The Forums Are Back! (but they need some work...)

Featured Replies

There are a bunch of thing I need to work through, but the most important thing is that one.

Resetting your password does not work yet (did it ever?). I hope to have that working sometime this evening.

If you can login you are free to use the forum. After I get the password reset working I'm begin making some esthetic changes.

Fun facts:

  • We have been using this software since Sunday, September 13, 2009!

  • The last time I upgraded to a new server was in 2019 and the forum was down for 10 days (at least)!

The new look is fantastic.

@Troy ...thanks again for everything you do & the sweat equity you pour into the site.😎

Thanks, man. This whole website upgrade has been a challenge, but things will be much better overall.

Should I Feature first post?

Basically featuring the first post by showing it at the top of every page in the topic? Sometimes on multipage conversation who forget the what the original point of the conversation was supposed to be. Maybe this will keep conversation on track -- maybe it does not matter.

I don't believe it will matter in keeping conversation on track.😁😎

I was able to successfully reset my password, so the site's basic functionality has been restored 😊

I don't know how I'm able to post here, having not done the required procedure, but I'm not complaining.😛

Our login credentials work fine for the AALBC forum.

I've noticed the other part of AALBC wanted me to sign-up (my regular login didn't work).😎

OK I'm glad the regular logins work-- maybe that is for new accounts. I'll update my post.

@ProfD There are some features of the main part of AALBC that require a login like following an author or adding a book to you bookshelf. My goal was to have a single login but to get over that tech hurdle is not something I'm not keen or starting right now.

Gotcha. No worries. I'm perfectly fine as long as my login works here.👍🏿😎

Yes I just hit the link. No login required

Thank you, I appreciate your labour of love.

Since the forum have been restored only @Delano , @ProfD , @aka Contrarian , @richardmurray, @Troy have posted. I just noticed if you mouse over the name, you see a preview of the profile.

Many of the other posters @Mel Hopkins , @frankster , @Pioneer1 , @Chevdove , @umbrarchist ; @harry brown , @Milton have yet to return.

I know I have to make the forums landing page less confusing and more appealing. I doubt think I would post here looking at the main page:: https://aalbc.com/tc/ I struggled trying to get the forum back up I got tired of looking at 🥺it but I really need to do something with that main page and cracking on attracting more participants.

In the past 7 days despite the outages traffic from search is slightly up 2% according Goolge's Search Console with the most popular page in search results being: THE 100 BEST BLACK MOVIES (EVER) - Culture, Race & Economy - African American Literature Book Club

@Troy I didn't think there was anything wrong with the old format. The new way is very .. "busy". You have to go through a whole process just to discern what's current.

Also, I uploaded my picture thinking it would be a tiny little image replacing the initial "A" , it didnt do this. Instead, my profile provided a lot more info about me than I preferred to have known.

Sometimes we should all just leave well enough alone. 😜

I hear you but unfortunately that is impossible, or rather it bad in the longer term. Software becomes outdated, security flaws emerge, and as application evolve the older system are no longer supported, so upgrading become necessary and the most sensible thing to do.

There are users of this software who are using older versions and are now griping because these older versions are no longer being supported by the vendor. But the vendor has no choice because the software is dependent on versions of scripting languages that are no longer supported.

Does this link help you find what is current in this forum: It what I updated the forum link on the main website to link to: https://aalbc.com/tc/forum/5-culture-race-economy/ it shows the posts in this forum in descending order (latest to the oldest)

BTW, there are other universes where I did not upgrade. You can always go to one of those 😉

@Troy lol

My opinion about the new format calls for the least concern on your part. As I previously said, I'm the past not the future.

My remarks should've been automatically deleted by the omnipotent Chess Master who is playing the game were are pawns in.

It's all good. 😬
