Amazon Uses Megan Thee Stallion to get People to Buy more Stuff
ProfD replied to Troy's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
The system of capitalism thrives on consumerism and materialism which are the opiates that keep the masses anesthetized and oppressed. -
I don't believe too many folks ever thought cars, radios, TVs and computers would become sentient.

The Isley Brothers were the best rock ‘n’ roll band ever!
ProfD replied to Troy's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
White folks. 6 decades of worldwide tours. The Rolling Stones are the highest-grossing live music act of all time collecting an estimated $2.6 billion. -
Yep. As I mentioned in the debate thread, it was sad and pathetic display. The article points out the difference between the POTUS PJB who showed up for the State of the Union address a few months ago and the person we saw and heard last night. Even the most bipartisan news media outlets try to hide the most embarrassing POTUS miscues. The folks most intimately aware of POTUS PJB's mental acuity and physical fitness know the real deal. The Dems may be wiling to keep PPJB propped up for as long as the Weekend at Bernie's routine works. I still think Dems will find a way of getting PPJB to tap out and step aside before November.

AI (Artificial Intelligence) is about as capable of becoming sentient as a vibrator, dildo, blow up doll or robot will be able to develop feelings for its owner.

Right. The Dems have a few folks they could nominate i.e. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (MI), Gov. Gavin Newsom (CA), Gov. Josh Shapiro (PA), The three (3) of them are in the 50s age range. Watching the debate last night, my 1st thought flashed back to when Larry Holmes beat up Muhammad Ali. Even Holmes could see that Ali wasn't all there. Larry Holmes even tried to get the ref to stop the fight in order to save Ali. I'm waiting to see how long the Dems will keep up this charade of having POTUS PJB run for re-election. They need to take grandpa by the arm and tell him to tap out. POTUS PJB doesn't look like he can do another 4 months; certainly not another 4 years. Before November, I think Dems will find a way to get PPJB to step down.

I did read the book introduction thoroughly. The point I was making above is most successful... -
https://www.politico.com/news/2024/06/27/aipac-jamaal-bowman-cori-bush-00165174 Coming against Israel does not bode well for American politicians. AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) put up the money to insure Rep. Jamaal Bowman (NY) lost in the primary election. The next chip to fall could be Rep. Cori Bush (Mo). She's in a close primary race too. The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) takes money from non-Black special interest groups. As a result, they have marching orders that have little or nothing to do with helping their Black constituents. Politics is a dirty business. Black politicians aren't remotely interested in playing the game to the advantage of lifting up Black people. They seem to be selling out solely to enrich themselves. I don't feel badly for Black politicians losing their seats especially when they don't deserve to be in the chair.

Right. This is why we need age limits and term limits. There's no shortage of people in America who could step up and do a great job leading the country. The problem is that our political system is broken because it has been corrupted by big money. The BS rolls downhill from there.

The Isley Brothers were the best rock ‘n’ roll band ever!
ProfD replied to Troy's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
No other band can make that claim. The Isley Brothers can own it. However, the most successful, longest tenured band is The Rolling Stones (Bones). I'm glad Ronald and Ernie Isley are still performing and sounding great. -
Yikes. The debate was not a good look especially for POTUS PJB. Voters will definitely have to hold noses in November.

It's great to see a book written about the Isley Brothers contribution to music and highlighting how racism carries over into the business of music. The *problem* remains the same. Until Black folks run the businesses and write the narratives, we'll keep getting the shorter end of the deal, accolades and recognition. The Isley Brothers were extremely successful. Sold millions of records. Had millions of fans. Made a lot of money too. Overcame adversities. They're great in the grand scheme. -
There will be a presidential debate tomorrow night (June 27th) at 9 pm on CNN. The debate will be between POTUS Joe Biden and former POTUS Donald Trump. Unfortunately, no other POTUS candidates will be onstage including Cornel West and Robert Kennedy Jr. The debate could be similar to 2020 if the geriatric candidates take whatever medication enhances their cognitive abilities. POTUS PJB seems to forget and freeze. Former POTUS Orange Julius has memory lapses and supposedly has a body odor. It's unfortunate that voters have to hold their noses when voting for either of these Rock em Sock em robots in November. The good news is that neither one will be able to run for POTUS in 2028. Not because they're too old or worse. Term limit.

