And forget universal remotes 'cause they actual require the degree. The midle class has skilled accounts to game the system. The working class just muddles through or does not get it done and kids don't go to college. Or the are preyed upon by the for profit schools that will gladly do the paperwork not caring if you graduate.

Yeah I saw The Butler over last week myself. Cynique you gave a very good account of the film, one that reasonated more with me that the review that Kam wrote. The film was OK in my opinion, notthing to write home about. I actually found it rather long. It needed to be tighted up a bit. I think they could have completely ditched Terrance Howard's characther, without losing anything and developed the main characters a more. All of the characters, as you say performed well. But it was a talented cast and that was expected. My wife probably liked the film less that I did my 20+ year old daughters liked it a bit more. It would have been nice to know what was made up in the film and what was true. The opening scene was terrible but was it comepletely made up? The son's character was a bit too much for me. He is on the famous bus that got burned up with the Freedom Riders in it, then he is in the leadership of the Black Panther, and ultimately becomes a US Congressman. OK I guess that is possible but I'd like to know who that dude is and was he also the son of "The Butler" too. I even begin to doubt if the butler actually had the ear of each president. It seems to me the truth is compeling enought, but I guess the white screenwriter felt the need to add the rape, adultery, murder to make it more realistic to a mass audience... Notheless The Butler may achieve a 3rd week at the top of the box office, depending upon how well the One Direction film does this weekend. Needless to say I'm glad the film was made.

Akashic Books "Reverse-Gentrification of the Literary World" That is Akashic Books slogan and they are serious. Akashic has published a number of Black authors including authors I consider part of the AALBC.com's family including Elizabeth Nunez, Bernice McFadden, Persia Walker and even the irrascible, incorrible Kola Boof. The have published books Thumper LOVED including Jesus Boy and many others. Recently, the publisher of Akashic, Johnny Temple interviewed me. This is a very unusual thing for a publisher to do. I think it is a great idea (not just because they interviewed me). But they are returning the support I've provided them over the years -- and I truly appreciated it. They are helping me help them. Big publishers could take a note from Akashic Books playbook. The industry would be much stronger if they did. I think people simply got caught up in doing what they can for themselves. It seems to me that this country is best suited for individuals who do what is best for themselves. The benefit of others is only considered to the extent that it directly benefits oneself. These people, usually our most successful, are not interested in advancing anyone other than themselves. Working for the betterment of a group -- even Black people -- is out of the question. We live in a world where ministers who make enough money to own a private jet off the back of people living pay check to pay check (if they are lucky), are held in high esteem. I understand why people behave so selfishly; again, this is the way it works in America. She is optimized for individuals who acquire wealth at the expense of others. People (all people) will need to feel a lot more pain before they do anything about it. They will also need to understand that it is not a Black vs white fight. A Black president should have made that abundantly clear. But instead we mistakenly see this as progress... Keep complaining Harry perhaps enough people will understand and do something. I'm not holding my breath.

As far as Black folks, you are probably right but the exceptional Black people are just a small percentage of the total. Keep in mind many exceptional Black people don't make it. There are a lot of exceptional people locked up! The reason the children often don't fare as well is because they are not exceptional, despite the advantages their exceptional parents may have provided. You might as well as Exceptional Luck to your list too.
