  1. I rarely buy "black" books and when I do they are old books...usually out of print books. I usually learn about new titles through articles that I read . That's usually-my impetus to purchase the book. I buy based on benefits - not word of mouth. If the author or the publisher isn't selling the book, I then go straight to an online retailer. The online retailer of choice is usually amazon - unless I have a Barnes & Noble gift card. If I were to change the way I buy books , it would be based on a change in the marketplace. As an independent author, publisher and bookseller - I've decided not to sell my books through amazon. I don't see the benefit. I removed my debut novel from amazon - (and all online retailers) and my soon to be released book "So, You Want to Be A Flight Attendant" will only be available through me. I haven't decided if I'm going to release it through Lulu yet... So if anyone should boycott Amazon it should be the independent author/publishers. Buying direct from independent publisher will have a greater impact their bottom-line that it will Amazon.

  2. Troy You took the words right out of my mouth. I was just about to post that the NAACP is becoming increasingly irrelevant, precisely BECAUSE of attention getting "antics" like this and the one they did a few months ago when they "advised" Black people to be careful when in the state of Missouri. I can't really bash any group willing to sound alarms, but like you said before.....this is almost like crying wolf. It's hard for people to take you seriously when you put out bulletins like this without any plans to actually If the NAACP want to alert people of a REAL threat......... If the NAACP wants an issue to REALLY investigate and bring attention to...... They should focus on the FBI memo a few years ago that clearly states that White supremacists have started to infiltrate various law enforcement agencies. When the memo was first made known they should have pounced on it and stayed on it until the Obama Administration with it's Black Attorney Generals took affirmative action to investigate and purge these clowns out of the system. But where were they? Hell, they can STILL place demands on the current Administration, though I don't have too much confidence in the matter being properly addressed with Sessions in office.

  3. I didn't know that Cynique. However it is not surprising. Make American Great is an honest statement by Trump. He wants to return to the time that only land owning WASP could vote. The USA is like the Doctor Jeckyl.

  4. The New York Post reported yesterday; "Colin Kaepernick has inked a book deal worth just over $1 million with Random House imprint One World, Page Six has exclusively learned. One World’s headed by book world superstar Chris Jackson, who also publishes Jay-Z and Ta-Nehisi Coates. He launched One World last year." One World was founded in 1992 and was on the leading edge of imprints created to meet the demand of books dedicated to African Americans; a period which only lasted about a decade. One World has been relaunched, and Chris Jackson has been named Publisher and editor-in-chief of One World, which arguably makes him the most powerful Black man in mainstream publishing. It will be interesting to see how this book sells. It will probably make the NY TImes Bestsellers list because the publisher has the wherewithal to make that happen given the subject, but to earning out a million dollar advance will be a challenge. But even if the book does not earn out One World can still make a tidy sum. But time will tell. Maybe Chris can bring another dimension to the story; Colin being blacklisted from the NFL, how 45 changed the narrative, and how the coverage of football games has steered completely away from the National Anthem. Well if One World profits from this particular book, at least two Black men will benefit from Colin's protest.