There's no good reason for Black folks to be oppressed. Class is a social construct. Poverty is a condition fueled by human greed. There are plenty places on the planet where homogeneous people live peacefully. No supremacy or domination. In fact, we can see that in Africa where Black folks are the majority, they do not practice Black supremacy. Their biggest problems are greed and corruption instigated by the system of white supremacy. Consumerism and materialism are the opiates Black folks use to anesthestize themselves within the system of white supremacy.
-
I really wish that Black folks were less passive and more aggressive and willing to overthrow the system of racism white supremacy by any means necessary. Of course, I'm also aware of the disadvantages and ultimate outcome we would face too. White folks would wipe Black folks off the face of the Earth or destroy it in the process in a war. In the meantime, Black folks keep hoping and praying for the situation to self-correct and/or a miracle by way of the sky fairy.
-
@frankster strikes again. The most powerful force on the planet is racism white supremacy. It is a prison for non-white people. Nevermind fighting it...the weight of racism white supremacy is too much for most to bear. Because of racism white supremacy, most people will ultimately throw up their hands and/or bury their heads in the sand and look for an easy way to survive within the prison of it.

Pro-Palestinian Protests at Columbia University
ProfD replied to ProfD's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
In recent news, charges have been dropped against most of the protestors. Just like the aftermath of clearing out the encampments, there's nothing left to see here. However, some university officials have to explain and justify why they should keep thier jobs after letting the protests happen in the first place. This system is crazier than cat sh8t. -
Humans don't have to be given *instructions* in order to write a poem or produce music. The gifted and/or talented just do it. OTOH, AI has to be fed data and produce output based on inquiry or instruction i.e. told to write a poem about [insert here] or compose music [insert style here]. IOW, AI does not *think* for itself. Education has been the lottery ticket that has afforded Black people an opportunity to do non-physical *work* within the system of racism white supremacy. AI will be used to replace people especially non-whites in *jobs*. Rich folks will be able to *automate* their products and services without having to deal with human personnel and management issues. Hopefully, Black folks will use their brains, physical abilities and technology to get their entrepreneurial hustle up and build their own industries and economies. Absolutely. As mentioned above, for the people who do not see the handwriting on the wall, life will become a lot harder in terms of economic survival. I'm not debating or denying that AI won't be better at a lot of things humans do. Just not in terms of creativity. The net gain will benefit wealthy people moreso than the masses. Sitting around and having no job or anything constructive and productive to do might look good. But, it's like being a vacation. Eventually, there is a desire to get back *home* and to whatever *work* entails.
-
The difference in using AI for indolence and industriousness will be evident over time. A telltale sign will be a significant rise in the number of people on permanent vacation. It has taken humans a couple hundred thousand years to evolve to this point. We've only had electricity as we know it for less than 150 years. Computers haven't been around for half that time yet. Granted, computers do accelerate processes. Still requires human input in order to produce output. I'd take the bet if we were guaranteed at least 50 more years on the planet. Science only gets it sometimes...maybe. Still, there is so much that we simply don't *know* or cannot explain. Good luck programming it.
-
I'm definitely not putting human beings on a pedestal. Several times I've written that we need to do a much better job of taking care of each other. We're are fully formed and still flawed creatures. I've constantly written Excellent. Medical research and finding cures is where i will be most impressed with AI. I'm not interested in AI doing whatever humans are too lazy to do for themselves. Whatever entity created human beings has limited our ability to clone ourselves and/or produce life out of thin air. Otherwise, human beings have always been constructive and destructive. It comes with the program. Correct. Scientists have successfully cloned animals. However, it's never been to the point of true viability as far as we know. Limited in scope, they use the science in plants and animals mainly for breeding purposes. H8ll, considering that humans cannot 1) clone themselves, 2) cure diseases, 3) live outside the Earth without a suit or 4) travel more than several thousand miles within the solar system, I would not bet on humans being capable of producing a self-aware robot in several lifetimes.
-
As far as we know, scientists have been unable to clone human beings successfully. The Supreme Being won't give up the codes that allow for the creation of life. I believe the same goes for Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI will never be sentient. I'll be impressed with AI if/when solves real problems, for example, coming up with cures for incurable diseases.
-
When I read the Go example, I immediately thought about Chess playing computers.
-
Hard to separate algorithms when AI is the result of computer programming. As long as AI requires human input in order to produce an output, I cannot think of it as real intelligence. No doubt, AI will be a powerful tool that puts humans out of work and/or allows more of them to sit around doing little or nothing or less work. AI could potentially render humans super lazy and ultimately dull and boring.
-
Intuition, having the ability to take action or make decisions based on feeling instead of reasoning is a part of what makes us human beings. IMO, AI will not make decisions based on a hunch or thinking outside the box (algorithm). Everything AI outputs will require human input. IOW, humans aren't going to wake up and AI has already taken care of things that were dreamed about.
