  8. At a recent Black literary conference, a heterosexual Black women stated that to endorse lesbianism was the death of the our race. This positing reflects acute fright or a faulty reasoning, it ascribes false power to difference... This position supposes that if we don't eradicate lesbianism in the Black community, all Black women will become lesbians. It also presupposes that lesbians don't have children. Both suppositions are patently false. Audrey Lorde.

  11. The terms myth, folklore, legend, and fairy tale are often used interchangeably, leading to the misconception that they mean the same thing: fanciful tales. Although it's true that these terms may refer to bodies of writing that answer some of life's basic questions or present commentary on morality, each type presents a distinct reader experience. They've all stood the test of time, which speaks volumes about their ongoing hold on our imaginations. Myth A myth is a traditional story that may answer life's overarching questions, such as the origins of the world (the creation myth) or of a people. A myth can also be an attempt to explain mysteries, supernatural events, and cultural traditions. Sometimes sacred in nature, a myth can involve gods or other creatures. It presents reality in dramatic ways. Many cultures have their own versions of common myths that contain archetypal images and themes. One common myth that spans multiple cultures is that of a great flood. Myth criticism is used to analyze these threads in literature. A prominent name in myth criticism is that of literary critic, professor, and editor Northrop Frye. Folklore and Folktale Whereas myth has at its core the origins of a people and is often sacred, folklore is a collection of fictional tales about people or animals. Superstitions and unfounded beliefs are important elements in the folklore tradition. Both myths and folklore were originally circulated orally. Folklore and Folktale Whereas myth has at its core the origins of a people and is often sacred, folklore is a collection of fictional tales about people or animals. Superstitions and unfounded beliefs are important elements in the folklore tradition. Both myths and folklore were originally circulated orally. Folktales describe how a main character copes with the events of everyday life, and the tale may involve crisis or conflict. These stories may teach people how to cope with life (or dying) and also have themes common among cultures worldwide. The study of folklore is called folkloristics. Legend A legend is a story that's purported to be historical in nature but that is without substantiation. Prominent examples include King Arthur, Blackbeard, and Robin Hood. Where evidence of historical figures, such as King Richard, actually exists, figures such as King Arthur are legends due in large part to the many stories that have been created about them. Legend also refers to anything that inspires a body of stories or anything of lasting importance or fame. The story is handed down orally but continues to evolve with time. Much of early literature began as legend told and retold in epic poems that were passed down orally originally, then at some point written down. These include masterpieces such as the Greek Homeric Poems ("The Iliad" and "The Odyssey"), circa 800 BCE, to the French "Chanson de Roland," circa 1100 CE. Fairy Tale A fairy tale may involve fairies, giants, dragons, elves, goblins, dwarves, and other fanciful and fantastic forces. Although originally not written for children, in the most recent century, many old fairy tales have been "Disneyfied" to be less sinister and to appeal to kids. These stories have taken on lives of their own. In fact, many classic and contemporary books, such as "Cinderella," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Snow White," are based on fairy tales. But read the original Grimm brothers' fairy tales, for example, and you'll be surprised at the endings and how they differ from the versions that you may have grown up with. https://www.thoughtco.com/defining-terms-myth-folklore-legend-735039 Even cavemen grunted at a woman before dragging them away. 12. @Troy Brooklyn Tech and Syracuse University did a great job with educating you. How did you think genetics has no place in evolution. Oh wait that's the bit Charles Darwin missed. The other major factor, of course, was the fact that Darwin failed to arrive at an understanding of the mechanism of inheritance, despite realizing its importance and devoting a vast effort to assembling evidence in his Variation of Animals and Plants Under Domestication (Darwin 1868). Unfortunately, he was unaware of Mendel's work, despite its publication 2 years earlier (Mendel 1866). Mendel's work has now, of course, permanently revolutionized our understanding of heredity, and his tragic failure to obtain recognition in his lifetime is a well-known story. It is less well known that Mendel was well aware of the importance for evolution of understanding genetics: Gregor Mendel is also important in statistics. So I'll paraphrase that Darwin's Theory of Evolution was incomplete because he didn't know how to interpret his data. And it didn't take genetics into account. Congratulations Troy you are wrong on three counts. I don't think it is possible to be more wrong. Thanks i have learned something about science and human nature.
  13. @Troy do you know who Francis Galton is. Second question is genetics important in the theory of evolution. Is the field of genetics devoid of mathematics? If you cant answer those questions correctly you are missing some information. But you will find some excuse nit ti answer the question although you will respond. Evolution is change in the heritable characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. http://www.genetics.org/content/183/3/757 Darwin's theory of natural selection lacked an adequate account of inheritance, making it logically incomplete. We review the interaction between evolution and genetics, showing how, unlike Mendel, Darwin's lack of a model of the mechanism of inheritance left him unable to interpret his own data that showed Mendelian ratios, even though he shared with Mendel a more mathematical and probabilistic outlook than most biologists of his time http://www.genetics.org/content/183/3/757 Soon after publication of Charles Darwin's Origin of Species, Francis Galton undertook studies of how various traits might be transmitted from parent to offspring... Galton, in his personal correspondence with Darwin, came close to this conception, but never proceeded to a testable formulation. http://www.genomenewsnetwork.org/resources/timeline/1876_Galton.php
  14. Seriously, you have been arguing with Chevdove and you still can't answer this I have not read all of the posts in this thread. Since i didn't have an opinion. Yet you are still asking me for my opinion on a topic I haven't followed.

  20. Perhaps someone else can explain the question you are evading? Or I can assume the question was too complicated for a yes or no answer from Troy. Happy New Year.
