find in Murdoch's publications and learn in business schools. Cigarettes are only made because of demand, toxic mortgages were made then converted into worthless securities because of demand. Africans were kidnapped and sold into slavery because of your so called "demand." Sure, @Delano it is all the consumer's fault.... can't you see beyond the capitalist's rhetoric?
  23. @Kareem I'd assume Murdoch like the rest of the other wealthy climate change deniers do so because of financial interest; Investments in oil or other industries that are threatening their wealth.
  24. I doubt she'd admit it LOL!
  25. A sign of intelligence is the ability to explain complicated things in simply.
