  1. @Pioneer1, yeah mayne, most office work is done with a computer and a telephone. A laptop can go anywhere. Before the pandemic, many employers were already allowing their employees to work from home a few days per week. Once things went into a pseudo-lockdown mode, it was easy to tell those folks and others to stay home. The work from home (telework) arrangement is mutually beneficial to employers and employees. In addition to the things mentioned above, a few more: 1) employers will rethink their leased space requirements 2) less energy usage in office buildings 3) employees less worry about childcare 4) less traffic congestion 5) employees actually use less sick days That's just off the top of my head. But, the computer is the invention that has changed the way we work and play. About 20 years ago, I knew more folks would be working from home or remotely. 😎
  2. In another thread Mzuri wrote: Part of a larger discussion about so much of the workforce is now working from home instead of in an office or building in a more professional setting. Many see this becoming the "new normal" for the U.S. workforce and my initial reaction to this was one of disdain. My response was: Besides this worker-employer relationship being so informal, ghetto, and unprofessional....at the end of the day CORPORATE is the benefactor because they no longer have to provide office space or stationary for their employees and can save BILLIONS of dollars. But how much do the employees get out of this deal? But after thinking about it a little while..... I wonder would it be better for most employees TOO in the long run? -Save money on gas -Save money on buying professional clothes for work -Less conflict with co-workers working in close spaces with eachother -Less incidents of racism and sexism. -More time to take care of personal needs -Even better for those with disabilities who can do their jobs easier at home. Perhaps it WOULD actually be better working from home not just for the employer but for the employee too!
  3. Has anyone accused you of talking to yourself?
  4. Mzuri & ProfD I was already leaning towards it being BETTER for the employees of most corporate jobs if they worked from home, but the examples you two provided help push me further in that direction....lol. Do you know what I kept thinking about during the discussion of working from home? Will Smith and that character he played in Pursuit of Happyness. That movie was so good I decided to go out and buy the BOOK by Chris Gardner himself. And as usual the book is much better than the movie. But I kept thinking about Mr.Garnder and how much easier things would have been for HIM if he had a laptop or just access to a computer and didn't have to rush around looking for a place to keep his baby while getting showered and dressed to go work in an office.
  5. Mzuri You're right most of our people don't think independently. I misspoke on that one. I meant to say INDIVIDUALLY. I meant we don't think in terms of being united with EACHOTHER. We don't think collectively enough. We think about our own individual needs too much and not enough about the needs of the collective. Which would actually serve our individual needs in the long run.
  6. Stating the obvious, humanity needs both concrete and abstract thinkers. Some folks can see the big picture (concepts) while it takes others to bring it to fruition (produce). That's how we survive and thrive.😎
  7. ************************************************************************************ @Pioneer1 and @ProfD Working or running a business from home has lots of benefits. The main thing that people don't consider is that IT COSTS MONEY TO GO TO WORK. When most people get ready to retire, the thought of living on less income scares them, but they don't think about how much they spend going to work every day. As you mentioned there are clothing expenses, dry cleaning, transportation, automobile expenses, car insurance, lunches and other meals, snacks, drinks, incidental expenses, contributions to office funds, coffee funds, gift funds, etc. You know how it is, every time you turn around you're spending money on something. Most of those expenses are eliminated when you work from home. One thing that people don't think of is that you can reduce your car insurance costs if you don't drive your car on a daily basis. You need to call your agent and let them know your driving habits have changed and you can often get a reduction on your insurance rates. Other expenses will increase, for example your electric bill will be higher since you'll probably have the TV and other electronics running throughout the day, and you will use more of the other items around your house like hand soap. But when you eat or drink something out of your refrigerator, it is cheaper than buying something while you are out of the house. Making your own schedule, taking breaks when you need to, eating when you're hungry, taking a nap, caring for your family, and just being in your own home is much better than being out there in the rat race. And earning income while you're doing your own thing, plus the additional benefit of having some peace of mind is priceless. ************************************************************************************
  8. You're absolutely right because the PAC/Super PAC control who runs for political office. Finance folks who are willing to fight for the agenda.😎
  9. Recently, archaeologists have found in a cave the skeleton remains of one of the earliest inhabitants of England(maybe Europe in general). He is called Cheddar Man because his remains were found in Gough's Cave in Somerset's Cheddar Gorge. It turns out the man had dark skin, curly hair, and blue eyes. I know a lot of white people must really be pissed off about this discovery because, if it is true, the earliest prehistoric Europeans did not have white skin, However, his features are not Africoid and he does have blue eyes. Cheddar Man looks more like he is closely related to the Australoid or Veddoid branch of dark skinned people than the African race,
  10. This country is ripe for a new political party because the two dog race has run its course. Unfortunately, it takes a sh8tload of money to even get in the game. 😎
  11. ************************************************************************************ @Pioneer1 We do NOT think independently, if we did we wouldn't have dopey Joe Biden in the White House, with all the mess that he has caused our nation and our community. People were so happy to get rid of Trump, saying silly things like how they would gladly pay more taxes just to get someone else. Well, now we have that someone else and our lives are all messed up because of it. We have the higher taxes, inflation, higher crime, food shortages, and a whole bunch of other mess we have not had in our lifetime until Obama's sidekick came along to do what he does best - F*ck everything up. Then there's that cackling hen Vice President of his, she seems to think every awful or serious issue is something to laugh about. She's supposedly Black but have you seen her doing anything for the Black community? What was the point of demanding he have a Black VP when she wasn't going to do anything for us anyway. Black people are so friggen gullible. We are the main ones to suffer when a gazillion border jumping immigrants enter our nation and start doing the work that we used to do, but for less pay than what we were scraping by with before. I disagree with having our own communities because this will only attract a bunch of losers who will wait to see what others are going to do. We need to blend into the communities that we are already in and do the best we can for ourselves. Our community as a whole needs to smarten up, and get our priorities in order. ************************************************************************************
  12. When you said "Cheddar Man" I thought you were talking about a new Rapper at first, lol. I started not to even bother clicking on to the thread. I'm not surprised at the findings. It must be understood that Black people are the Original people ALL OVER the planet...not just Africa or Asia or even Europe. We're the Original people in the Americas as well when you go back far enough. The people with Black skin and straight/wavy hair and narrow features.....similar to those called Dravidian in India today...are the Original people of the planet. Other races came from them.....including the African race.
  13. So..... No talk of Universal Healthcare. No talk of free college tuition. No talk of bringing back good paying low skilled jobs with great benefits That type of talk isn't even on the TABLE anymore for most Democrat politicians. Just put them back in office....not so they can turn us in a NEW direction...but just SLOW DOWN in the fascist direction the Republicans are trying to take us.
  14. Black churches need to be more like the Nation of Islam and SEARCH everyone coming through their doors to ensure the safety of not just the pastors and the staff, but also all of those who attend. You never hear of events like this happening at a Nation of Islam temple. They catch it before it comes through the door.

Circa 1997 I told a friend time will speed up in the future . I had no further details or explanation. I believe time or rather the passage of time has quickened. I sense pervasive apprehension , fear and perhaps desperation. There appears to be cracks in the system that are both existential and mundane. I am not certain which of the following are most pernicious : self interest ; incompetence ; ignorance or lack of awareness . Jupiter has different titles and qualities : Guru ; Divine Retribution for hubris; understanding and expansion. I will provide you a week long tasting menu of Jupiter's qualities .
