  1. These Japanese dancers doing James Brown really blow me away! Asian soul!
  2. That Asian Hate-Crime Bill passed easily in Congress and they didn't need to establish a "study" to waste time. They just immediately passed the bill almost unanimously to protect the Asian community from racist targeting as well as give them money. They know how to waste time when they want to.
  3. I was reviewing the discussion forum archives (2005 to 2010) and discovered this post from almost 18 years ago: โ€œMakes you want to run out and kill someoneโ€ Basically, the post was about someone sharing information on a book of lynching photos, Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America. I did not want to see the book and never even considered sharing it. I dismissed it as just cruelty porn The responders to my post disagreed with me saying it was important that this information be shared. I have clearly changed my position on this subject. I have (just now) added the book to the site. I guess I have learned a lot The YouTube video shows the photo from the book (I plan to order a copy). The video can't be embedded because there is an age restriction. (This is a trigger Warning! viewer discretion advised: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRnToazuDaQ) The book can, of course, be purchased on Amazon. I linked to Amazon in the forum post. The link still works. To Amazon's credit, they have not broken a product link still they have started. Barnes and Noble has broken product links multiple times, and this is one of many reasons Amazon took over dominance of online book sales when B&N was the market leader. But Amazon is so freaking greedy they have set it up so they people can purchase a tee shirt featuring the image of a person being strung up! Seems like Amazon would be smarter about this, but when making money is your number one priority sensitivity is of little concern.
  4. I was surprised to see this today! And in AFrica! However, I do want to note that this video was shared by a blogger that pushes the 'Go Back to Africa' idea, of which, I absolutely do not agree with for today and for these times. I strongly believe that African Americans should stake their claim here, in America and deal with the issues that have caused us to be shipped out of Africa!--in the first place! I do believe that, inevitably, there will come a time in which there will be mass movements of people relocating from one place to another in this world that will be sparked due to an abrupt natural catastrophe of some sort, but until that happens, we should be wise on the issue of relocating and running from one place to another. Maybe there will come a time where it will be the right thing to do, and go back to Africa and for the ones that do go, I think it is good if they can financially go and get set up in Africa, but as a movement sponsored by some group for a mass movement-- Uh we need to think about that and realize that we could leave one place and then go into another place and have much more detrimental experiences! It just seems like a crazy idea, for African Americans to set themselves up to be refugees anywhere. I just cannot believe the movements that have come about to "solve the problem of the slave trade" even since the Marcus Garvey Movement. In the 1940s when this movement occurred, there were European Jews with their movement going back to Palestine! And then too, there were some secret movements of shipping the Original African Jews too, back to the Middle East. This world is insane with their inhumane behaviors against certain groups of people. When will it all end?
  5. Sunset laws? I need to do some research. Yes, @Stefan I agree in that there are nice neighborhoods everywhere and I remember reading about how certain programs were set up to keep Black people out too. Also, about what @Pioneer1spoke about in California, well, I remember hearing about how, Ida B. Wells was part of a movement where Black people left in great numbers due to racism. And, there is a lot of history about that too, during the Reconstruction Era. But no, I don't believe that is the right thing to do in California. I don't believe that Black people should exit because of the racism. Today is different from those time periods and so, I think we need to rethink how to deal with the issues of today concerning racism.
  6. I Got the Feeling! --Young Ladies Interpret James Brown Oldie But Goodie! Therapy for me! I watched this over and over!
  7. In one of Minister Louis Farrakhan speeches about self sufficiency. He said Jeff a little if you have to. So thanks @KENNETH for your comment.
  8. While I understand the sentiment of "makes you want to run out and kill someone", somewhere between early Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. is where the real energy lies. AfroAmericans should never stop collecting every piece of evidence that can be used to indict America of its original sin of slavery and the aftermath of it. Nor should we drop the case (reparations). Jews will never let people forget the holocaust and the Auschwitz concentration camp and the diary of Anne Frank. AfroAmericans should be so diligent about knowing their own history and pursuing the debt America owes. BTW, racism white supremacy is still alive too. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  9. 1 point
Everyone is entitled to their ideology and opinion. Respect is non-negotiable. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  10. i am a i was always a fan of the Pointer sisters. They had their own unique style!
