  1. Well, I haven't been around that long but I've thoroughly enjoyed your contributions here. I've read through some of the archives too. Whenever the sun decides to set in our lives, I'm grateful to have been able to meet, converse and laugh with you in the virtual world.🤗😎
  2. As somebody who has been contributing to this forum since the 1990s, I do think about my "legacy" here since I am in the twilight of my years, doing good to wake up every morning. and do have serious doubts about making it to my 90th birthday in August. but, know that I've led a full life and as ready as I'll ever been to pass on. First and foremost I think about the good ol days when there was a large crew of contributors, - a real cast of characters! I miss those fun days, and all my "frienemies", most of whom have moved on and some of whom I am still in contact with on FaceBook. Once and a while, I skim through the archives and come across a lot of posts I have absolutely no recollection of having written. But there is a consistency to my vibe. I've always been a contrarian, challenging the opinions of others. Always an exponent of the "ad hominem" attacks which, to this day, are a tactic I defend on the grounds that making unflattering comments about an adversary is permissible if the shoe fits and the insult advances the point I am trying to make. Whatever. i don't imagine i have made that great of an impact on this board. Unless you get points for longevity. C'est la Vie. When it comes to AALBC's founder and monitor, however, Troy Johnson, got better with age. i salute you ol buddy,
  3. I was reviewing the discussion forum archives (2005 to 2010) and discovered this post from almost 18 years ago: “Makes you want to run out and kill someone” Basically, the post was about someone sharing information on a book of lynching photos, Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America. I did not want to see the book and never even considered sharing it. I dismissed it as just cruelty porn The responders to my post disagreed with me saying it was important that this information be shared. I have clearly changed my position on this subject. I have (just now) added the book to the site. I guess I have learned a lot The YouTube video shows the photo from the book (I plan to order a copy). The video can't be embedded because there is an age restriction. (This is a trigger Warning! viewer discretion advised: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRnToazuDaQ) The book can, of course, be purchased on Amazon. I linked to Amazon in the forum post. The link still works. To Amazon's credit, they have not broken a product link still they have started. Barnes and Noble has broken product links multiple times, and this is one of many reasons Amazon took over dominance of online book sales when B&N was the market leader. But Amazon is so freaking greedy they have set it up so they people can purchase a tee shirt featuring the image of a person being strung up! Seems like Amazon would be smarter about this, but when making money is your number one priority sensitivity is of little concern.
  4. OK thanks to the internet Archives I should be able to restore the old Thumper's Corner Forums Archives which broke recently because the website for the forum no longer supports CGI scripts, so the program displaying the forum links does not work. Fortunately, the forum posts are text files. I have saved all of these I just need to remap all of the hyperlinks to the locations where the reside now: Original Location (where CGI is broken, so the forum links do not display) http://www.thumperscorner.com/cgi/discus/discus.cgi?pg=topics Internet Archive (to the rescue) http://web.archive.org/web/20160207063436/http://www.thumperscorner.com:80/cgi/discus/discus.cgi?pg=topics So now I have the links to the files. I just need to remap all of the hyperlinks for 123,567 posts in 9,583 conversations. Hopefully, it will be as easy as a global find and replace. 5. i am a i was always a fan of the Pointer sisters. They had their own unique style!
  6. These Japanese dancers doing James Brown really blow me away! Asian soul!
  7. @Chevdove, thanks for the excellent identification and background on the Pointer Sisters.👍🏿 The Pointer Sisters thrived in the 1970s which was a great time for Black music and arguably its best decade. There were so many groups, bands, artists and musicians. The downside to the 1970s music scene was alcohol and drug use was rampant. No surprise the sisters had their struggles. Amazing to live through and talk about it. Here is my favorite Pointer Sisters song. It was written and produced by the late great, legendary Allen Toussaint from New Orleans. I'm grateful the best of Black music has been recorded. Even when the artists are no longer relevant musically and/or with us on this side of glory, we still have their music.😎
  8. @Chevdove @Troy @ProfD great comment all to Troy ... yes, I will not go on a rant about how the usa internet was designed poorly in the first place. I really think people don't see how the internet's design and buildup over the years including the commonly called cloud infrastructure, is the problem to many issues like this. but, again, yes, it is up to the individual today. That is the simple truth and individual accountability is the term of the times. IT saves big firms lawsuits or liabilities and it allows individuals to lose all or be judged as the cause to all that is negative. I do think the internet of the future that will break away from the usa modeled one will have as one of its pillars a far more efficient design structure ,alongside a simple communal push by people to exist on the internet with less robustness.
