Could AI go rogue like the computers in The Matrix
umbrarchist replied to Delano's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
Quote from the book when the system began to get out of control. ========================= “You don’t think we could catch up with it if we put everything into an all-out Haystack effort?” Krantz asked. “Our prediction is that tomorrow morning we’d be twice as far behind as we were this morning,” Dyer answered. “And after that it would go on getting worse exponentially.” “Our estimates about this part were way out. There’s no point in denying it,” Frank Wescott said. A long silence ensued. Eventually General Linsay spoke. “Why are we acting as if it’s all bad news? Our objective was to find out if we could guarantee that an Earth-sized system like TITAN could never get out of control permanently. The plan said that if we could stop it by deactivating its drones then we’d still be okay in the end. ========================== James P Hogan worked for Digital Equipment Corporation. He knew about computers. A lot of UNIX development before Linux happened there. -
This new term has popped up on YouTube. Sometimes it is Black people tired of BLACK People and other times it is White people tired of Black People. Of course I contributed my 2¢ ======================== This is So Funny! I was suffering from Black fatigue in the 60s. I was swapping science fiction books with White boys in high school while my mother was calling them "Something CRAZY!" When I was with IBM in the 80s a White man asked me why I wanted a computer at home. Around 1999 I was on Black Voices talking about Black people standardizing on Linux. Of course we can't talk about planned obsolescence in Cars! Have Economists heard of Depreciation? Physics & Technology do Not Care about AnyBody!!! *Black Man's Burden* (1961) by Mack Reynolds That is Free on the Internet! *Daemon & Freedom* (2009) by Daniel Suarez Oh shit! I forgot, reading is "Acting White!" Definitely Verboten!

Could AI go rogue like the computers in The Matrix

How much of this is White Men assuming that they are intelligent and Projecting how they think on the AI. Any true AI will be ALIEN How long will it take to understand what IT IS? It's context in relation to humans? Why would it care enough to wipe us out? -

Could a true intelligence exist without CURIOSITY? How would a curious alien intelligence function? How would it decide on GOALS? I am still not sure Artificial Intelligence is possible. I prefer Simulated Intelligence. A 64-bit CPU with 64 registers would mean 8 bytes or characters per register. 512 characters total in the BRAIN of the computer. The program and data may be huge in number of bytes but they can only be manipulated/changed via the CPU. Where is there any Comprehension? How would it even understand human beings? How would you explain Pain to a computer? Sometimes AI lies to you. Or makes up facts.

I have gotten different answers to the same question at different times. I usually use the information to determine where to look or nonAI sources. -

Trump did not have 3 years and 9 months to go and numerous Constitutional violations on record. -

I do not assume that EVERYBODY Aways thinks inside the box. It is possible that SOME high ranking officers do not. Milley told everyone that Trump was a Fascist 4 years ago. -

Their oath is to defend the Constitution against enemies Foreign and "Domestic". How many of Donny 2 Dolls Executive Orders have violated the Constitution in how many ways? -
Are you contradicting yourself? How is Science a "Belief System" if you say Facts and Belief are different? One problem is that people do not use the word 'SUSPECT' very much. Just because something happens to be true or false that does not necessarily mean that sufficient evidence can found to determine the condition. Scientific certainty means multiple tests always yield the same result. Facts, no Belief required. The problem is so many people certain about Belief.

At what point does the US military not doing something about Trump become "Dereliction of Duty"? -
Is Society Becoming Too Complex/Complicated?
umbrarchist replied to Pioneer1's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
My point was that LaMalfa is either wrong or lying. I don't care which. But the DIMocrats are stupid for talking about CO2 being 5%. So people in positions of political power don't know what the hell is going on. As the CO2 keeps going up everyone will be affected whether they pay attention or not. Of course if there is a methane tipping point in the Arctic tundra, then . . . -
How much did that drive the price up? How many homes of American Pope's are there?

Is Society Becoming Too Complex/Complicated?
umbrarchist replied to Pioneer1's topic in Culture, Race & Economy
Oblivious and indifferent does not mean unaffected. Is it possible figure out which side is less Dumb? Lamalfa is Repugnacan and the Democrats are guessing that CO2 is 5% or more of the atmosphere. Lamalfa is implying that CO2 is such a low % in the atmosphere that it doesn't matter. It has been 3,000,000 years since it was as high as it is today, 420 ppm, and back then it was coming down very, very slowly. Like maybe 1 ppm every 10,000 years. We are now pushing it up at 2 ppm per year. Everyone should know CO2 is < 1%. 99% of the atmosphere is Oxygen and Nitrogen. Most of the rest is argon. I had to look that up. But 3 million years ago the oceans were 100 meters higher. It would take hundreds of years to rise that high, but a 2 meter rise would stop tens of millions of people from being oblivious. But these ignoramuses cannot have an intelligent debate on the subject. . -

Does failing to figure out LIES create complications? . -
What kind of engineering? You didn't notice that you cannot find the Weight of ANYTHING? These words were not used in the entire report: Tons Pounds Kilogram Gram Lb. This entire story is about lots of MASS falling down. MASS that was held up for 28 years. A single concrete floor slab was 600 tons and there were 87 of them. I know that off the top of my head. Then they talk a temperatures a lot although there was nothing there to measure temperatures at the time. It is speculation. And then they used the phrase "may have" seventeen times. Great certainty there. Why not a simulation by now? Just raise the top 20 stories of the North Tower and drop them. 2 second fall, impact at 64 ft/sec or 43.6 mph. But again that would require distribution of mass information not even mentioned by MIT. The nice thing about simulation is that it can be repeated with different parameters. I must say that I regard the "conspiracy" bullshit as an insult since I have not said anything about it and do not give a damn. It is just your projection.

Maybe Leo(Bob) can introduce Chicago Deep Dish Pizza to Italy. Faulty assumption. There were only two Black pledges in the White fraternity. I heard the arguments were Epic.

How many people learn to HATE reading in school so they don't look? Since I started reading SF in 4th grade I might have been 8 or 9. But no one ever suggested it. To me they were all just books until then. My very first SF book mentioned Computers. It was used to navigate the starship. That book is also how I learned that the Sun was a star and that all of the stars are suns. And how far away stars were. Blew my mind, long before Star Trek. Then there is this: Harvard seasons private universe That is from 1988. I laughed my ass off when I saw it back then. What JOB needs for people to know what causes winter and summer? But it is so peculiar for "Educated" people to not know. It was never in any course I took, but you can't help but encounter "Orbital Mechanics" if you read enough science fiction. The sky never looked the same again.

Reading WHAT? I do not LIKE to read. It is like a negative 2 experience. So a book has to be a Positive 3 at least. That is the trouble with school. They force us to read Negative 2 books to get a grade. I read The Scarlet Letter and didn't give a damn about it. I refused to read Catcher in the Rye. A White boy so stupid he gets kicked out of multiple prep schools? To hell with him!