  11. Gaddafi was a threat to racism white supremacy. A united Africa and uplifting Black people is the last thing they want on this planet. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  12. I started a similar thread yesterday regarding the GOP and House Speaker. The dysfunction is hilarious.๐Ÿ˜Ž
  13. The Liberty statue was originally an Italian concept. What is little known is that the Statue of Liberty gifted by France was meant to celebrate the end of Slavery in the U.S. But soon after, it was pushed as a nod to immigrants.
  14. @Chevdove Just because some of the most racist areas in this country sport beautiful neighborhoods, this does not mean there is no skullduggery afoot. In their desperation to make what is an ill-advised point of fairness, many forget that states such as Florida were able to develop such nice areas by using Racial Covenants, Sunset Laws and outright thuggery. There are nice neighborhoods practically everywhere. So says the guy who wants Blacks to flee California because so many Latinos live in the southern part of the state now. In effect, this guy wants them to give up the fight to expand their political power. I am thrilled Karen Bass won the Mayoralty of Los Angeles. Little Black and Latino boys and girls need to know and see they are represented. Because a few of us would prefer they not even try.
  15. @Chevdove, thanks for the excellent identification and background on the Pointer Sisters.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฟ The Pointer Sisters thrived in the 1970s which was a great time for Black music and arguably its best decade. There were so many groups, bands, artists and musicians. The downside to the 1970s music scene was alcohol and drug use was rampant. No surprise the sisters had their struggles. Amazing to live through and talk about it. Here is my favorite Pointer Sisters song. It was written and produced by the late great, legendary Allen Toussaint from New Orleans. I'm grateful the best of Black music has been recorded. Even when the artists are no longer relevant musically and/or with us on this side of glory, we still have their music.๐Ÿ˜Ž
  16. The fact that the bill didn't gain any traction on POTUS Obama's watch is a testament to the fact that the issue of reparations is a non-starter among Americans. OTOH, the Anti-Asian Hate Crime bill passed through Congress with flying colors. Nevermind that there are less than 20 Asian-Americans in Congress. Reparations will take a massive movement in order to become a real issue for America. The system of racism white supremacy won't allow it. White folks are playing the long game and letting the clock run out. They know time will wash away the history of slavery from future generations of AfroAmericans. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  17. I hear you @Pioneer1 "rapists, pedophiles, serial killers, crack addicts" are a minuscule portion of our population," so don' t worry about them. We can probably get more than 25% of Black folks on board. I'm not sure people truly appreciate the progress Marcus Garvey made toward unifying Black people. I don't see how it would be possible for anyone to unify Black people at that level again. I wish I was wrong, but I see little evidence that I am. Again, I think the fight for reparations must include non-Black people. We should strive for unity among people who are in support of justice. We can start by working to get an HR-40-like bill passed (a committee to study reparations for Black people).
  18. Think I have an understanding of your idea of black unity from reading your posts. Black unity will never include all or a majority of people. But, it can still benefit those who need help. Every culture has ties that bind the people but there are still differences among them too. Having a tie that binds is code (principles, rules, values, etc.). Code is the 1st step towards unity. From there, dynamism within the group can attack the agenda i.e. issues of importance and concern in all areas of human activity. That's why there are different organizations and religious denominations and political parties, etc. Unity requires leadership. Someone has to step up to plate who has the intelligence, personality, charm and charisma capable of galvanizing a movement. Black folks haven't seen such a figure in several decades now. It's probably gonna take a miracle. But, it's not the blonde haired, blue-eyed dude hanging up on the cross. ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  19. I know you live in the Midwest, but it does not sound like you have any experience with several feet of snow falling in a short period of time. That much Snow can easily cripple a city. as far as heated sidewalks and/or streets Iโ€™m just not sure how practical it would be to retrofit existing side walks or how difficult a problem it was be from an engineering perspective. I canโ€™t even image how much additional load it would put on a power grid at a time when energy is at our greatest demand. it does not seem practical, municipalities would be better off proving more affordable housing for their citizens.
  20. Rep. McCarthy is down by 11 failed votes if anyone is keeping score. ๐Ÿ˜ The biggest insult was a few from the GOP floating Rep. Byron Donalds (FL) as a potential candidate for House Speaker. They even had nerve to reference Fredrick Douglass and quote Martin Luther King Jr.๐Ÿค” Congress has adjourned until noon and will resume the circus again tomorrow.๐Ÿ˜Ž
